Hello Andrew. I don't think I've commented before, but I definitely want to let you know that I thoroughly enjoy your visits. Thank you for reminding everyone that it is ok to not be ok. Too many false and unrealistic expectations are either thrust upon us, or we put them on ourselves. We need a reminder that we do need to take care of ourselves and not just everyone else. The sweater is lovely and will be much appreciated I'm sure. I look forward to seeing you next time. Take best care.

Good to see you again. The jumper for Mrs Clarke is looking great. I am hoping to make a similar style of jumper when our Aussie winter comes around. I have a few patterns to choose from. We have Queen and King size beds here and also recently I came across a King Single which we used to call a three quarter bed. Great news about the new ferry - that will make access to the mainland much more reliable. We don't have the cold dark winter gloom here but we have wet seasons (locally we call it Mould Season) which is hot and humid and causes what we call cabin fever. Much the same effect I think. I tend to go downhill when the sun ceases to shine and struggle to stay cheerful. Important to reach out at such times. 😀💛 Thanks for sharing. Cheers.

Watching your Extra Stich videos is to me like sitting down with a good friend knitting and catching up with what is going on in their life. I really enjoy it. That sweater is going to make a lovely Christmas gift for your wife. Here in the States we don't have a name for theday after Christmas, but since I work in retail I call itthe first day of unwanted gift return season. That is one thing that will not happen to the sweater you are working on.

Hi Andrew: so lovely to see your podcast again. The sweater you are making for Mrs. C. is lovely - she is very lucky. Decades ago, a friend of my daughter came to play with my daughter: the friend had a beautiful Fair Isle sweater on and I complimented her on her sweater. I said "did your Mom make that for you?" and she said "No, my Dad made it - he is the one who does the knitting." I was so impressed!! And now, here you are, also making beautiful knits for your family. BRAVO.

Hello again Andrew, from the woods of Muskoka, Ontario, Canada... We also call Dec. 26th boxing day, and also have queenly and kingly bed sizes. I love your knitty chats, your work is lovely and that jumper for Mrs. C will be so nice to wear. I just finished a cardigan for me, knit in some lovely libra (merino-silk) yarn I spun last winter; it is so soft and warm there is no need to turn up the heater. I have two fleece washed and ready to card and spin, my next project, but on my needles is a very soft scarf for my daughter of Drops brushed Alpaca Silk. I have plans to knit my youngest grandson a sweater from some yarn I dyed with plants from my dye garden, and hope to start another sweater for my spouse. Once the gardens were put to bed, I finished knitting the last sleeve on a twisted rib knit sweater I started last March, a long knit that went on forever. I look forward to seeing your next projects and wish you and family well with the move to the new home.

The jumper for Mrs looks great. You've almost reached the finish line 👏 I'm crocheting a blanket for my 2 1/2 year old great nephew. I haven't been able to start it for about 2 years due to arthritis in my hands sidelining me. Recently tried again and although I've needed a break several times and have to limit how long I work on it at a time, I'm making progress and it feels good. So glad you're seeing construction projects completed at your new home. Your patience will be rewarded as you see the end approaching. Courie in (sp?) as winter comes and enjoy some cozy quiet time.

Boxing Day in the Netherlands is called tweede kerstdag, second christmasday. Still we are in need of more days.. so 27th is sometimes called third christmas day, not an official holiday, the first you see family, the second the family of the spouse and the third you spent with friends. Hoping your actual move goes smoothly. Thank you for giving me a break this evening.

I love the time "between the years"! The 26th of Dec. in Austria is called "Stefanitag" (You know St. Stephen, the Märtyrer). The pullover for Your wife is so beautiful! Happy Advent and have a good time!! Do You have homeless people in Your Space? In Vienna we have a lot. In this cold and dark time in winter we have "Wärmestuben" where people can sit in a warm room, drinking tea and eating something, playing perhaps or reading newspapers and chatting of course. And even there is not the best smell: nobody must be alone during this time of the year....

Hiya Andrew! Thank you for this Extra Stitch catch up video. Greetings from chilly SW OK. We have sunshine and blue sky today with cold air growing colder (yay). The jumper for Mrs. Clark looks fabulous and she'll be wearing it often, I reckon. I'm knitting a shlanket for the American Cancer Society's Knit and Fundraise November, and the other night I started a shawl to work on when I'm around people because the shlanket pattern is mosaic and getting a wee bit complicated to knit when I'm not alone. So, two knit wips, and a counted cross-stitch on the go to keep me out of mischief. lol Have a happy Christmas and may the move be uneventful when the new abode is ready!
@jilliankonig27595 күн бұрын
Good to see you again! As for Mrs. Clark's sweater, my grandmother, who was a prolific knitter and seamstress used to say "it will never be noticed on a galloping horse" - a phrase I'm sure she didn't originate. The new ferry will make a tremendous difference to you. We had a bridge that was destroyed by a container ship that drifted into one of the supports in Baltimore, and it caused some loss of life, as well as changing traffic all over the region because of people needing to find new routes to cross the Patapsco River in Baltimore. Good luck with the piece by piece move!
@albanachknitter5 күн бұрын
Yes, that was reported on the news here. Sad accident, and , of course, ongoing challenges for all. Thanks for the galloping horse phrase...someone said something similar above but I didn't quite know what she meant...I'm a bit slow today! lol

Great to sit and knit with you for a bit! Also exciting news about the new ferry! Hopefully it can run during some conditions when the smaller ones could not. I always have many WIPs and that's okay--but I am happy that I have several that are all nearing the finish line and by the end of this video, I am ready to bind of a hem of "Mabel's Sweater" a pattern by Joji Locatelli; fingering weight on small needles and you can guess how that progress has been! I am also on the last sleeve of a sweater I planned to cast on for Thanksgiving (this Thursday in the US), but cast on a week and a half ago somehow...and some socks. I have my candles out and my winter themed quilts and am ready for hygge for sure! Thanks for sharing your time, and the encouragement regarding the winter blues. Happy knitting!

Lovely to see you today. As Thursday (Nov 28th) is Thanksgiving here in the US, this house is well into preparing copious amounts of carbohydrates to warm our hearts and bodies.---you just have to have pumpkin pie, and fruit pie, and cobblers, and at least one sweet potato dish, and at least one bowl of mashed potatoes and gravy, and yeast dinner rolls, and green beans topped with crunchy buttery salty bread crumbs and bacon and fried onions, and broccoli with rice and cheese, and of course turkey and stuffing, and cranberries. So, I haven't been knitting that much this week, but I started the Tin Can knits Moraine sweater, except the instructions didn't make any sense to me, so I'm knitting it flat and pieced, because I've never done that before, and I'm still working on the Riverfall pullover, which I'm beginning to think will be a 10 year project. but I also have plans for 2 more Ranunculus sweaters, and a feather and fan tunic sweater. Anyway, one of the things I've been grateful for this year is your podcast, so thank you, stay safe and well.

We call December 26th “second Christmasday” in the Netherlands. We also have a matching Second Easterday and Second Pentecostday, all bank holidays. No Third Days unfortunately, let alone a full octave or twelve days :) The sweater for Mrs. C looks beautiful! I just finished a sweater that took me nine months. It needs to be blocked, but since it’s on me and will not be coming off I’m not sure how I will manage it 😅

Good to see and hear you Andrew. Sorry you haven’t been well, take care of yourself, especially at this time of year. Mrs C's sweater is looking great, well done. Would she be willing to have her photo taken wearing her gift? Enjoy your time at Sannox, lovely location for Christmas and all the best on your move.

Dec. 26 is just called “the day after Christmas” here in the US. Kind of boring, huh?😅 Bed sizes here can go up to a California King; but one of my kids recently told me they saw an ad for an Alaska King…surely the biggest bed anyone could possibly need! 😊

Yeah, kinda boring lol. You should start a tradition! Cool with the beds though...what's a small one?

@@albanachknitter small sizes are called "twin", then Full then Quenn

@ we likely call 'twin' a single bed, and a 'full' a double.

@@albanachknitter love how you actually know what they mean. I just have 70 to 100 cm wide one person. 120 to 140 cm wide two persons but only if you love eachother and lie still while sleeping. 160 to 180 cm two persons and a toddler in the middle.😅anything wider than 180, familybed, meant for daily cosleeping.

Have you heard about the innocent big knit? People knit or crochet tiny hats, donate them to the innocent smoothie company and then they put them on their bottles and donate to Age Uk. It's a really fun way to experiment with knitting and uses up scraps and of course cheers people up and benefits charity

Hi Andrew, I enjoy your blogs and your update and your wonderful knitting. I’ve knit hundreds of socks and mitts and beanies. However, I would like to try a sweater this year. Do you think the jumper you’re making Mrs. C would be a good one for me to start at?😊
@albanachknitter11 сағат бұрын
Do you have much experience with colour work? That's the main challenging bit in this jumper. For a first jumper I'd recommend either the Monday Sweater by Petit Knit or the Flax sweater by TinCan Knit. 🧶

Here in the US, we call Dec 26th Dec 26th. 😊. What does Boxing Day mean?
@albanachknitter2 күн бұрын
It was a day when domestic servants were given a gift box from their employers in large houses, or to those in need. 2nd day of Christmas.
@creationbay9 сағат бұрын
@@kimwachter2493 Boxing Day is called that because it’s traditionally the day for packing up Christmas decorations and tidying up the house. However, in Canada where I now live, it has extended to January 6/7th due to the orthodox calendar and the large number of immigrants of Ukrainian heritage. They celebrate Christmas by craftily buying their Christmas gifts in the Christmas sales on Boxing Day.

As said above, in the US there isn’t a name for the 26th. But a lot of people use it as the day to return/exchange gifts they don’t like that they received. So a lot of people in shops (also for after Christmas sales). Sad way to finish celebrating Christ’s birthday.
@albanachknitter5 күн бұрын
I try to avoid shops most days, but ESPECIALLY on Boxing Day lol
