I feel that Mark Yerkes has worked hard on the flow and the script. This is very informative, without being pedantic or boring. A wide compilation of material, put together effectively.

Are Albanian Christians mainly Catholic or Greek Orthodox?

They are mainly Muslim but with a Catholic minority.. Thanks for the question.

Catholic in the North, Orthodox in the south.

All Albanians were Orthodox until the 13th century, when the Ghegs - the northern Albanians - converted to Catholicism, thinking that would enable them to more effectively resist the Serbs. Albania's population has throughout the '70's & '80's been around 70% Muslim, 20% Orthodox, & 10% Catholic. I don't know what the more recent numbers look like.

Dogma can have religious or secular purposes; the presence of dogma and supporting doctrine defining matters of authority and morality does not in and of itself establish a belief system as a religion, though more often than not it replaces an institutional religion shorn of its supernatural/superstitional aspects. Atheism mean a philosophy without gods and as such can be a substitution for theism, ie religion, but not a religion supplanting another religion.

I believe I understand your point, Timothy. I just see things a little differently in that there is always "a god". It may not be a statue or figure to which we give allegiance, but there is always a god even in secular philosophy that denies God's existence. The State can become the object of worship. Socialism can become god. A dictator can become god, as took place in Albania. Money/wealth/sex/power can become our god. The Bible says that greed is idolatry (Colossians 3:5). Anything we put in place of the true God becomes the god of our personal religion, including ourselves and including philosophy. Colossians 2:8 says "See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ." I should add for a little perspective, In Albania 58.69% are Muslims, 10.02% are Roman Catholics and 6.75% are Eastern Orthodox. The narrator completely ignored the large Muslim population this misleading you to think Albania is a predominately Christian country. Today Albania is a testament of Religious tolerance and coexistence. So Mr. Yerkes just could not even bring himself to say that Albania is mainly Muslim.
