Very nice video, but Vinho Verde is the name of the region in Portugal that also produce Alvarinho grapes. And more, not always it will be fizzy. In there, especially in Monção e Melgaço sub region you can find amazing white wines, made from Alvarinho, Trajadura and Arinto variety, that could be on that fizzy style or barrel, some of them very age worthy! 🍷

For me the best Albariños that you tasted are from Fillaboa and Bodegas Gránbazan (for aged Albariños). Martin Codax produces too much wine and their quality has reduced drastically over the past 10 years. There is one grape that is an autonomus grape from Spain, Godello that produces some of the best white wines in Spain (if not the world). Gdellos are produced in three areas: Valldeorras and Monterrei (Galicia), and Bierzo (Leon across the border from Galicia). My favorite Godellos are from Valdeorras which are harvested by hand (or with mules) due to the slanted slate slopes down to the Rio Mariñan. Godellos from Valdeorras are complex, long, and with a subdued minerality. I compare these wines to Chablis with their structure and complexity. The Godellos from Monterrei are produced on flat land and are less complex and simpler wines. The Godellos from Bierz are fruit driven and dense and are similar to a heavy California Chardonnay in structure. Keep up your videos, I have lived in Spain for the past 35 years and have been very fortunate in seeing the evolution of Spanish wines over the past decades. Salud, Mark

what it is incredible is looking at how Martin Codax show off that they support more than 300 growers but not disclaiming that most of them have been paid after three years since the grapes were sold. Is that a sustainable relationship with growers? I don't think so. Stop drinking mass produced and industrialised Albariño and look for the real albariños out there, the ones that speak honestly about terroir made by small artisans!
