Portuguese wine rocks. I am a huge port fan. Drink it quite often, but Vinho Verde is a massive go to for me.. white or rose. Did a Portuguese tasting meal a few weeks ago 6 courses. Only Portuguese wines and dishes. The best pairing was the lingusia soup with the Duorum red. Ended with a vintage Quinta do Noval….

My wife and I loved this show. The reveal about the shape of the Mateus bottle was fascinating. As a college student in the early 1960's , Mateus was a must purchase if you wanted to impress a girl with your wine sophistication. Plus , they made great candle holders. The other Portuguese wine at that level was Lancer's. We were in Portugal last March and at a wine tasting at Jose Maria De Fonseca , we were surprised to see that they still make a variety of Lancer's. Coincidentally , an empty Lancer's bottle also made a great candle holder. Watching you made us realize how much we loved Portugal and we're planning a return.

Portugal has developed enormously in 20-30 years. When I visited the country in the nineties for the first time the food in most places was mediocre and the red wines were often quite harsh and - dare I say - a tad rustic. Some Dão's I took (magnums) needed 20 years to be drinkable. But today it's one of the most interesting European countries for wine-addicts, thanks to their own grape-varities, the clever blending and the hands of skilled winemakers. I recently bought some boxes with Alentejo-wines, absolute bargains for the quality they offer. A few leading winemakers are Australians. Also the Portugese cuisine has made huge steps forwards. Lovely country with beautiful nature and most inviting people. Now I want to visit it again. )

Congratulations, outstanding work. A breath of fresh air. You have a new subscriber. Just a (intended as constructive) remark: aim to worldwide audiences, do not let Nerd Labs or any other segments show Farenheit only, as in the wine fridge and the optimal wine temperatures. I can understand that on a graphics point of view it is easier and efficient to get a big 55 "inside" the fridge but that is impactful only for USA audience. You have great communication skills and a chance to capture the imagination of younger generations. You have the potential to be for wine what Carl Sagan was to science and younger generations worldwide. I'm dead serious. You guys (all team) are that good. Keep up the excellent work!

Regarding the wines, great job. But regarding the place to visit in Minho such a bad selection. The heart of the vinho verde is the alto minho so you should have gone to viana do castelo, ponte de lima or places like that, never braga. Or if you want to go to the best and most beautiful city in the region which is also the craddle of Portugal and which is also a great place to try vinho verde you should have gone to Guimarães. Best coffee made with Italian machines ☺️😂 Ask them how they call the short coffe/espresso regionally in Porto or Lisbon one was Cimbalino from the Cimbali machines ahah I lived in PORTUGAL for one year and it was the place where I felt more similarity to Italy as Italian, especially to the Italy I lived and loved in the 90’. I think it’s one my favorite countries but don’t think people where most of the time so welcoming especially in the north but you get use to that. People have very close mind

Not very welcoming, particularly in the north. Well, that is your experience. Opposite to what most people usually say about Portuguese people. Closed mind? …
@stefanocunietti5643 Жыл бұрын
@@lsvmuk That's my idea. You can take it or not, I'm free to express my opinion right? I think I was long enough to be able to say what I saw. Of course if one goes for tourism or for work, if they welcome someone who gives them visibility they are always welcoming to everyone in all places of the world. But nobody who lived there for a long time (French, Spanish, German, Italian, Chinese, etc.) told me that the Portuguese are a welcoming people. You just get used to their way of doing things. Before speak travel and go to see a little outside. Once we were three people in a restaurant in Porto we were three people and we went in together with another couple. There were only two tables with two chairs each. The couple sat down and we too, the waiter went to get another chair. But when another one came he said the chair couldn't stay there and made us get up and leave. The couple (they were British) said we could join their table, an argument eventually ensued and we all left. Then I have often seen houses rented out with rooms without windows and without even making it clear that they didn't have them because now in almost all places in Europe it is normal to have a window in the room, indeed it is illegal not to have one. If you pointed it out, you were the weird one, not them. And it wasn't once, it was the norm. And I could do so many other examples.
@lsvmuk Жыл бұрын
@@stefanocunietti5643 Of course, you are entitled to have your opinion. We have not yet been occupied by Russia. For the same reason, I am entitled to have an opinion about your opinion. It is not true that people, everywhere, are nice when they are dealing with foreigners, if these are tourists or for work, as you say. There are very good examples of countries in Europe, for example, well known for not treating tourists well or discriminating against foreign workers. Do I need to give more specific examples? At least, I am sure you know one of them. What a long of list people, from various countries, who do not consider Portuguese people specially nice. Are you sure you have not forgotten any country? Well, I could also give you a list of people from those same countries and some other countries, who have a completely different opinion about Portuguese people. People who live or have lived in Portugal. For example, none of my close family members were born or live in Portugal. My British in laws are going again to Portugal, within a week, as they have done for at least 20 years. Main reason: Portuguese people.

Now you really have to do something that goes a bit deeper (yes, I mean less superficial), and dig in one or a couple of regions, try some smaller producers, maybe check out what the yong guys are doing. Check out the tradition, like the Talha Wine in Alentejo. Maybe visit an upcoming wine region like the Algarve. You need to comeback and get to know us better :D

Thanks Rafael! I think the younger generation perhaps speaks more english than the older one. What I did notice is that even if they didn't speak english, they still tried to help! Cheers, hope to visit Brazil one day too!

Most people do not speak English, but a lot of people is basically able to communicate in English. Much more than in other European countries and certainly much more than in Brazil.

In Portugal's case, V is for VinHo. Either way, Portugal is very far from the 'best' European country, it's a very negligent, disorganized nation - the exception goes for the quality of its wines and modesty or timidity of its producers in exporting them with much - really much - higher prices than they are sold.

Typical Portuguese, to show off table wines that they want to sell, when in fact casa ferreirinha also has some of the most expensive wines in portugal… if you want to sell more wine then you have to sell people a feeling, a dream not affordability.
