The British Museum, which houses more than 8 million artifacts, possesses the most stolen goods from across the world. Throughout its history, the British Empire has taken countless artifacts from its colonies and other countries.

There are a number of rare Indian artefacts in the British Museum, which if they weren't preserved they would have been lost through global flea markets. However, what is even more interesting is King Sahajan's Peacock Throne, whose value, as per sources, is greater than Taj Mahal, is now in Iran. It is said that the throne is combined with the Persian Naderi Peacock Throne. It's now kept in the national treasury of the Central Bank of Iran. Why do none of us demand such national asset to be brought back? Why don't politicians make a hue and cry about it? Why do we single out the British?

Preserve is just a tactic word thrown by britain's imperialist agenda that countries couldn't save their cultural artefacts. Main aim of british museum is that they're milking money of the things being displayed. Shareholders are owning it and contributing it to economy. Someone's precious and respectable heritage is for someone's prverse display of money. The agenda for britain presence in India was always about the economy greed and geopolitics motivated by racial eugenics. If a country can't maintain their artefacts, then it's their problem. Britain have no responsibility in taking someone other's home stuff. It is straight up stealing and making money rather than the agenda word "preservation".

You guys are lucky, when I was there in 2008 they didn’t have any context or any markers. The signs just used to say “Hindu God”. All of the small metal statues are the statues that were taking from temples as loot or stolen secretly. Those are the statues that the main rituals would be performed on. In large temples they may be gold or silver and in smaller temples they would be made of panch loha.

Yes indians are becoming majority in many countries. They earn so much that they pay higher taxes than the native people. Yes, britain also destroyed our education system when they invaded india and forced English on us. Ours was a far superior system. But they could not destroy our rich culture and values. I would suggest that you watch Mr. Shashi Tharoor's speech about atrocities by Britain. You will get an idea what britain did to the countries they colonised. Ans yes cleanliness....sme places are dirty. But not out fault. Everything was looted by britain. If they have to pay us back it will be trillions of pounds... must be 10 times ok britains GDP. You can just imagine what was done to all the colonies. You reap what you sow....

Haha, you're slightly wrong. British museum is making money out of displayed artefacts. Imagine making someone's stolen respectable artefacts being displayed for prverse hedonism of money. I can't go to your house and took your property and display in a museum just because you live in third world country where proper laws aren't enforced, right??? If a country isn't able to protect its artefacts it's their responsibility to get blamed for the losses. Britain stands no moral ground or responsibility in taking someone's stuff which they saying that they're saving artefacts, which is just a false pretext over minting coins. Instead the shareholders are milking and contributing to the economy.

Please remember the text below: Do not use the word "looted." It was not looted but stolen. They were stolen through local rulers. It is impossible to loot, as people would know right away. But they used to tell the local ruler that they needed something from the temple, and our supporters would work with the priest or kill anyone who objected to delivering what "Saheb" wanted. In return, they would receive a better position from the Saheb until the new Saheb came. I have heard that they used to kill and throw the person in the well.

The artifacts have been preserved beautifully, and it is good to see the UK sharing the history and stories with tourists from around the world, who come to visit. History is something we can learn from, not change. Every nation has good and bad memories, but we all should work towards a more positive future. Today, there are many successful Indians living in the UK - who are living a good life with equal opportunities.

@@shreyajain789 True, but so many other countries like the USA, Portugal, Spain, France etc. were guilty of slavery as well, not just the UK. Every country has good and bad in its past. They don't repent for all those plunder they did in our country or even have a little bit of remorse for the countless innocent lives they slain and this is evident from their pessimistic views of India that they have in their media. And still they have the audacity to showcase these stolen artifacts as souvenirs of their long gone colonial glory days. Yes history is something that we must learn from but labelling these stolen artefacts as donated is infact insulting the true history itself. The blood spilled, the deciet and the betrayal cannot be forgotten.

The heading of this clip is very wrong and of low mentality. If British had sold to third party and got money in return...then it'd have been appropriate to call 'looting'. If all the countries will demand to give back their things then the British museums will turn into spacious empty buildings

Actually, what they stole were far more valuable than the material things. They ‘stole’ the millennia old knowledge pertaining to various fields by annihilating the people who practiced them

Well they can be regarded as Chor. But thanks Britishers for actually preserving Indian history. Otherwise in India it would have been looted either by politicians or Invaders. Nadir shah and Abdali almost took 80% of Mughal wealth with them. Peacock throne idk where it is. Iranians have taken it.

Looters are always looters, .. ......It's just 75 years back we got independence, and mostly all idols are more than 500 years old...That means it's us "Indians" preserved it for over 500 years, they just looted it....
