I went to GIT in 1986. It was the height of the shred era, Yngwie was king and Paul Gilbert was one of my teachers. We all loved 80's metal and that style. However, I always loved blues and cut my teeth at blues jams as a teenager. Anyway, Albert Collins came to GIT to perform that year at it was fantastic, such a breath of fresh air and he just killed it. I've been a big fan ever since. Albert was one of the best in my opinion.

Albert tuned his guitar to an open F-minor chord (FCFA♭CF), with a capo at the 5th, 6th or 7th fret. And that is why NO ONE could ever copy him or get "that sound."

@@scotthouston1737I'm pretty sure they were fender pups. A single coil Tele in the bridge and a fender hum in the neck.

That's true, and not only that but he used a Tele, and usually fender super or twin reverb amps. He was heard above anything.

This is one of my all time favorite blues performances ever captured on video this incarnation of the Icebreakers was ferocious and Albert is absolutely shredding here what monstrous stage presence as well. This is one hell of a fantastic good time, the Germans were blessed with a hell of a show here and deserve a lot of credit for the Rockpalast shows in general as they represent a treasure trove of superb music captured when bands from all genres were absolutely crushing it. Oh boy "Brick" could not be written or even sung in 2024 without the word police being called and coming for you...Albert you were one badass player and are sadly missed long live Mr Collins Mr Collins!

I played in the horn section with Albert in the early 80s several times when he would come through LA. I remember him walking through the crowd and out the door while playing. He had like a 200’ long guitar cord!

Albert Collins has been the huge 'Texas' cornerstone along my Blues journey. When I heard him on 'Jammin with Albert' with Jack Dupree and Rory Gallagher it was an epiphany of tone and rhythm. Wonderful to enjoy him and the band on my home ground, so to speak. Thank you so much 🌻:)

Memories! Music Row Showcase Nashville Tn. Albert would strut into the far reaches of the audience playing his guitar. Funky Chicken man Rufus Thomas would come from Memphis to visit and sing a song. We would yell Funky Chicken. He would say that’s my money song and sing something else Albert and his long guitar cord put him walking to the entrance door and even outside playing his blues. His previous back up band with a great sax player would play at the Cantrells club. Party and pissing in the parking lot! Sorry I forget his name but it’s his band in Japan asI recall.
