In April CTV was bragging about blanket rezoning in Bowness and how row houses and apartments have helped in that area. During the rezoning public hearing, there were many professionals that warned Gondek and city council that these new developments in older R-1 communities would stress the water mains and pluming. Fast forward to June, and here we are with a major water main break. The city completely ignored all those warnings! They are directly responsible for turning a blind eye to the obvious. Blanket rezoning will cause more of these breaks to occur, because R-1 areas were not developed for multiple housing units.

Not only is gondek following a WEF playbook....and I'll come back to that; but former mayor Nenshi, now running for the Alberta NDP Premiership, also did very little it would appear, regarding the city's infrastructure. Two self-important mayors consecutively, that would rather spend taxpayer dollars on ugly art that no one fron city hall consulted taxpayers about. Then 4 Million spent to give the cloudy, windy city of Calgary a new moniker of Inclusive Blue Sky City....wtf?! I'd be a damn site more accepting of this....incident, had gondek not threatened water restrictions, MONTHS AGO!! That's one helluva crystal ball there eh? This will affect some businesses, AND the annual Calgary Stampede. An emergency meeting is occurring today to re-visit the feasibility of this year's Stampede. De ja vu...restrictions once again, and of course, those restrictions have been extended yet again. Calgarians were told repairs would be completed by Mid week next week, Jan. 18, 19th. Now, wwith additional repairs deemed necessary, the ballpark timeframe is up to 5 weeks. Not to worry tho, this will be extended throughout the summer. On average, res taxes went up 9%. Where is the discussion of Rebates for Calgarians who are being taxed for services they are being restricted from using?! One thing is for certain, this 'mayor' has got to go.

The province shouldn’t have the ability to interfere in municipal politics. Democracies function on separations and checks and balances. Nothing the province could do, or should do. Recalling a mayor is the responsibility of the people. I dislike gondek a lot for just being the real estate business darling and their hand picked crony. However this water main break and the response to it really isn’t related to her. Politicians right now are taking advantage of the situation and using it for “optics”. But they’d just politicians. There’s not much more than can do besides rubber stamp a few things. The guys in the muck fixing the pipe aren’t gonna work faster just because of who the mayor is. The failure of the water main is being made into a municipal issue primarily because the UCP wants to change how municipal elections work and bring parties into the elections. However this isn’t really a good idea IMO as having more big money through parties involved in the process will only raise the bar to entry for the little guy and people who aren’t career politicians. IMO municipal politics should involve fewer donors, fewer lobbyists, etc, not more big money. We’ll be seeing massive infrastructure failure in the next decade anyways as the western world had basically stopped doing large public infrastructure projects and maintenance back in the 70’s and 80’s due to the neoliberal policies of thatcher and Reagan becoming the norm. Reducing government spending was easiest to pitch by just cutting out all the stuff people wouldn’t notice immediately. And now almost 50 years later we’re hitting the maximum lifespans of most of our infrastructure, we haven’t built more of it, and politicians are all happy to posture and bicker to look like heroes as everything breaks down around us.

No, provincial elections are kept apart from municipal elections for good reason! Local elections cannot be associated with parties or other major organizations that would sway people to vote purely based on affiliations rather than platforms. By having municipal elections be kept strictly apart from larger politics it allows local people better access to run and get elected based on effort and merit rather than the amount of money and campaign donors they have. The problem with municipal politics right now is mainly the Calgary home builders association, specifically homes by avi, who play king maker with Calgary politics in order to keep their businesses operating with shady practices and keeping homes unaffordable. I heard her say build. She might be referring to the calgary building department.

No answers of truth will come out of Calgary as to the cause of water main breaks. Occupation health and safety should investigate everything.

My monthly fees for water are more than the water I use....my guess is that I might have no water yet will pay for the water I don't have ....but at least I may have comfort that Calgary city council is dealing with climate emergency..as in Calgary changing the climate through taxation....tax us to death and things will change globally:)....

She is sweating bullets knowing that asking for federal government would be hard after what she thinks of Ottawa. Politicians with huge egos never think anything will come along and wreck something when you least expect it. She mentions I would be interested to know many times.

Perhaps the past Mayor should also have saved the outflow of cash from things like the Blue Ring and other "art" and spent it on infrastructure.... at times some basic necessities and upkeep are more important than art...

yea it's a municipal responsibility, but at the same time, smith is trying to give the province the power to remove city councillors so..... she wants power over municipalities but none of the responsibilities.

Bill 20 is to prevent commie councilors from throwing taxpayer money away on woke shit so that there will money available for infrastructure.
@beasport5053 ай бұрын
@@KB_13247 that's because the Mayor and council are CORRUPT and taking $$ bribes from lib feds to do the 2030 agenda which will devastate the province and further destroy Canada. The current Edmonton and Calgary mayors are mayor socialism agendas that will become communism. Gondick speciality in education degrees
