Danielle Smith has made the right call. I appreciate her being fiscally responsible and prudent. She's not a tax and spend NDP or Liberal. The Heritage fund is foe a rainy day, not for frivolous spending. I really wish Eastern Canadian pundits would keep their noses out of Alberta's business.

Vassy asked several times if Alberta should increase taxation of the oil companies. In the 80's Pierre Trudeau created the National Energy Program which was a large tax directed at the oil companies, and only the oil companies. The result was the oil industry in Alberta got into financial trouble - massive cuts in spending, massive lay offs, the Calgary real estate market collapsed with a huge number of foreclosures. This all happened at a time of higher oil prices and international oil industry was doing very well while Canadian oil industry collapsed under Pierre Trudeau's tax that targetted the oil industry. So that is the answer to Vassy's question. It is also why Alberta is soooo quick to defend the oil industry.

Smith is a a disaster. She is a master story teller, but the reality in Alberta is terrible. Electricity pricing and delivery is a mess. Car insurance is a mess. Health care is a mess. Alberta’s relationship with the Feds is a mess. And she’s now desperately trying to screw up our pensions. She is destroying what was a proud province.

Another program thats only available to the poorest demographics in our province. Why the hell do Canadian governments reward lower incomes?

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland has increased the approved federal borrowing limit by $73 billion, for a total of $517 billion this fiscal year. Keep on bankrupting Canada. As it is, my grandchildren's grandchildren will still be paying for the Trudeau/Singh government.

You should be thanking the Alberta PC government for that. It was their mess Rachel Notley walked into. I'm not saying she could have a better job. The Alberta deficit stated with Ralph Kline selling Alberta's assets at 10 cents on the dollar.

“We’re getting more revenue than ever before because of the cut to the corporate tax rate” Dani’s own words so with all that extra cash why not a tax cut for the average tax payer. Alberta you’re getting played.

Alberta, like all petro-states, is over reliant on unstable fossil fuel revenues instead of a secure tax regime funded by citizens. This unhealthy dependency severs the critical bond of *taxation from representation,* putting the state in a perpetual conflict of interest, where the needs of the oil & gas industry come before everything else - even before a safe future for our children.

Is that anything like manufacturing in Ontario? Yup it’s sure is. Provinces depend on the industries that fuel their economies. This is basic stuff. Funny thing is that manufacturing depends on cheap energy to remain profitable. So crap on energy producers all you want, everyone and everything else depends on them, and green tech isn’t in a place to replace fossil fuels regardless of how volatile they may be.
