What would you do if you inherited a family fortune? Buy yourself a nice manor in the country? A collection of exotic cars, a yacht maybe? That was the rather pleasant position Brazilian Alberto Santos-Dumont found himself in back at the tail end of the 19th century, and he could have spent that money on nice things, but he chose to do something else: he invented the world’s first powered, heavier-than-air flying machine.

After a hard weeks work I come home and after all the chores at home I get a dozen minutes for myself. I could have just sat in silence but chose to play the video and I am so glad I did. So relaxing to hear a great story while watching great shots of an even greater watch!! Some people meditate, I watch Watchfinder videos 🙏

Ultimate aviation timepiece! Sad story though, plagued by MS & distraught that the flying machines that he pioneered were used for war he eventually hung himself. Such a shame this true hero doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Good vid, cheers 👍👍

I got the new santos medium and I have to say it’s a very comfortable everyday watch. It doesn’t grab the attention, it doesn’t scream look at me, but it checks a lot of boxes in terms of comfort. I thought the jubilee bracelet was comfortable, but the bracelet on this watch is equally comfortable. It’s not a heavy watch and that makes it perfect for everyday wear

Cartier does not get enough credit for their design language. They make so many distinct and attractive watches, none looking cartoonish or cheap. One could say every Rolex is simply a variation on a basic theme, but cartier makes several unique lines. The tank, the santos, Ballon Bleu, later on the roadster, even today with the amazing looking Drive. Im glad they got in on the in-house game, hopefully that will propel them into the rarified air of the truly respected amongst horology.

Lots of viewer complained about dial printing ! Well, look up for an image about printed newspaper back in last century and you will see the similarity of the font between this watch and that old newspaper. The imperfection printing quality recalls this watch back in the old days as well as the story is told 👍

This video deserve an in-hand details of Cartier Santos line up itself (At least more than one). From the first wrist functional pilot’s watch of Cartier Santos Dumont, late 70’s Santos Galbee, early 2000 Santos Galbee XL 2823, alongside with Santos Demoiselle and recent Santos 100 series. Or even Cartier Panthére who has a straight DNA from Santos Dumont. I believe this early 1900’s original industrial design of Santos Dumont influenced 70’s cycle era of Gerald Genta’s phenomenal work for watch industry until today. Cheers 🍻

In the US only. Everywhere in the world, only Santos is recognized as the airplane inventor...
@efxnews4776
@efxnews4776 4 жыл бұрын
@@lonesomepiper6783 not exactly... Sadly only brazilians carry on Dumont's torch, and even so, most people outside Brazil, that know the story either dismiss without even considering truth, or know, but don't care... Fact is both the Wright brothers and Dumont are doing similar things at same time, Dumont was already flying all over Europe, while the brothers were thinking about flying. The first airplane of Dumont, flew 1906, but in France nobody know anything about the Wright brothers. So it's safe to say that they all invented the airplane in different versions. Dumont 14-bis is a canard, a completly different configuration than the flyers |, || and |||, from Wright brothers. One year later, Dumont was developing the Demoisele, Wich is consider to be the first modern airplane, and conceptually is the basis for ultralight flight.

Fascinating story, as always. Maybe a suggestion on the more affordable side of things: Stowa Antea KS vs Nomos Tangente? I'm sure there's a fascinating story to tell, with Stowa creating the watch that more or less inspired Nomos in the first place in the 30s (amongst other brands), to be revived in the 90s by Nomos, which in turn inspired Stowa to produce such a watch themselves. And how Hartmut Esslinger of Sony and Apple fame is involved with Stowa.

I personally would go with the wssa0010 the stainless steel and medium size makes it quite a versatile everyday watch. It's a pity you didn't show the quick switch system or the easy way you can shorten the bracelet. The only thing that I could really ask for is a better dial especially at this price point. Well also they could add a rubber strap with the leather one they give then it would make it quite a compelling travel watch. Great work as always 👌
