I made my way over from Canada to the UK for the first time; to attend A New Day Festival... this was a pleasant surprise and felt like a warm welcoming... a great deal of weight washed away from my shoulders after this. Thank you!

The great thing is that if you don't know Stan you'd think this song was an old shanty that they used in the 19th century. In fact, I know a few artists who heard the song from Stan or someone else and thought that it was really old. Stan was actually the same age as my mom and the song was written in the 70s. He used to play Godfrey Daniel's in my hometown and the recordings are on KZbin. I was only a little kid at the time, but I have older friends who saw him when he played in the 70s and early 80s.

Really love this. Persuaded me to buy the CD at the Exchange gig. Just listened to the original version and this is so much better for my tastes.

I do love a modern take on an old folk song. (I know it's not a REALLY old folk song but the original is so much in that style it could easily be an 18th century shanty he unearthed in an old book.) Kudos for doing something totally different with it! Really like the version. Takes bottle to do something original with a recognised classic and you pinned it. Bravo. :)

You're right, it's from the 70s but could easily be from the 1770s! Probably a big reason why we love it. Thank you!

I guess I like it, but seems to be missing the direct aggression of the live accapela versions from mr Rodgers that i love so much...
