Sir, you and I are on the same page on this album. Its my least favorite of their discography. They really tried to take advantage of the era to promote Demi and it failed because you lose Demi's authenticity. This was also around the time they were going into and leaving rehab. They didn't have themselves figured out at all. The songs on this album that are more personal to Demi's life are so much better (catch me commenting while I watch lol)
@nicanproud3 жыл бұрын
Demi's father actually died fairly recently. It happened after they released this song. There are AMAZING songs on this album, but the sound was very weird. Basically anything that didn't feel like forced promotion was good.

Skyscraper was their comeback single, this album was released after rehab but they recorded skyscraper beforehand. This was Demi’s low point and their voice was raspy because it was so damage from their ED, drug use and constant touring at the time. They re-recorded this song after coming back from rehab but didn’t feel it had the same raw emotion as the original.

@juliapakarinen79563 жыл бұрын
In a certain way, this was the Demi-reaction I was looking forward the most, because this album has gotten so mixed reviews among critics and fans. "Together" was the first song on the album that made me excited as well. "Lightweight" is one of my favorite ballads by Demi, and the ballads in general are my favorites on this album. "Unbroken" feels like a sibling-song to "Never Been Hurt", if it makes sense. "Hold Up" and "In Real Life" are sadly underrated. I was waiting for your reaction to the high note at the end of bridge of "GYHAB", and was kinda disappointed when it didn't come. *haha* :D Like many people have said, Demi recorded the original, rock-version of "For the Love Of A Daughter" for "Here We Go Again", but it was left out because her team thought it would be too mature for her fans from Disney-times. I love both versions, but the first one was more edgy and angry, whereas this one naturally feels even more personal, emotional and mature. Lyrics are a bit different too. Thanks for this reaction, I can't wait your reactions to "HWGA" and "DF."

first off, i'm a huge fan of your channel and reactions. i love how you listen to music and truly connect with vocal performance, lyrical content, and production. i was waiting for this reaction because i feel like context is needed when listening to this album. this record is truly a time capsule of the early 2010s sound in pop music fused with hip hop and r&b. that being said, demi was very inspired by r&b artists like keri hilson and rihanna and wanted to experiment with their sound. personally, i think the record was rushed as it was their first record released just 8 months after their first rehab stint. additionally, i think rearranging the order of the track listing could have helped the overall flow of the record, but i agree with your sentiment towards the features (minus "all night long" which still slaps for me). that aside, the deep cuts on this album make it one of my favorites from demi. tracks like "lightweight" (produced by timbaland), "fix a heart," and "in real life" need more attention. they really showed out with the vocals, which is incredible given their continued struggles with bulimia and drug addiction at the time. i just wish we could get more visuals from demi when they release an album. but maybe i'm just being greedy, haha. as long as they are happy and taking care of themselves.

That version was so bad with the unnecessary instrumentals. I'm so glad their label didn't allow them to release it in that album because the stripped down version we got on Unbroken instead is literally their most amazing ballad. If anyone hates Unbroken, they should remember For the Love of a Daughter has the amazing instrumental arrangement and vocals that it does because that album exists. If they put it on Here We Go Again, it would've had that poprock instrumental we all heard to leak to, and if it were on DEMI, it would've only been piano alone, plus Demi's voice changed between the 2 albums.

Demi recorded skyscraper before they went into rehab for the first time , came out of rehab and tried to re-record it and felt like they couldn’t get the same emotions in the voice , because the original recording was them like screaming out for help , they said they were bent over like sobbing in the studio recording this song . It reminds me of their song Sober and how it was recorded and written before the overdose , and they kept those same vocals because it felt like such a cry for help

The amount of synchronicity I felt while listening to you talk about this album is off the charts. It DOES feel like there's a lot of outside influence in this album- particularly when the first four tracks are features. The first FOUR! I think the first two fare better than the others, but I think when I look back on this album as one of my least favorites from Demi, it's BECAUSE of those features (I just- I cannot deal with "You're My Only Shorty"). The overall sound of this album (particularly the features) is also a departure from her previous two, so the whole album feels very much like trying to make a mark and have more staying power? Which is so interesting to me, because I think there are other albums both before and after this one that left way more of a mark on the musical scene than this one. The rest of the album where it's just them (just Demi) is so solid. Like the difference when we get out of the features and move onto "Lightweight" gives me chills. It's night and day. Also, selfishly, I am SO fucking excited for you to do the next album, Here We Go Again. It's in my top 2-3 Demi albums, if not my actual favorite, and I think these last two you've got in front of you you are going to LOVE.
