Ma Kelly’s through to Quo Live, for me not one album has any weakness. Quo was a heavy album, Drifting Away I love, a B side on the Mystery Song single. Great video mate thank you 🤘

This is my #1 Quo album, it is raw and heavy but still allows for a sensitive touch such as great songs like Lonely Man.

Yup, it has pretty much all you could want from the Quo. Definitely at the top of their game on this one.

I got to 1-12 seconds and you said I don't know how quo compares to back to back well without watching the the rest of the vid back to back is absolute cack to QUO But i did watch the rest this whole album is what Quo were all about Back to Back utter tosh you can't compare this to back to back
@VantagePointrocks

Well to be fair I was mentioning Back to Back at the start mainly to draw attention to the fact that, at the time, it was the only other Quo album I had reviewed. Plus the comparison was always going to be that the Quo album was rated higher. I will though always have a soft spot for Back to Back as it was the first album by the band I ever got when I was about nine years old.

From Ma Kelly to Blue For You this band hardly made a bad song. Quo is possibly my favourite album. It's definitely their heaviest. As you said, Fine Fine Fine is a poppy country song, but it still has some balls to it. All the Alan/Rick songs are up there with the best they ever did, and John is a monster on this album. Too bad Rossi didn't really like this style of music.

Yeah there were some more great albums to come after this one, but they didn't really feature more Parfitt/Lancaster compositions, which is a real shame.

Raw and rootsy . I just think it's a band that's given everything it has to give - what more do people want? Just as honest and unpretentious as any mid 70s record.

Yes the rot set in with the watered down production from Pip Williams , If you can’t stand ….. was even worse , and then a mini comeback with Whatever you want and Just supposin , after that I stopped buying until Heavy traffic.

John Coglan is one of the most overlooked drummers in rock music, in fact the original line up of Rossi ,Lancaster, Parfitt, and Coglan are all masters of their craft and could cut it with anybody out there back in the day!

When it was first released this was the first LP that was priced at £5.00 I remember being struck by the price hike at the time. I had to buy it from Boots (the chemist) in Gallow Tree Gate, Leicester. Like most listeners I slightly prefer Hello but you can't buy one without the other, it was a great follow-up LP and has stood the test of time. Nice to hear you giving a shout out to Coglan he was the backbone for them.

Yes Coghlan is a real star. The standard was pretty high back then with albums like Hello and Quo released in quick succession.

@VantagePointrocks. You may already know this. Apparently Francis Rossi's guitar solo on "Just Take Me" was deemed as the first (maybe?) "galloping guitar solo". This style has now been imitated by Iron Maiden and other Metal bands along the way. Thanks for your work on these reviews. You and yours stay safe and well.

Nice review, this to me is a fantastic album, especially as Hello was a tough act to follow, it did it with guts and style. Some would say this was the last truely proper Frantic Four album that plays with proper guts. Blue for you and On the level were fantastic, and probably the last real Quo albums in many fans eyes, but in my opinion they peaked with Hello, and the Quo album is a part 2 of Hello. Rockin all over the world was the real start of the softer pop side. That said we have to remember songs like Gentleman Joes sidewalk cafe, and of course Pictures of matchstick men, so in comparison that makes Who gets the love a power ballad in today's terms. So I think the band has done amazingly well to cover so many styles. Who said all their songs sound the same?
@VantagePointrocks
@VantagePointrocks 11 ай бұрын
Indeed, even on this one album the songs don’t sound the same, let alone across their career, where there is huge diversity. But yes, this probably was bang in the middle of their absolute peak. Such a shame we are all still lamenting their change in sound, which happened in 1977!

When Quo split in 1985, I would have loved to have seen Parfitt, Lancaster, and Coghlan form 'Status Quo PLC' and let Rossi go off and play some country music.
@VantagePointrocks
@VantagePointrocks 11 ай бұрын
Yeah it was quite galling to read the current issue of Classic Rock Magazine yesterday which was celebrating 50 years of Quo. In it Rossi said that Status Quo and protecting its legacy meant too much to Lancaster, while he wasn't that bothered. Such a shame the one that didn't care so much about the legacy of the band ended up in control of it.
@23rdjune
@23rdjune 11 ай бұрын
@@VantagePointrocks Indeed! On another topic...Where do Classic Rock Mag get "50 years of Quo" from? I'd have said 61 years if the formation of the original band is taken as 1962 (as it universally is); or you could argue for 1967 when the name change occurred; but what happened in 1973?
