I am thirty eight years old now and I have always been a Mumbaikar. I used to visit our association at Matunga regularly and I still do and I would eagerly wait for these locomotives to depart Dadar station next door and I used to dearly wish that they would slow down due to a signal or something just so that I could look at my crush for a while more. Such was my love for the WCM that I used to think it was the locomotive that was called the Deccan Queen. Later on, I don't know whether it was regular usage or not but, my mother used to tell me that the WCM is called the 'Blue Bird' engine. I don't know whether it was true for those times but I guess she must have told me about that name because her kid used to attend kindergarten called Bluebirds Nursery. I even remember having climbed onto one at Kalyan Station once and having had the time of my life in those ten minutes inside that powerful machine. I used to tell everyone in my childhood that I would grow up to be an 'engine driver'. I am driving a different kind of engine today of course. IR exemplifies life in reality. Love, breakups, death of my parents, end of my family, broken and bygone relationships - nothing comes in the way of a powerful loco which keeps chugging on no matter what. If I have had a hard day, I just rest the night in my shed, wake up the next morning, raise my pantographs, absorb the power from up above, toot my horn and chug on for the upcoming day. There will be crossings, derailment, delays and inclement weather. But in the end, as a hardworking loco, I know that my goal as a trusted workhorse is to reach my destination. I will rest in the corner of my loco shed someday remembering all these times later on. But there is still time for that. For now, I have to keep time and chug on full steam ahead.

I liked WCM locos with long hoods.The one loco named as Bluebird was perfect match for Deccan Queen.The design of this loco was simply Superb.I was sadened to see one such loco got badly damaged when it hit the Siddheshwar Express at Byculla.The Engine number I still remember .,was 20067.Actually the railways should have modified these locos to run on AC power and specially the Deccan Queen,because both were made for each other.At times I had seen this WCM loco at top of speed without any suspension wobbling. The WAp7 are really beautiful and powerful but,The WCMs should make a comeback.I had seen Lokmanya DC loco on C R and Vallabh, India,s first ACDC loco in W R.

@@हपिएम् buddy am from bangalore but I have a madness for Mumbai.. My aunt lived in Bandra..so we made trips every 6 months and I freaked out from pune till dadar..we would leave bangalore on a meter gauge train and then change train at guntakal or meraj and then take the shyadri express or the mahalakshmi express and reach Mumbai. These trains were the Broad gauge trains.. That's why the change. Then came the udyaan express and it would be a continues journey. I would sit by the door from pune to dadar and enjoy the journey.. I actually would go upto the engine side and see the engine change. The train would halt close to half an hour.. Can't forget that. These videos brought all those days back...

Kindles ones memory and no one can forget these locos in Bombay Poona route in those days. Older versions built by British Electric and Vulcan Foundry of UK one couldn’t miss the name plates and lovely rides during monsoon. All good things come to an end for better. Now WAP7 rules the rails so majestically and we see WCM locos in railway museums. Thanks a lot.

Takes me back to my early days when we went to Khandala in Summer to our estate. Train travel was what we children demanded over road just because of these iconic engines. We also have another estate in South Gujarat where the rail line passes through my property but we did not have these iconic locos. The only good train on Western railway worth tomtomming was the double headed diesel Rajdhani that flew on the tracks at 80 kmph.. which was very fast for that time..

A very nice and memorable compilation of these Beautiful Locos, Bro. Also while the ones older than WCM6 won't be found outside museums, WCM6 can still sometimes be seen around Kalyan station. If you are lucky, you could see ones around the Main line, or else in the Kalyan Yard.

Absolutely brilliantly and hard working locos. When travelling from Kolhapur one was always excited to see which pf the WCM or WCG beauties will pull the train to Mumbai. The locos were imposing and super strong in build and appearance. I consider myself lucky to have seen these locos up close when they were in service with all their might.

Because they were DC-driven and DC transmission is expensive so they replaced them with their AC-driven cousins.

They might look aerodynamic but their body was very bulky. Therefore, their top speed was limited to 120 km/h. Also, this design was rather cumbersome for the loco pilots because it caused them a lot of trouble while viewing the tracks and signals ahead as the windsheilds are at an awkward angle and the cabin base was at an excessive height. The windows were rather small, too. Although, I do agree that these were beautiful locomotives to look at.
