A major highlight of my railfanning session at Bhusaval. The Gitanjali had arrived at Bhusaval and I was only too eager to capture its departure. But I wasn't quite prepared for that amazing twin-tone horn that was sounded for 10 seconds. Sometimes, life gives you unexpected gifts :-)

thank u sir for refreshing my memory. im one of the fortunate guy who has got opportunity to get inside the cabin of this engine back in 1994 all thanks to my maternal grandfather who was engine driver with great indian railway.. he was posted in Manmad junction and Nandgaon is my hometown..so back in 90s because of my grandfather i have travelled in this engine with my grandfather from bhusawal to manmad many times. i literally enjoyed pressing the horn known inside engine cabin and use to feel fascinated when horn use to honk.

These remind me of childhood memories.. used to travel between Mumbai-Nagpur..could hear those lovely faded twin-tone honking of engine..would look out from windows..seeing vast green fields and villages out in the sunny afternoon..quickly zipping past by..and could surely enjoy the train taking a curve...and immediately looking out of window to get a glimpse of that engine..the picture etched in my mind.. never knew at that time it was this beast WAM4..but yes could see them frequently catering on that route.. why don't they bring back those fading twin-tone horns setup now..😊. A big Thx Sir!

Did you know? A lot of the ex-WAM4 horns have been placed onto diesels, I think WDP3As from GOC are the most standout example. That’s why the twin-tone magic we hear in this video sounds like the GOC WDP3A horns! They sound a little different because the WAM4/WAP4 horn configuration is one horn forward, one horn backward. Diesels have both facing forward, so sound more sharp. Also the actuating lever is different and the difference in airflow causes a slightly different sound in electrics vs diesels! The horns themselves are WABCO E horns, I think manufactured directly in India?

They used to exist in ER in the 1970s where I saw them first. They had the green-black livery.
