Man, Deceased… are such an underrated band… I was listening to the new album on the train ride home from a baseball game last night, and it kicks ass! Like I said to Thralls of Metal, I genuinely do not understand why they are not more popular with metalheads the world over. Like, they have all the ingredients of a great metal band that you would want!

that Demiser was straight frickin HEAT. one of my favorites of that first wave black metal revival/black thrash scene. the Hellripper b-side ep is straight heat too. now I just need Abigail or Barbatos to drop after all this time (aren't they two projects from the same guy? maybe)

I gotta admit I have a soft spot for Mushroomhead. Yes they're edgy and all over the place but their artsy aesthetic is intriguing and they do have a few very catchy songs here and there. Unfortunately you're right, this is overall not a good album and kind of a snoozefest. On the other hand the new Extinction AD release indeed kicks some serious anus, thanks for the tip!

I'm glad I wasn't the only one pleasantly surprised by the Within The Ruins record! I LOVED them when I was a kid, but the charm wore away as I got older (same with all metalcore, honestly), but yeah, this new record is pretty sick! I love the guitar work on it, the breakdowns weren't too obnoxious, and Steve's vocals are beefy. Also, cool to hear you talk about Fourth Dominion. We're mutual followers on Instagram, and I was pretty surprised when you brought them up. They do have a pretty cool sound

Extinction A.D. was pretty awesome, Teeth was great, Concrete Winds was good. Will check out that Demiser record, bc that black/speed/thrash sound rarely disappoints me.

One of my top releases of september has to be Draconian Darkness by Wolfheart. Just have a softspot for this kind of melodic death metal. Great production and super diverse album 🤘🏻

I didn’t even know mushroomhead made a new album…… should tell you everything lmao. I really like Within the Ruins and this is one of their better albums to me, I really like a lot of the tasty riffage and solos they have. Oceano I’ll give a try to, never have been amazed by them though. Teeth was brutal, twisted, deranged, and it’s a banger Deceased I haven’t listened to tbh but I know I want to get into them. Is this a good place to start?

Personal favorite of the month was “Lord of the Insect Order” by Monolith. A blackened deathcore album about a war with giant space bugs? Sign me up! I’m gonna keep that Mushroomhead album in mind for when I need a bad album to break my jadedness.

I completely agree with you on the new Mushroomhead. It was so boring. I’ve actually been along time fan of them but anything after Savior Sorrow is painfully mediocre. I really liked the new Within the Ruins and thought it was their best since the first Phenomena album. I thought the new Oceano was decent for meat and potatoes deathcore. Oceano have never reinvented the wheel when it comes to deathcore but they’ve always been great at super heavy riffs and breakdowns. The new Deceased though was one of the absolute best albums of the month and quite possibly the year. Deceased have always been a consistently great thrash/death metal band and King Fowley is an incredible songwriter and musician.

Within The Ruins was pretty good, Oceano was decent and so was Mushroomhead imo.. Oceano wasn't what i thought it'd be after the long wait.. it was ok, Within The Ruins keeping their signature Melodic Tech Deathcore sound was pretty good. Mushroomhead, I miss the old MH but new MH was ok.

I have to agree on Mushroomhead with this one. Their new album was really bad and I think this is their worst album to date. It was very dull, the production and mixing was awful, and it sounds like a Lacuna Coil ripoff. Honestly, Mushroomhead sucks without either Jeffrey Hatrix or J Mann. Of all nu metal bands, Mushroomhead is mid tier. They actually do have great albums such as Superbuick and XII but the rest is from good to meh to shit. I would give this album a 1/5 leaning towards a 1.5.

Mushroomhead is one of the worst bands out there, not a single album I enjoyed and this one I didn't even bothered hearing in full, just did 2 singles and found them to be painfully dull. Doesn't look like I lost much
