I once spent 132 hours in solitary confinement. I lost the ability to differentiate between my waking and sleeping reality, as my dreams began to merge with my surroundings and my surroundings seeped into my dreams. When I closed my eyes I could see things (and sometimes people--luckily they never spoke to me) that I knew weren't really there. Had I spent much longer in their "soft room" (that's what they called it), I don't think I would have maintained my ability to accurately assess what was real and what wasn't.

@@gutbucket6184 Asking what someone did to end up in prison is considered "uncool" in many circles, my friend.
@cda6590
@cda6590 2 ай бұрын
@@gutbucket6184 It was my first offense. I have no prior criminal record and was charged with a misdemeanor (battery) because I had an autistic meltdown. I called my mother who lives nearby so that she could contact emergency medical services so that I could have them transport me to a nearby psychiatric hospital. I was in a very dark place, but I've never actually physically hurt anyone (other than myself). I wanted to seek proper mental health treatment and when I did, the first people to show up at my house were armed with guns. To make a very long story short, I pissed off the wrong cop at the wrong time and he construed my admittedly aggressive attitude and tone as "battery," sending me to the local county jail. I was on a psychiatric hold and labeled as a "danger to myself." So dangerous that apparently I wasn't permitted access to a toilet. The 5x10 room was a literal shithole in the sense that when it came down to relieving myself, I had to squat in the middle of the room and shit in the allotted hole. I am currently in contact with a group of local lawyers who work specifically on human rights violations.

@@jarltrippin In my case I am sharing it far and wide and making efforts to ensure that what happened to me doesn't happen to others with my condition. The craziest part about all of this is that all things considered, I "got off easy." There are so many others out there who are far more vulnerable both in terms of likelihood of being subjected to this treatment and in terms of not having the necessary coping skills to endure such an environment. But yes, generally speaking, you are correct; especially when you're actually on the inside.
@cda6590

@@gutbucket6184 Hmm... I typed out a detailed response to your comment and for whatever reason it doesn't want to show.... Perhaps it will appear later, but on the off chance it wasn't "permissible," I pissed off the wrong cop at the wrong time during an autistic meltdown. With no prior criminal history, he was still able to construe my aggressive attitude (i never physically harmed anyone) into a misdemeanor charge. They put me on a psych-hold, stripped me of all my clothing, and had me shit in a hole in the middle of the room because apparently I was such a "danger to myself" that a toilet wasn't afforded to me.

Obviously most American prisons you won't see a ton of that but alot of the ability to get a guitar, band rooms, and as far as the ability to record that will really depend on the prison and security level. About "Divine Music From A Jail" - I dug a bit deeper and discovered that he not only learned to play accordion, he invented a different style of Tuvan singing - Kargyraa. Also, listening through this, I was able to translate some russian lyrics, the rest is in Tuvan language. "It Is Echoing All over the World": in intro he says something like "Where Kargyraa is heard, there's peace and God's spirit" and "I praise God's name everywhere, in prison camps and through TV screens and cassette players". "Only you": "This song I dedicate to my favorite composer, son-in-law, relative, friend. This is his song, Only You". Sadly i can't hear his name, feel free to correct me. "A Thin Mountain Ash": "Russian folk song called Thin Rowan Tree". Idk why in english its called mountain ash. Weird. "Ah, You, Sweetie" is another russian folk song. Although Vladimir served 33 years in jail, he seems like a peaceful and religious person. He died in 2013 but still lives in minds of his listeners and followers

I recorded a mixtape over the jail phone with a guy In state prison. His wife was dedicated, paid for studio time, we would call him up on the jail phone and record into protools, shit was off time and I would have to move it in time lmao. Wild, #freestunna. And that's not even the weirdest session I've ever had.

I thought and wrote parts of a fantasy story in jail. It's one of my favorites as well. Being in jail can inspire and ignite creativity, understanding and passion.

I definitely thought of Bathory self titled when you said think of an album bro, I win. Quorthon had a tight schedule and a sub par recording setup at the time.

My wife's brother was in federal prison for almost 10 years and he had a "band" with some guys in there. They had instruments and everything. They didn't record though.

X-Raided's album being used against him in court was BS. In fact, the prosecutor in his original case, who later was charged with several crimes himself, became his lawyer later on. He was/is a 24th St. Garden Blocc Crip. The murder of Patricia Harris was accidental, and committed in retaliation for a murder of another GBC affiliate by her sons, who were active Meadowview Bloods, a rival set, and the intended targets. X-Raided was present, but was not the shooter. Besides the ton of albums he released inside, and several since his release, he wrote a few songs that another famous underground rapper from Sacramento, C-Bo, released on his classic album "Til My Casket Drops". C-Bo is a 29th St. Garden Blocc Crip, and wrote a lot of music while locked up for a time, and celled up with X-Raided. I got to see X-Raided perform 9 months from the gates on his welcome home tour, it was epic.

X Raided was the reason everyone with a karaoke mic thought they could make a rap album growing up. he also dropped an album under a pseudonym in the early 2000s. Nefarious, i do believe.

@@DrSkam-by6pd “you might as well say you like Screwdriver “ Screwdriver and Burzum are two completely different styles of music. I know this might be above your IQ of understanding but you can enjoy the music of Burzum and not agree with the politics.
