Albuquerque mayor: Here’s a crazy idea, let’s give homeless people jobs

In 2014, there were about 1,400 homeless people in Albuquerque, New Mexico. But a simple solution began to help them leave the streets: give them jobs and housing accomodations. Not only would the volunteers get lunch and get paid more than minimum wage, but they also got to feel good about helping clean up their community. Special correspondent Kathleen McCleery talked with then-Mayor Richard Berry about his idea, and how low-cost investments in lifting people in poverty and with mental illness pays off.
