Mountaineer is a cool little tank engine that came from my home country United States of America. Great old footage on this video.

This is the loco I fell in love with as a child. By the time I was about with a camera it had gone. This has to be my favourite film on KZbin.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. 1986 was the year I did my stint as footplate volunteer, albeit briefly! Cheers, Dougal

Like many of us of a certain age, I have very fond memories of the Alco. It has always been my favourite Loco on the line. I know and understand why the decision was taken to restore Welsh Pony and can only hope....in the not too distant future...it becomes commercially and operationally desirable for the Alco to steam again. In the meantime, I'm glad she's safe and undercover. Thank you for posting this footage, its good to see again!

Great to see this vintage footage of the FR from 1986. Perhaps it might appear on a DVD release in the future. Far better than my efforts in the late 80s

Glad people like it. It may appear as an extra on the next 'year in the life'. There may also be further footage lurking on more as yet unwatched VHS tapes.

What happened to the 7 1/4" gauge at 10:40? Looks interesting

It moved to Minffordd yard for a time but then went from there, I'm not sure where to. I never saw it running.

The first Sprinter. Not only that, but it's also painted in Regional Railways colors. A sign of BR splitting its trains into corporate sectors rather than regions (Porthmadog and Blaenau were in the Western Region).
