Alco Switcher Works the Old Lehigh Valley Main

After crossing the CSX main line to the other side of town, Depew, Lancaster & Western's Batavia, NY local BT-1 creeps onto the remnants of the old Lehigh Valley main line to work Chapin International, picking up one covered hopper and setting out another with an Alco S6 built in 1956 while old LV infrastructure (such as signal boxes and switch mechanisms) still stands nearby!

Love those local switching moves - the more remote the better ! Track seems a bit rough on the ex-Lehigh main but they still have at least one customer to serve. That little switcher just purrs.

Pretty cool catch. Glad the leaves have almost fallen off. It gave a better view of the switch. Did you happen to see any dates on the rail? Just curious.

Thank you! I thought I was gonna have to send my drone to catch the set out, but then I saw how open the foliage was so I decided against it. Unfortunately I didn't see any dates; it didn't even cross my mind to check for dates. 😒 Next time I will!

They make plastic and metal hand held pump up weed sprayers (Chapin Sprayers). The hopper cars are loaded with plastic pellets for the molded plastic weed sprayers.
