I’m in recovery because of this movie

Growing in a family with a father who has had substance abuse, this movie hit me hard. Meg Ryan sold this to me, especially with her AA speech performance, it made me cry at some points, it felt so honest.

You couldn't make the opposite movie.... "When a Woman Loves a Man." All of her friends would've said, "You need to leave him! You deserve better! A man who has his act together!"

Not sure where you guys got a quart is 250 ml because it’s 946. Any alcoholic that’s ever bought a fifth of anything knows there is 750ml in that which was what I was putting away a day. A quart for a person Megs size is unreal, not unbelievable at all but I’m not sure I could have done it. I said that in past tense because I’m 100 days sober. Never felt so good.

Two things I hate about substance abuse. 1. What it does to a family. Birth or married it is destructive. They try to drag you into the madness. Then the lying and cheating starts. If a spouse leaves or guards visitation, they are seen as unreasonable assholes. 2. Sobriety. All of a sudden you have to tippy-toe around this person because they are "fragile". You can't bring up what hurt they imposed on the family. Behave as though nothing happened. But you are sitting on edge waiting for the fall and the next wave of: When I choose to abuse alcohol, drugs, etc.

Agreed very selfish indeed so is Meg Rayan's charecter in the movie. It is all about her feelings. She did not care about her husbands feelings when she drank or her kids feelings when they saw her drunk or when slapped one of the kids. But no she is the victim here

I don’t think that’s fair. I grew up in it. I became it. I survived it. 15 years sober. No one tip toed around me when I got sober and the very idea of that is pretty upsetting to most of us in recovery. It is a disease. There is treatment and yes, it can be absolutely crushing when the addict doesn’t get it. My mom died drunk, I live sober. Neither of us deserve the scorn or generalizations of people who never lived it. Most of us that make it do our best to make amends, to make our life matter. No one needs to tiptoe around us…but we do not need to apologize the rest of our lives due to other’s misunderstanding of what addiction or alcoholism either.

Another flaw. A quart is 946.4ml. That's 31.5 drinks (or nips) or 1¼ bottles of a 750ml bottle of vodka.

Another flaw! Her daughter DOES NOT call 911! She calls her step father who is waiting for his flight in an aiport lounge. His whereabouts and contact numbers were on the fridge! Again, did you bother watching the movie?

How did Alice become principal for the elementary school?
@glassonion5474 Жыл бұрын
She wasn't. She was a school councelor - not part of the teaching staff, certainly NOT the principal. This clip is flawed.
@MrYilmaz1k7 жыл бұрын
1 quart (946ml) = Approx. 23 drinks. That comes to about 1.5 - 2 drinks per hour through out the day during the hours you're awake. Since you're liver can rid your body of a drink per hour you can be fully functional for most of the day if you give enough time between the drinks. People will not really be able to smell it unless they are trying to kiss you and they certainly won't be able to tell the effects till later on in the afternoon by which time they will assume you're just tired. If you have an average tolerance for alcohol and you're health is good overall you should be fine by the time you wake up next morning as long as you've been eating and drinking plenty of water through out the day. She sounds like a person with high tolerance so i don't see any myth's there it's definitely possible to hide. Once I drank 30 drinks in 30 hours without much sleep and i remember everything and i was quite normal. It's the binge drinking that shows those undesirable "drunk" effects in people that you speak of in the subtitles otherwise it's certainly not a myth what she is talking about.
@helenjoanna494 жыл бұрын
Of course people can smell it! Even if it's vodka. Ask anyone in AA and yes, I am in the fellowship.

What the heck? Alice is a school counselor - NOT A SCHOOL PRINCIPAL. If you are going to make videos about a movie, at least take notice of the scenes in the movie.

It makes sense actually. They both came to terms with who they were and how much they actually loved each other
@porshane2 жыл бұрын
@@derekperry4150 that does not mean they should be together. Love does not really conquer all. Their relationship should be over and they should both move on. She gave up on him, and though she regrets it later, the choice was made. He should not have gone back to her and she should not have asked him back.

The constant lying about how much was consumed. The going out on her own at night and having the expectation of me picking her up after I get out of work at night. The constant hurtful comments made towards my children. This is my 2nd marriage, I have no children with her. I should be 6 feet under due to the nightmare I've been living.

I had her watch the movie "When a man loves a woman" with me. I watched her facial expressions to see if certain scenes would evoke a strong emotion. She sat there still with no reaction to some of the scenes. I was in disbelief that she didn't see a correlation with Meg Ryan's character.
