Have you experienced anxiety or depression after drinking? The link between anxiety, depression and alcohol is huge. This video will tell you everything you need to know and will help you address the issues you might have experienced with low moods, worrying and feeling down.
Many people believe that alcohol helps them relax, unwind and de-stress. Yet after drinking they feel heightened anxiety and depression and fail to understand why. Instead, they crave another drink to take away the uncomfortable feelings and reinforce the false beliefs that alcohol is helping in some way.
Alcohol does not help, it makes anxiety and depression worse - when we drink, we end up feeling worse afterwards than before we started.
Alcohol significantly impacts mental (and physical) health and it is a sly drug that creeps up on people. We think it is helping, yet all the while it is making anxiety and depression much worse. Before we realise it, we are caught in a trap of daily drinking and experiencing low moods and severe anxiety.
This video explains what you need to know about alcohol, depression and anxiety. When you understand the facts you will be in a position to make positive life choices so you can allow yourself to flourish without feeling stuck.

I have been sober for 9 nights after drinking up to a pint of whiskey a night for over a decade. I drank to medicate my depression and to sleep. Not getting sleep yet, but my depression feels like it is diminishing. I pray i can stay sober. My life depends on it.

Today is the one year anniversary of my divorce from my second wife...it's also my third day of sobriety. Alchohol ruined both marriages and has plagued my life for a long, long time. I know I can continue without alcohol in my life, I was completely sober for three years and I felt great and I was engaged in all of my various hobbies and activities. Than in 2022 I had one drink, just one and that's all it took. I lost all interest in everything I loved doing and I just drank and I neglected my family. So here I am all alone but tonight I'm not going to drink to fill that gap, that loneliness. It's time I find myself again...being by myself might actually be a blessing, I have to be happy with me first and it feels good doing it sober. Like I said, I've done this sober thing before so I know what to expect and I expect greatness.

Plus guys a gals.This is a great awaking. The golden era. I know its not easy but stop and life a clean healthy life. Start eating healthier. Its so much fun to go do things. Even if you can find a stream with a friend and get a little sun and get grounded with bare feet on earth. You will loose wieght and look and feel good. Cut the anchor off your ankle. Be free. I have heart and gut issues now. Which i will fix. But i lost weight and look great. You can do it. (Pray) everything is a chore when you drink. Things get easy when you quit. God Bless people. Lets grow up❤ ❤❤

Drinking alcohol among other things, has a vicious circle. You drink to get rid of the anxiety (because you drank the night before) . You spend your day in a foggy anxiety malaise , possible not feeling good physically. Then throughout the day you recover somewhat, but still looking for the time you can drink next. Then you start your drink, the anxiety comes back but quickly soothes as you become more drunk. Over and over. you drink to get rid of the anxiety , you get anxiety because you drink.

Thanks for this video Simon. I'm still struggling with alcohol dependence. I've been sober for the last 2 months but i lapsed this weekend and i hate myself for it. I don't know why i started drinking again. Last year i went through the most horrible experience after going cold turkey. I couldn't sleep my brain felt like it was racing and when i did manage to fall asleep i had the most vivid dreams that i couldn't tell reality from the dream. I ended up on diazepam for a week to calm my brain down. I'm not going to give up giving up. I'm trying to not let the guilty feelings not encompass me. Ok i failed this weekend but i can get back to where i want to be. Cheers fella you have really helped me.

This is such an awful thing to get over, I am a 74 year old woman fighting alcoholism, I’ve tried a.a. And a few other sources of help, I am a big old coward, my circumstances just make me think, “what the hell I may as well have a drink “ life is crap, always has been , and yes I feel sorry for myself, because I can’t just stand up and say how bad folk, including my mum have been to me, me, I’ve had neglect sexual abuse, and physical abuse. I don’t think there’s any point of trying to get sober now? But how I wish I had some happy sober days to look forward to xx

I have always been so upbeat and bubbly, happy and excited about things. I’m an artist and I haven’t actually painted unless I’m commissioned and have to - I lost my husband of 25 years 7years ago in a horrible awful situation ( and he was an alcoholic for 3-4 years) and then lost my daughter from accidental fentanyl overdose last March. I told my new relationship I would not allow alcohol to consume me. Well I WAS FCKNG WRONG. This demon is on my back . I’m so depressed and it’s a darkness, loneliness.. I can’t stop or I can’t function but then I turn it up overdrive and it’s destroying me and my relationships now. Idk what to do. I’m drowning. I can’t talk to anyone. I’ve tried to tell my new husband of 6months that I want to drink myself to death. The bad days become more. I drink to be able to suppress the depression and help me function and be happy. But my husband and I fight like really bad. I break things. I black out so I can’t remember anything but pieces. If I eat I get physically sick. I try because I feel so empty and horrible that I think if I eat a good meal I’ll feel better but the worries and the fear of my future make me physically sick. I know it’s killing me. I feel so horrible and so depressed the next day and I’m confused about what exactly happened. I see pictures of myself a few years before my horrible addiction and think how did this happen? I’m very stubborn, I’m very headstrong and I hate asking for help. How did I get here? I need something, somebody to help me. I’m falling apart and I don’t know what to do. But dying from alcohol seems like it’s the easier path to get away from this pain and hurt. When I drink it helps me at least suppress the feelings and makes me feel invincible.

Hi. I don't know where you live, but there is help out there. I went through everything Simon told in the video, the only way to life and happiness is STOP drinking. Like you, I've lost a lot of people and also a business, just in the last 3 years, including my brother who committed suicide a month ago. I hadn't been drinking for months but I drank for 2 weeks non stop. For me, without the help from a doctor who prescribed me medicine so I can sleep during the first week when we experience alcohol withdrawal symptoms I could not have made it. Please go find help, it's a must!

Yes, I can completely relate to that. The mind has a habit of making us think we need something we don't, or making something feel impossible or unachievable. We are stronger than we know :)

Thank You so much, this was exactly what I needed. I thought drinking was helping with my anxiety however it made it worse. I started to wonder if that was the case and I was right. I'm 3 days sober I feel like I'm a completely different person.

I watched this video for the first time on Sunday and re watched Monday. Last night I did what you suggested and really noticed how my mood and feelings changed as the night went on. First few beers feeling pretty good, but soon I was just sitting on the sofa feeling sorry for myself and blaming almost everyone and everything. This morning I woke again feeling sick and hungover. I'm 20 years without a break drinking 12 cans a day. First time I have really looked at how it's now making me feel.

During the pandemic I developed a 2x wine with dinner habit. A year in or so of this, I feel hangover symptoms, worsening anxiety and depression weepiness, disrupted sleep even on nights I skip the drinks. My symptoms practically melt away with that first glass of wine or beer only to return when I wake up. I drank heavily on weekends only 30 years ago and never felt quite so Sh**ty.
@besober
@besober 2 жыл бұрын
Paul, you have hit the nail on the head when you said that alcohol makes the symptoms 'melt away only to return', because this is the reality, alcohol is a drug, it has to have some kind of upside otherwise nobody would buy it and this is about the only benefit, it hits the pause button for a short period of time. What helped me was looking at what the trade off was and whether it was worth it, was a short period of escape instead of actually facing up to my own feelings worth all the negatives that came with it. Once I had the data and got clear about how much damage alcohol was causing, it was a no brainer, I knew I had to educate myself about stopping drinking and cut out alcohol for good. That was 3 years ago and I haven't drunk since, you can do the same. Simon

Idk, I didn't drink at all in high school, iw as very depressed. I drank very sparingly my freshman year, and had still pretty significant anxiety and depression. Drank moderately sophomore and junior year (binge drinking Maybe once or twice a month), very mild anxiety, very little depression, senior year, drank heavier, about the same. Got. Out of college, stsrted bartend ing, started drinking weekly, then ramped up to Drinking almost daily, depression and anxiety were virtually gone. Finished graduate school, depression was almost completely gone, but I drank almost Daily, but very very rarely Getting drunk. I'm not sure if the drinking didn't have any impact or what, but as I aged my anxoety and depression just went away. Now I'm 35, married, good job, daughter, I drink occasionally (basically just on weekends, sometimes I'll take the weened off too) but my depression and anxiety are so distant now I almost forget I ever had them. It feels like a past life. But for me, I was. Most depressed and most anxious when I wasn't drinking at all. Now when I go a month without drinking or drink heavy for a Month, I don't notice too much change, I mostly feel pretty good all the time, or at least I don't feel suicidal and anxious all the time, so every day is a good day. Idk what changed. Maybe I just grew up?
