Hey Scott, thanks for the video. I have a complex(for me anyway) question. I made an elderberry tincture with 190 proof everclear. It was far to strong to use. I removed the alcohol using a distiller. Now I'm worried about shelf life. I want to add alcohol back into the solution to make it 25% so it will last for a year or two. I'd like to add in a 40% alcohol. I have 1 cup of my distilled solution, how much of the 40%(80 proof) alcohol do I add to make it 25%?

In the UK as well as the rest of Europe we simply use the percentage of alcohol to denote its potency.

I made a hormone tincture and used everclear 190 proof. So, after 14 days i strained it, pressed it and got it in my tincture bottles. Holy crapola! The everclear is so damn strong! I decided to boil water just before it steeps in a little shot glass then I added my tincture.. suppose to dissolve..right !? It’s still nasty and hot!! What else can I do to make to manageable to swallow? What other alcohol can I use?

Ethanol is the type of alcohol that we drink. And food grade would imply that you can consume it. However, I'm not familiar with using it under that specific label. It sounds right, but I'd double check with someone else.

So let me ask you this question I’m gonna start with 190 proof or even 200 proof ethanol food grade To do percolation with my herbs So once I add water to the ethanol, is that going to reduce the strength of the tincture for consumption or Will it still stay a strong tincture, but only just diluted down ? Because I do know that when you start with a higher strength ethanol, it gets more of the plant matter out versus a lower volume alcohol

It all depends on what you want to extract. If you're after only the alcohol soluble components, then you want the proof to stay as high as possible. Any additional water would dilute the potency. If you're after only water soluble components, you only need enough alcohol to prevent spoilage. Since we're very often after a mixture of these, a stronger proof (undiluted) alcohol does not always equal a medicinally stronger tincture. For the most medicinally potent tincture, use the proof that best corresponds to that herb.

hey I'm trying to get hold of alcohol here in the UK iv managed to find non dentured ethanol alcohol which says it contains 5% water is this OK to use.will be my firs time making this.

Which herbs and plants would you advise for Everclear? Which alcohol would you suggest using as more natural and more potent?

For full strength Everclear? Anything that is very resinous. Gumweed. Frankincense. PIne resin. If you are looking for a more natural alcohol, you can buy organic alcohols made from non-GMO materials. I don't have any good insight into which would be more potent, other than by proof number. Herbal energetics may come into play, but I've never heard anyone speak on it, nor noticed a difference myself. Thanks for watching!

once distilled your good no need to worry about GMO,gluten,pesticides etc... distilled alcohol reads 0-10 PPM so its cleaner than drinking city water or recycled sewage water as i call it and most bottle waters so almost nothing is carried over after distilling but alcohol and flavor from the water that evaporates

UK ABV is much simpler than USA, if it's 30% ABV then it is 30% alcohol content
