Alcohol ink tutorial for beginners.
This one is simply about hairdryers and heat guns.....
Wanted to do some videos for beginners talking about different things you might not know yet, if you are new to inks.
I had trouble my self when I first started, finding information about products to use, different techniques, do's and dont's.
#alcoholink #alcoholinkartist
I would like to do more videos like this and as I mentioned in the video, you are more then welcome to leave a comment if you have anything you would like me to do a tutorial on.
Already thinking of doing something about wearing respirators, bottles/containers for iso etc. mixing new ink colors.....
What do you think....?
I've previously done a video comparing Yupo and Nara paper (just mentioning it in case you haven't seen it yet... )
Anyway, I hope some of you will find this video useful and as always thank you very much for watching, liking, commenting and subscribing.
I hope to see you again very soon.

I'm new to this, made some disasters, bought a couple of tools that were not useful, a heat gun with no variable settings that is really hot & nothing else & air brush combo with attachments that works exactly the same way as the little black puffer, one puff at a time. So apparently, I've done everything you have just cautioned against.☺ I'm not upset about my useless purchases because now at least, after watching your video, I can have a do-over with the correct supplies & I may even be able to create something because of the techniques demonstrated in your video. Why, I wonder, in over 2 years of saving pins & watching videos did I not ever see anyone explaining & showing exactly how to move the ink. That's why I kept getting fingers. It's funny that sometimes it's the simple things that are the most important that are overlooked. I can't thank you enough for your video & I hope you continue because I can't be the only person who appreciates clear information. You did a wonderful job & yes your hair looks pretty.🥰

Thank you very much ❤️❤️ the whole reason I started making tutorials was because I wished when I was new at ink, I a had found someone who would explain everything in details…. all the tiny little things that makes such a difference when painting with ink. I’m sooo glad you found the video helpful

Hi Randi. You did a superb job in helping us newbies through how to move alcohol inks. I started using alcohol inks about a year ago and couldn’t find anything close to this valuable video on how to work and move the inks. I too spent countless hours on KZbin and still couldn’t make my projects look beautiful. You have inspired me to try again with your wonderful tutorial! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!🙏

Thank you Randi!!! I am such a newbie and get so frustrated watching everyones beautiful artwork, as I can’t figure out how it’s done. I mostly have trouble with the heat...I never know when to use cool and when to use heat. It seems when I use cool, I get little bloopy edges. I’ve read that is when the humidity is too high, so I use some heat and then if I’m not using Nara paper, the paper will buckle...it’s a mystery to me! But I do keep trying, as I love this medium. By the way, you did GREAT! And THANK YOU for addressing the simple, basic things that can help us to create! Absolutely love your videos!

Thank you very much - it was actually fun sitting in front of the camera... I might do it again 😊 the air and heat is tricky... and humidity does not work well with ink. You just need to keep trying and figure out how much heat you’re paper can handle - sometimes it’s just a small adjustment, maybe a small cheap hairdryer that’s a bit less warm then what you are using now ....

You did great! 👏 I so want to try this. When I was a child (I'm 53 now) I was shy and thought I had to be perfect. I've always enjoyed the creative process, I cook, bake and for the past 6 years I've self taught myself to make jewelry. I love now we have KZbin for those that are shy and don't thrive in a traditional classroom setting. Thank you for sharing your experience especially with those who don't have a clue and need a clue! Lol 🙂

Thank you Randi! You are extremely helpful with your videos. I am an old hairdresser and air flow direction is the most important part of styling hair. The amount of moisture is very important as well. Like with hair styling, the amount of ink and iso combined with air flow direction is key! Funny how they’re both related.
@LostMittens

Also maybe a sock on end of the dryer can control speed of air. There’s a product called a Hot Sock, a diffuser, used on a hair dryer for curly hair to control air flow so doesn’t blow curls too much gives better control. It’s literally a heat proof material sock. I’ll have to try it and let you know :)

Thank you so much, this was very helpful! Do the inks matter? I bought Resin Alcohol Ink because I got 18 colors and they were cheaper than Piñata or Holt brands. I just tried for the first time today using a puffer and hair dryer. All 3 turned out ok, with practice and redoing some places. Wanted to try it out before I invested in expensive ink, but wanted to know the difference. I also only had a pipette because my pin bottles have not arrived yet.
@randihart5731
@randihart5731 3 жыл бұрын
You are very welcome 🙏 I do believe there is a difference, but I’ve never tried resin inks on paper..... Pipette works fine, pin bottles are easy to control. About prices, the more expensive inks are usually better quality. If you do start buying, just get a few different colors to begin with, and mix them yourself to create new colors.

Thanks for the video! I have two questions: where can I buy the paper you recommend from Nara. I'm from Spain and Amazon only has it in circular format. I would like you to talk about how to frame the pictures or how to glue them to wooden boards without wrinkling the paper. I have seen some artists who do it but I don't know what materials to use, or how to do it....

My issue is with how to apply and how much iso to use. I got a bottle similar to yours from the Dick Blick art store here in USA but it tends to leak at where the top screws onto bottle. I’ve used smaller needle tip bottles but it seems the bottle diameter doesn’t allow me to get needle tip as cost to the surface as the narrower bottles like yours. Also it seems the droplets of iso are too big when I’m trying to make slender flower petals. So advice and tips on iso usage would be helpful.

Hi Randi How do you prep a canvas board for alcohol ink? Do you use alcohol ink or acrylic ink? What is the difference? Thanks Melissa
@randihart5731
@randihart5731 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Melissa for regular canvas I use a latex primer - many use Kilz2. Might work for canvas boards. All my videos so far are with alcohol ink, but I also use acrylic ink. It’s a bit more tricky to mix with alcohol because it’s water based, but it can be done. I might make a video on acrylic inks soon. 🤗
