That piece of plastic is a book of the hive. You can see which frame of brood emerges, what frame of food they opened, your treatment varroa kill, where is the cluster, do they collect pollen... all without opening the hive. People don't like them because they have to clean them and they last less than full bottoms. But if you could buy cheap plastic ones with the option to collect pollen like we can in Europe.. every back yard beekeeper would have them

I don't kill my bees I look for bees on the ground the first obvious sign of mite infestation when I see bees on the ground walking around not able to fly crooked wing disease but you have to check almost everyday...I just do a mite drop like your doing❤❤
