Im case anyone is wondering, the special batting powerups only come from hitting a special pitch and securing a base in backyard baseball '97. So the only way you get them is if one of your batters got struck out, the other team decides to throw a special pitch, and you swing on and make a hit, then get your runner safe. That's why they are so rare. In Backyard baseball 2001 you can get batting powerups by getting a double as well.
