This one is my favorite, but I would highly recommend Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri which he is probably most known for, it was nominated for a probably should have won Best Picture in the stupid shape of water year.

The Wizard, but that’s a purely sentimental reason. Not to mention, writing an analytical essay on how it dissects the modern nuclear family structure got me into NYU film school. I owe that film a lot, which is crazy considering it’s basically a 90 minute commercial for Nintendo. Lol

The Banshees of Inisherin by the same director stars the same 2 actors & was highly praised. I personally *would not* go in blind just because it gets a little weird 😅 but it's beautifully shot & Colin Farrell's performance really moved me.

I don't know for you, but for me that scene hits hard not cos of seeing the graphic death of the boy, but because of Colin Farrells performance. Seeing him see that knowing he is responsible he draws you into that horrifying moment much more than anything, to the point where the boy doesn't even need to be on screen for it to be just as effective.

The scene really sells the impact of ending a life via the contrast: the priest was dying for a reason, even if we didn't know why, it feels deserved, but the boy was just wrong place wrong time. And there's no taking it back even though it was just a stupid mistake

Absolute masterpiece of a film. One thing that people often miss is how the the scene in the museum, where they are looking at The Final Judgement painting, is referenced back to at the end, on the the film set with all the bizarre characters.

I think the metaphorical "killing of the child" to be an adult is a theme revisited here by most of the characters. The innocence, honesty, loyalty and humour of a child lost to the hardness of adult life is its own death. The real murder is the murder of the child inside. I mean if you want an essay on this, it wouldn't be difficult to write.

You can't do far wrong with Martin McDonagh (Writer/Director) of this film. His latest film Banshees of Inashiren has the same main actors. But he has also worked with Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell separately (The Guard and Severn Psychopaths respectfully). But, I would recommend Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri highly. Oh and the afore mentioned The Guard is quite the companion piece for this film.

The McDonagh brothers just have a gift for writing. Brendan Gleason gives a phenomenal performance in Calvary which was written by John Michael. I think the best performance I've seen of Colin Farrell was in Phone Booth which is another great movie (and almost a film in real time) For a very different performance from Ralph Fiennes, I thought The Constant Gardener was an incredible film

This was directed by Martin McDonagh. The 2 actors are reunited in McDonaghs The Banshees of Inisherin. Also did 3 Billboards, with a similar mix of comedy and drama. His brother John McDonagh directed Gleeson in The Guard. The most financially successful independent Irish film of all time. A personal fav of mine.

One of the funniest films I have ever seen. Colin Farrell best performance of his life. Side note: met Colin in bar in South Dakota in 2007. He was driving to NY for a role. He was very nice and humble. And funny. I told him I loved him in The New World. He laughed said thanks you were the only one.

Martin MacDonagh (writer and director of this film) is a playwrite first, and movie director second. He is also the master of mixing utter bleakness and sadness with pure hilarity. I would recommend his latest fim, 'The Banshees of Inisheerin' It also stars Bredan Gleeson & Colin Farrell - along with Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon.

And I'd also highly recommend watching "Synecdoche, New York" it's also darkly comedic and it's what I consider the late, great Phillip Seymour Hoffman's best performance! Hi Chrissie, my first tome watching you. Glad you r doing this movie, I love it. Not a big Collin Farrell guy but I love Brendan Gleason. That being said Farrell is great in this movie. I agree with some of your other viewers - “The Guard” is a really good Brendan Gleason movie. Kind of like “In Bruges” you will laugh and certain scenes will make you cry. I saw the “Banshees of Inisherin” I was not impressed. Not the same chemistry you see here. “Calvary” is another great Brendan Gleason movie - like “In Bruges” and “The Guard” it is another dark comedy. The last one I would recommend is “Snatch”. All star cast, great story, very enjoyable film.

'The necessary death of Charlie Countryman' has a very simular melancholic, but kind of beautiful vibe and some really cool moments Shia LaBeouf, Mads Mikkelsen and even Rupert Grint(Ron Weasley) in a small part 'Lucky Number Slevin' is another great movie in a not so simular but simular way ;) Josh Hartnett, Lucy Liu, Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman and Ben Kingsley are the main Cast of that one

First time on the channel, glad you liked the movie, absolute classic for me. I love the tight script and smart foreshadowing for pretty much all plot points and the overall message, however bleak, is really well executed imo. Just wanted to commend the smart editing with resizing the camera portion of the screen to cover up things that YT might flag and all that, very well done ! If you enjoy dry and dark humor, i would recommend "The Voices" with Ryan Reynolds and Anna Kendrick, certainly not a viewer magnet, but well worth a watch imo. Hope you got your beer eventually :)
