@@chrissiereacts This movie was written and directed by famous playwright Martin McDonagh who has made several movies. This one is my favorite, but I would highly recommend Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri which he is probably most known for, it was nominated for a probably should have won Best Picture in the stupid shape of water year.

@@dancarter482 Joe Versus the Volcano, probably the existential film in a digestible package ever made-definitely the most existential romantic comedy. The Wizard, but that’s a purely sentimental reason. Not to mention, writing an analytical essay on how it dissects the modern nuclear family structure got me into NYU film school. I owe that film a lot, which is crazy considering it’s basically a 90 minute commercial for Nintendo. Lol

I don't know for you, but for me that scene hits hard not cos of seeing the graphic death of the boy, but because of Colin Farrells performance. Seeing him see that knowing he is responsible he draws you into that horrifying moment much more than anything, to the point where the boy doesn't even need to be on screen for it to be just as effective.
@pabloc8808
@pabloc8808 7 ай бұрын
The scene really sells the impact of ending a life via the contrast: the priest was dying for a reason, even if we didn't know why, it feels deserved, but the boy was just wrong place wrong time. And there's no taking it back even though it was just a stupid mistake

I think the metaphorical "killing of the child" to be an adult is a theme revisited here by most of the characters. The innocence, honesty, loyalty and humour of a child lost to the hardness of adult life is its own death. The real murder is the murder of the child inside. I mean if you want an essay on this, it wouldn't be difficult to write.

You can't do far wrong with Martin McDonagh (Writer/Director) of this film. His latest film Banshees of Inashiren has the same main actors. But he has also worked with Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell separately (The Guard and Severn Psychopaths respectfully). But, I would recommend Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri highly. Oh and the afore mentioned The Guard is quite the companion piece for this film.

I agree with some of your other viewers - “The Guard” is a really good Brendan Gleason movie. Kind of like “In Bruges” you will laugh and certain scenes will make you cry. I saw the “Banshees of Inisherin” I was not impressed. Not the same chemistry you see here. “Calvary” is another great Brendan Gleason movie - like “In Bruges” and “The Guard” it is another dark comedy. The last one I would recommend is “Snatch”. You should watch two more Brendan Gleeson films. Calvary and The Guard. Same dark humour. Great films

Chrissie! I've always meant to watch this movie; my mom actually loved this movie and was always telling me to check it out. I should have listened to mom! Now I'm shut out of the party! I'll try and watch it this weekend/soon and then catch up on this reaction. (PS: I changed my handle from Tic Toc Melody to this more generic name, but it's still me! :D I haven't/would never abandon the channel short of grim death!) (Incidentally, "Tic Toc Melody" is the name of a super rare early 70s song - I used to post rare records.....it had nothing to do with TikTok!)😄

I was about to tag you haha! I was going to ask if you've seen it because I genuinely think it would be up your alley (based on the movies you've talked about). No rush but once you watch it let me know what you think 😀

First time on the channel, glad you liked the movie, absolute classic for me. I love the tight script and smart foreshadowing for pretty much all plot points and the overall message, however bleak, is really well executed imo. Just wanted to commend the smart editing with resizing the camera portion of the screen to cover up things that YT might flag and all that, very well done ! If you enjoy dry and dark humor, i would recommend "The Voices" with Ryan Reynolds and Anna Kendrick, certainly not a viewer magnet, but well worth a watch imo. Hope you got your beer eventually :)

4:54 That's mean. I lost a bet because I was positive that it was Peter Dinklage that was in In Bruges.
