I love In Bruges, and find it very rewatchable. Everyone is on their A game not a bad performance in the movie. Even the unsung parts Thekla Reuten as the hotel owner and Zeljko Ivanek as the Canadian guy. You guys might like the Guard also staring Brendon Gleeson and written and directed by John McDonagh the brother of Martin McDonagh who wrote and directed In Bruges.

I think that one thing that you guys missed was why Ken was so dedicated to saving Ray. Ken didn't owe any personal debt to Ray. Instead, it's very clear that Ken has deep moral regrets about his career as a hitman. He telegraphs them throughout the film, like with the "lolipop man" conversation, or his explanation to Harry at the top of the tower. Ken sees Ray botch his first ever hit and realizes that he could just as easily have been in Ray's position at some point in his life, and he could be the one facing down Harry's wrath. He's willing to lay down his life because he feels that his soul is at stake. Ken needs to know that a man like Ray can be redeemed for his crimes, because if Ray can't be redeemed, then neither can Ken.

Martin McDonagh wrote and directed this, and if you're wondering why this film feels so unique, a lot of that is down to him. He's a playwright and a lot of his plays feel similar to this movie -- dark and slightly absurd humor with a third-act gut punch.

Martin McDonagh has become one of my favorite directors as I've moved through his filmography. While his newest movie, Banshees of Inisherin (reprising both of the main actors from this movie) was absolute amazing, I think my favorite might be Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. The cast is insane for that one.

Mad Eye Moody, Voldemort, and Fleur Delacour from Harry Potter, and Gellert Grindlewald from Fantastic Beasts... it's one of the joys watching actors from the UK. The quality of their talents puts them in so many productions before Hollywood gets to know them, that there's always brilliantly unexpected stuff in their back catalogues. I really loved this back when I watched it, and 100% agree with Mike - it's so oddly flawless there's no reason to go back and re-watch. I'm glad you had such fun watching it.

The Guard - Don Cheadle, Brendan Gleeson and Mark Strong. Similar humour and a masterpiece, might be funnier than In Bruges. I'd definitely recommend a re-watch of In Bruges, there's a lot of detail in there, excellent dialogue and it's beautifully shot. Stray note - Elizabeth Berrington, who plays Harry's wife is excellent, see Secrets & Lies.

When I saw the ads for this movie, I was eager to watch it because they only advertised it as a comedy. Imagine my shock when I realized this was an absolutely HILARIOUS movie--until suddenly it WAS NOT FUNNY. Honestly, I don't think this should be called "In Bruges". It needs to be called "Mood Whiplash: The Movie". That being said, I love this movie. It's so brilliant, everyone delivers the best performance they can possibly give, and it has one of the most fantastic stories about sin and penance and redemption I've ever seen.
