F1 is struggling for sponsors, especially for smaller teams and Haas saw what appeared to be a big opportunity and had to take it. If somebody offered you 35 Million would you take it? I think you have separate the Rich Energy saga from the car performance. The team will just keep trucking along, as prior to Rich Energy coming along. What the cars and uniforms look like in Germany is a minor detail in the grand scheme of things. Gene Haas has the money to keep it going fortunately. At the end of the day if Haas get the money, it doesn’t matter what’s written on the car, that is simply the pragmatic approach. Let the lawyers sort that out, while the team get on with racing. Great video, Aldas Unfortunately, for someone older who has “been there and done that” so to speak, this latest debacle does not really surprise or shame me as much as it perhaps should. F1’s history is littered with this kind of corruption and double-dealing: 1978/1982 - Lotus founder and engineering genius, Colin Chapman, had his legacy tainted by his double-dealings with US car manufacturer, John DeLorean, to the extent that Chapman’s premature death aged 56 was the only thing that spared him from a lengthy prison sentence. 1997 - Mastercard Lola collapsing and pulling out of F1 after one race where both cars DNQ’d. 1999 - TWR Arrows and its mysterious Nigerian Prince’s illusory sponsorship deal before the infamous email scam was a thing. 2002 - TWR Arrows wound-up in the High Court after a litany of disputes with drivers and suppliers and Tom Walkinshaw’s business methods personally criticised by the judge. 2008/2009 - the first Singapore GP tainted by Crashgate. And I will say no more about Flavio Briatore, Jean-Marie Balestre and Bernie Ecclestone, other than that their respective Wikipedia pages have sections dedicated to their controversies and murky dealings. For whatever reason, F1 seems to attract these kind of people.

I think Rich energy is going to be closed down after they've dealt with their creditors. I don't think renaming themselves means they are going to carry on as a different company, I think it's just to stop the media attention as they wind down. This was on Autosport the other day: Rich Energy's registered address was originally changed earlier today from Storey's Richmond base to a London company called The BDG Group. Shortly afterwards, a second piece of paperwork was logged which omitted the The BDG Group name, while retaining the same Notting Hill address. The BDG Group's involvement in Rich/Lightning Volt is unclear, however the company's website says that as the "UK's leading unlicensed Insolvency Practitioners we offer a genuine alternative to our clients which will give you a clean bill of health going forwards, your reputation will be intact, and we'll deal with all the outstanding issues." The website adds: "We will acquire your company and you can resign and let us handle everything from that point on. "Our team of lawyers, accountants and specialist negotiators will deal with everything, from preparing financial reports and negotiating with your creditors, to attending any necessary insolvency meetings. "We will present your former business and your role in it, to all your stakeholders in the most favourable light possible."

Rich Energy has an actual website now, and on there they show the Haas F1 car and the schedule. Also, Idk if they are actually making products now, but if you go to their shop on their page it claims their drinks are "Out of order" and that you can pre-order their drinks for 40 Euros. Who in their right mind would pre-order an energy drink... I think they did so much damage to their brand now that even if they started to make product, not many people will buy it.

Coming at this from the perspective of a NASCAR fan who follows F1, this seems like Gene Haas (who co-owns a NASCAR team) just accepted the sponsorship offer without doing his homework on the company. I've noticed that NASCAR owners are desperate to find sponsorship from almost anybody (not entirely their fault, NASCAR's business model is really bad) and Haas may have taken that approach here. A NASCAR example similar to the Rich Energy saga is the DC Solar/Chip Ganassi fiasco. I won't get into the details, but the end result was that Ganassi's Xfinity series program went under and DC Solar pretty much vanished. I just hope Haas F1 can avoid Ganassi's fate.

The posting of the email wouldn't be a data protection (or GDPR) violation because of a) the lack of personal details, and b) the only details offered are from the people posting the tweet. There is a possible breach of confidentiality though but once again it is the confidentiality of the person posting so it is probably moot.

Replace "Rich Energy" with "Thunder Muscle" and this could be season 4 of "The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret".

The Haas F1 business model for getting into F1 was to use as many Ferrari bits to the legal limit and re-brand it, Haas, so perhaps Rich Energy does the same with Red Bull.

Rich Energy and his owner just looks like some weird business-man-villain from a film tbh

Doesn't matter if Rich Energy™ is worth only $35 like you said. The story is that William Storey gave HAAS a _personal_ 35 million dollar guarantee. lf that's the truth he's on the hook for 35 Mil

I think his intentions were legit to begin with. He wanted to launch an energy drink company using motorsport to hype it first and then get the product out. Got investors involved like you do but he just didn't have the business acumen to pull it off. Basically a spiv.

I've never even seen a Rich Energy drink in a store anywhere in the US. I don't drink energy drinks because they aren't good for you but I haven't seen any of it.
