Great video Dan😀 i recently upgraded my alde control panel and watched your video several times before attempting the job. The battery back up is now on my list of jobs .

This is fantastic. I was not aware that a battery back up was possible and this is so simple to do. Why does this not come as a standard installation I wonder? Well done Dan done for bringing this to my and others attention. I was going to go down the panel upgrade route but think I will just try this first on the original panel installed. Thanks again for the clear and concise instructions.

Hi Dan, Great fix! I found the temperature control to be way out on these controllers due to the location it is installed in! There is a setback setting to compensate for this but it still is detecting the temperature within the cavity. There is a fix available to extend the sensor out into the caravan to make the temperature control more responsive. I've not got round to doing this but I believe the parts are available from Bailey spares but I'm sure you could find a way of making a cheaper alternative! Enjoying your vids, I only bought my van a short time ago and have found your advice very helpful. Regards Mike, Waiuku, NZ

Hi Richard, Give the battery back up a go - then see if you still require a new panel, personally i hated the older panel, i simply couldnt work it, the new one has made life a lot easier ! Take care Dan

Hi Mike, I will be showing how to extend cables in a simple yet effective way in a couple of weeks. I needed to extend the cables recently for the temp sensor and the load sensor too. Stay tuned, it will be out soon. Take care Dan

Hi Dan. Love your videos. I too, after seeing Alde's price for their version, built my own battery backup a few weeks ago. The only thing I did differently though, was to use self-adhesive Velcro strips to fix the battery box inside a cabinet which is above the Alde control panel in my caravan. I think this will make changing the batteries a little easier. I can just pull the battery box off the Velcro without the need to remove the Alde control panel and firkle about in the tight space behind it. I've also fitted the Alde load monitor to my boiler, so hopefully I won't trip the electricity supply when on sites with lower amperage supplies. Well worth doing. :)

ah yes, the load monitor and external temp sensor are both also installed - you will see these in future videos ;-) the battery should last for quite a while, so being able to replace the battery once every 3 years or so shouldn't be an issue - well done ! Take care Dan

Red is now brown, black is now blue. Or in four wire cable, blue is grey, red is brown and black is blue. Hope that is clear. We have Brussels to thank for that.

I’ve been following your videos as a new owner, and have learned so much - thank you! I have an issue with the Alde control panel? It doesn’t illuminate when the power is on? I’ve hooked up to 240v, switched on the master switch, turned on the pump, but no power to the control panel? I have been told that there are fuses in the actual heating system under the seat, but would the control panel not work if these have blown? I have a Bailey unicorn Seville 2011 Kind regards Amanda

Hi Dan, after watching your video, I ordered the battery box from Dennis, however t came with no instructions. So I watched video again and was a bit confused when you said the plug goes to J3 terminal as you showed. You later said it went to N terminal. The Alde Manual shows a wiring diagram which show the plug goes to J1. So you can see where the confusion comes in. I have a 3020 display panel.

Hi Colin, thanks for the message. On the 3020 panel, the correct connection is called JP1. have a look here: www.alde.co.uk/downloads/alde_3020_user.pdf#page=17 This was a slight change from the 3010 panel that you see in the video. I hope that helps. Dan

Hi, As ever, a nicely made little video. Keep it up! Could you please tell me, what type of connector is used to link battery to the back of the control panel. A “JST” perhaps?

Great vid as usual. Would there possibly be anywhere to put the back up where it is easier to change the batteries without having to unscrew it all every time? (Just wondering how many times you can unscrew etc before the holes get worn and you get loose screws)
@TheTrudgians
@TheTrudgians 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Cathryn, yes you can install the battery box anywhere, like poke a hole into a cupboard etc or have it within easy reach etc. Ive calculate that these 2 AAs should last about 2 - 3 years before they will need changing. Hope that helps. Dan

Hi. I have the older ALDE heating controller and the JP3 socket has four pins. Do you know to which ones I connect the battery backup? Thanks.

Hi Dan, I wonder if you can help as I am a little confused watching your video regarding the original control panel. You state in the video that the battery backup can be used on the original 3010 controller by plugging it into JP3. Alde sell a specific battery backup cable 3010-313 for JP3 and this connects to a 12v supply and not a 3v supply that 2 x AA batteries would supply. I bought a molex connector and battery holder and have tried it on JP3 and it does not work. Any suggestions? The link below shows the instructions that come with the 3010-313 cable:- picclick.co.uk/Alde-3010-313-Battery-Backup-Cable-Kit-162929143401.html#&gid=1&pid=3
