We often find our motorhome gets too hot at night and too cold in the evening. I believe the cause is the standard temperature sensor, mounted on the Alde panel. I bought an Alde temperature sensor, which can be fitted in another location and should give us a more accurate readings. I was prompted to fit the sensor after watching a video from ‪@CraftyCampervanners‬ where Pete fitted a Alde Discrete Temperature Sensor to their then, caravan.

Note: Alde's own video shows the discrete temperature sensor being fitted about 1 metre above the floor. For me that would have meant fitting it in the under bed locker, which probably would have resulted in damaging the sensor. So I choose a location above the bed, but not directly behind the TV. I'll let you know how well that works. I noticed that the temperature sensor for the Swift Command panel is in a similar position on the other side of the bedroom.

Pleased you got it working - makes much more sense to have it located where you want the heat to be set good that you can select it too. All the best, David 👍

It’s been on my to do list for a while so thanks for showing how easy it will be and hopefully you will have a more accurate internal temperature.

Hi Bob, great video as usual. Seems that all too many of us have the same issue. We have the same Swift as you but ours is the dinette version. After 18 months of badgering our supplier, we finally got them to sort this issue (as well as 6 other separate issues). The only way I managed to get all these issues sorted was by seeing the Company Director at the October 2022 NEC Show. He was not happy with my complaint and could see all my correspondence history (as evidence). I’m glad to say all issues have now been sorted. I suggest anyone having issues with the supplier ensure they keep exhaustive records of any dealings, and if you are not happy challenge them at one of their shows, it worked for us.

Hi Bob. We were experiencing a difference of at least + or - 7 degrees between the 2 panels situated above the habitation door (same location as yours). which I recorded on my phone as evidence on separate occasions. Therefore we programmed the Alde system with a minus 5 variation (maximum allowed). However for some reason late at night/early in the morning the 2 panels would record the same temperatures. Resulting in us being woken in the night as if we were in a sauna; in real terms the temperature had changed at least 12 degrees. Different temperatures were also being recorded between the bedroom sensor and the living area. I felt the the Alde panel may have been affected by heat emanating from the fridge. The remedy being = The bedroom sensor has been isolated from the Swift command system, with another sensor installed between both panels above the door and connected to the Swift command system. The Alde system can run separate zones which apparently can conflict with the Swift command system therefore Swift would only authorise the warranty update to the Swift system. No problem it’s far better now. Hope this helps.

Yes, thank you it does. It would also seem to suggest that the Swift temperature sensor has an affect on the heating as well, which I wasn't sure if it did. At least both my sensors are in the same place now, in the bedroom.

Hi Bob fitted one of these a few years ago as where the control panel was located in the Caravan was right next to where we would have the Kettel so it would always read hotter than what it was in the Van. i installed it lower down as the instructions I got said to install it no higher than 1m above the floor to get a better reading, just an observation.

Good you got some instructions! I would have thought it would be colder lower down. We'll see how we get on. At least it's no longer above the door!

Hi Bob. Great video thanks for that. Very useful. Just wondering if having the sensor above the radiator in the bedroom might effect how it reads though. Could you let us know how you get on with it as I would be interested in fitting one to our Alde system and would have it in the back room like you have.
@BobEarnshawMoHo
@BobEarnshawMoHo Жыл бұрын
It's a little bit away from the radiator, other people put it in the bottom of the cupboard above the radiators, which probably will affect it. Difficult to see where else to put it. I'll let you know how we get on with it.

Hi Bob, great video. I was surprised, that there was no Alde heating sensor in your Motorhome, especially the money we pay for these vans. Just a thought, would the heat from the TV give off a false reading?
@BobEarnshawMoHo
@BobEarnshawMoHo Жыл бұрын
There is a sensor built into the panel, but yes you might expect a sensor elsewhere. Don't think the TV gives off that much heat, but I'll let you know.

as usual bob very interesting,,bob could i ask ,,does your motorhome charge your cars battery up when towing ,,i have ordered a towaframe ,system now lnb in Bristol said i would need the electrics upgraded (autotrail and swift ) for there system as not compatible ,,the fitter at towaframe says i dont need any mods to the van electrics ..? i have been towing another car for 3 years never thought about charging the tow car,,thanks ,,,rob

No, the motorhome powers the lights on the car and the braking unit when hooked up so no need to charge the battery. There was no modification to van wiring. Can't think why you would need that.

@Bob Earnshaw me neither ..but a guy from Lnb towbars wants £245 extra for wiring upgrade to motorhome..so it charges the car battery...never went with them ..there system looks good though ...

I assume you watched my video on the Avtex AMR985. The reason I went with a fixed router was the lack of set up as opposed to a portable router. So far there have no occasions where we haven't had a signal, and we have been generally able to watch streamed TV. To be honest I was hoping for faster downloads and uploads. Did you watch Dan Trudgians video on it?

Hi Bob, Hope you,Jenny and poppy are OK. Do you find Aldi heating better, or would you happily go back to a Truma blown air system ?
@BobEarnshawMoHo
@BobEarnshawMoHo Жыл бұрын
They both have advantages and disadvantages. The Truma system warms up quicker, but the Alde provides a better all round heat. The Alde is more complicated and the Truma takes up more space with all the ducting. I wouldn't say it would be a deal breaker but given a choice I'd prefer the Alde system.

seems like a lot of faff for something that should work ok without any modification. Never had the heating imbalance that you are experiencing in any of our motorhomes/caravans.
