Hi Keith & Michelle, great video, but for me having had both, the Alde wet system is so much better and would never go back. Heat up times are comparable and no cold spots. My 10 year old Lunar had the vents you could control and I was always adjusting depending where I wanted the heat so it was always a compromise which the Alde you dont have to. 6 Years with blown air and 6 months with Alde and I know Alde I would chose every time.

Very interesting debate guys, thanks. We have a two berth end washroom Lunar Lexon with blown warm air via the Truma Ultraheat fire fitted beneath the wardrobe, a fairly classic layout found on many vans. I totally agree with your comments regarding the washroom being much cooler, and we plan to insulate our pipes, as they run under the van to the washroom like yours. We already have vents with flaps on, so shut the ones in the lounge area, which pumps more air to the washroom. What I did discover though, was if I open the wardrobe door, and look at the back of the fire where the fan is fitted, there is a lever that can be moved from left to right. Its an internal flap, that diverts the air from the fan to either the lounge area or the bathroom area. We moved it to give most of the air/heat to the bathroom, as we don't need blown heat in the lounge with the fire on. Works great for us, now all we need to do is crawl under the van and insulate the pipe!

Great video, one thing I would add, I thought the Truma system takes more of the underseat and bed space. The Truma unit we had on the Bailey was bigger than our Alde compact and the air hoses take up more space than pipes and radiators in the Alde system.

Great discussion guys. We have experienced both and ALDE is for us. The wet system in a motorhome is so much better and we are able to have the ALDE heating running whilst driving to preheat the entire system before arriving on site. We also use propane and hookup together if the system needs a quick startup. This can reduce the time taken for it to warm through the van. Having said that, both systems work well and we found there is very little difference in running costs. 👍🏻😄 Trev

Just come accross your channel...great video. With ours there seemed a lot of excess pipe especially to the washroom so i made the pipe straighter. Made the washroom toastie. Also i just use the gas when starting the heating once on site then switch the gas off after about 15 minutes and go to electric...works a treat.

We love our blown air too. As you say it heats up so quickly on site, and can cool down quickly also if need be. We love it. Our caravan actually came with the adjustable vent covers you show. They are great...should be standard really. Glad you found the fix and that it makes a difference. Nice video guys :)

I had a Coachman Laser with blown air which, I was living in year round, whilst working in Aberdeen. During the winter months it was purgatory trying to keep that van warm. Swapped it for a Vanmaster with central heating + underfloor heating. There is absolutely no comparison.

We are yet to experience Alde heating but both of our vans have had Truma and never had any issues regarding heat distribution. First Van was end shower/toilet and dressing/ wardrobe layout with butterfly vent to dressing area and our latest Van is fixed bed and adjoining toilet/shower with heating directly into shower. It gets SO hot in shower we use it as a wet room to dry our towels and coats/boots after a day in the British weather !

Had both in motorhomes and caravan. Prefer Alde in caravan because Truma (to me, your mileage may vary) can get stuffy after a couple of hours in the evening, especially in the shoulder seasons. However in motorhomes the Alde system was too weak in the area adjacent to cold metal cab, which may explain why Alde have now developed fan assistance for use at front of some motorhomes. Alde radiators in bathroom keep towels dry, and the warm Alde fluid reservoir in our wardrobe keeps clothes aired.

Hi keith and michelle.we have the blowair heating and have no issues with it.i have insulated the pipes externally and we already had those vents.i will be interested to see how they would work as cooling vents,as if it is too warm in the van i wouldnt imagine they would blow as the thermostat will keep the heating off.if you find it works could you show us that.cheers

Hi Thomas, We recently used the venting system on a warm day & we were pleased with the result. You do need to turn the heating & hot water off for the system to work, when you select the vent operation in the fan mode it does take a good ten minutes to cool down. We must stress it’s not in anyway air conditioning but is a good way to circulate cooler air. Hope this helps & thanks for watching, Keith & Michele

I have the Alde wet system in my caravan, my parents had blown air in their narrow boat. Both work well. The problem I initially experienced in my caravan is with the location of the heating temperature sensors. I had three choices of sensor; panel, bed area and lounge in the Alde control panel. The problem there being, initially unbeknown to me, is that there actually wasn't a sensor in the bed area. So, when selected the heating never cut off and we roasted. The panel thermostat is affected by the heat of the TV in my caravan layout, resulting in the heating cutting off too soon. This left the lounge thermostat, which is located in a little nook in the main control panel suround above the main door which is a stupid place to put it. After relocating this sensor so it's now in the lounge area, I get a far more constant and comfortable heating. One trick I found during cold spells was to get the heating on gas to get the van warmed up quickly and when it was up to temp switch to electricity. Steve :)

Hi Steve, In our previous caravan, which had the Alde system, we never felt the need to delve deeper into the control panel to adjust sensor settings. It’s a great tip for everyone to know should they need to modify the heat settings. On our current Truma blown air system, we always set it to mix 2 (electric & gas) on arriving on site. Hi guys, Just found this and it's a breath of fresh air. I have never seen why people want to spend more on a system that takes ages to heat the caravan, then ages to alter the temperature, and, crucially, weighs more because of the liquid and radiators. Our method is to blast air at full fan to warm the 'van through, then use the fan on slow, which maintains heat and is almost inaudible. It also means that when we turn the heat off (because we're in the awning with a fan heater and we don't want to trip anything), it's easy to bring the 'van back up to temperature when we move indoors.

Hi DJ Marshy, Assuming you are referring to the blown air heating, you do not need water connected. You just need the gas or electric connected for the element to heat up which then blows air through the caravan. Please ensure your water pump is switched off if water isn’t connected. Hi Keith & Michele. The vents are a good idea but sadly you can't leave them fully closed all the time. The best thing to do is close the one nearest to the boiler for 20 minutes until the bathroom pipe warms up and then open half way. Thanks for the mention. The insulation does work we where away last week and noticed a 40 percent difference. Best £20 I've spent. Great topic. Thanks Phil. 😀👍😀👍

Hi Guys we have a Swift Charisma 620 it’s twin axle and has blown air heating. At home we tend to prefer cooler rooms so when in the van we use the heating on convection alone and have a small oil heater to take the chill off the end washroom. We are always on hook up and find using the heating this way is okay even in October and February.

We've had caravans and motorhomes for over 25 years but never had Alde. We've just ordered a brand new Elddis 275 which has it fitted so we will be interested in doing the comparison. What I would say is a game changer is the Truma inet system which I've installed in our last two motorhomes and thankfully have removed it ready to fit in the new one as it's compatible with Truma blown or Alde wet.

Cool,. Never really thought about that. Just went with what the caravan came with. My wife and are temperature incomparable too. Same at home too. On balance I am not too bothered but the logical side of me would go for the simplest way. If I don’t need a pump &. liquid I would have air & a pump. I do like the pumping cold air idea too. Hi Rob, Yes we do caravan over winter & having experienced both types of heating systems available, we can honestly say the caravan is very warm & toasty, even in icy conditions. Great video and just shows how we are all different. 30 years of caravanning and our Hymer caravan is the first ALDE and wow so fast so warm amazing. I have chatted to people and found they are using as a blown air no time with ours we set the temp for day and night and the water day and night just like home. When we leave the caravan we can just turn it off or not and it has been working very well. Takes a few goes be holiday you may stay in bed longer or may be just weekend so you set those time very simple. I am happy you love your blown air because that is what matters for you. As a side note on my old Hymer Caravan at the back of the heater there is a direction peace so we just made that so the blown air when more towards the back James

I've had blown air twice now, and all my vent holes can all be open or closed from the factory, I do exactly the same and close the front two a little or a lot. You can also increase the fan strength from eco to high. I like the idea of lagging the external run.

Hi Keith and Michele, I fitted one of those vents as I have 4 in total in the van. My Truma manual says that you should only block off 1 out of 4 max. Do you think it OK to close 2 of them? I suppose some air still comes out, so it's not actually closing it off. Nice video

Great video Guys, we've got a 2019 dealer special and that's the vents that are fitted now, I saw the video from Lost weekends and insulated the external ducting, I can confirm shutting off front vents as well as the insulation, makes a massive difference, our van has the rear bedroom with middle bathroom. Great video 👍🏻 we also have gone from the wet heating to the blown air from Truma and find it very easy to use we also fitted the full Truma Inet system with gas level and that is also good as you can control all the heating and water from your phone, you said that you can use this on a vent setting can you tell me how to set it to the vent mode as I can't seem to find it on ours👍🏻

Hi Steve, To set the Truma system onto vent, firstly you need to select the central heating & turn to off. Then select the hot water & select to off. Then scroll along to the fan symbol & rotate to vent which will appear. Press the centre button to select the vent & rotate clockwise for the fan speed between 1 & 10. Then press the centre rotating knob to accept the settings. Please note, the system will start to blow air but if the hot water has been on, the circulating air will initially be warm but after 10-15 minutes you will get cooler air. A downside we have to using the vent on this system is that it totally cools down any hot water you have in the tank so it’s really best to use this system last thing at night when you’ve finished with the hot water. It does a great job of cooling down the caravan in our experience 👍🏻 Hope this helps, Keith & Michele.

Hi Guys, Having had both we can say in our experience, the Aldi system is good/better for distributing heat throughout the entire caravan including our rear washroom, the Truma system struggled a little to reach the rear unless we closed the front vents for a short period. Also, the Aldi system takes longer to heat up & cool down whereas the Truma is instant in both cases. To be honest, both have their pros & cons, we don’t mind either, but if pushed for a definitive choice, Keith would probably choose Aldi, Michele would choose Truma. It really is a personal choice. Always had blown air and was dreading wet which we had to have in our new van. I was right to worry, its noisy slow to warm, hard to control and makes all the wood around the beds creak and crack.

Ive just bought a Fiat Ducato with the True a system but a bit confused with the heating. Does the system have two heaters, one for the water and one for the central heating? Or does it need to be heating the water to let out warm air through the vents? thanks

Hi Greg, Assuming your Truma system is the same as ours, you do not need to have both systems on for one of them to work, they work independently of each other. Hope this helps, Keith & Michele.

Hi Keith and Michele, we have the standard Sprite Major 4SB. I have also insulated the external duct and changed the two front vents to the butterfly type. Running the heating on gas makes the bathroom even warmer especially in the winter months. We're really enjoying your blogs, keep em coming. Happy caravanning, Tony and Lynne

You see I don't have any issue my wife gets the house heating the same has the surface of the sun then when she gets to hot she opens the conservatory doors let's all the heat out same thing in the motorhome hot as the sun then opens the door because she is to hot bless her little cotton socks

I always take a small electric fan heater if it's hot we turn fan to cold air.

I think the concern came from the whale under floor mounted blown heating. I used to have a lunar and when the heating was on it sounded like a jet engine. Especially on gas as running on that the heating was either on full blast or off. No quite mode unlike the new truma combi

Hi Phil, We absolutely love, love, love the blown air system! Wouldn’t go back to wet central heating. When set on eco or low fan speed, you can hardly hear it. In winter months we leave it on all night & you don’t notice it. In warm weather you can use it cool/vent the caravan...another bonus 😀 It also heats up within a few minutes which is superb. Of course, if the fan speed is set high, it’s will be more noticeable, like any fan. Our caravan is a 2018 model, so older models may vary & be noisier. Hope this helps 👍🏻 Keith & Michele.

We don't tend to use our caravan during the colder months, but we still use the blown air heating. Did know there were replacement vents available deffo put them on our shopping list, Karen's nodding her head in agreement with ladies of a certain age, they get called tropical moments in our house. Interesting vlog Keith & Michele, our last van was blown heating but it was a 2006 van with a fire, I would guess that that wasn’t as efficient as the new Truma heating system. As you know we now have Alde heating and we love it, not sure I would change back. We don’t find it takes too long to heat up as we run it on gas first then hook up when it’s warm. I’m sure this is a debate that will be discussed until the cows come home 😂 Cheers Martin 👍

The reason the caravans don't have restricting airflow fitted to caravan air system is to allow airflow as not doing so will damage the motor also having heat traveling back to the boiler and damaging the pipe work as this becomes brittle. There should be at least one vent left permanently open to stop this happening.

Really? Here in Germany air flow vents are standard and i have never seen a caravan without then (Alde excepted!). We had the same debate with our current Hobby Premium as our old van was cold at one end (we used a portable fan heater if needed). In our current van the heater is in the middle so heating is even as the layout is even. Hearing your comments about time delay/lag then i and half were stuck with gas fire and blown air. It's also nice that when traveling and you stop for lunch you can whack on the fire! Also in the summer the blown air on low compliments the air con.

Sandra Westley there’s no question in my mind which is best Alde, once you’ve had it you would not go back to blown air, we could never get our van warm enough even on cool days never mind cold days. Our Son has blown air, and he used our van last year, he said it was just fantastic a complete game changer. Our friends have just changed there van and it’s got the Alde system, there verdict was, if we had known how good it was we would have changed our van years ago. So don’t listen to all the blow air ballony there’s no comparison.
