I lived in a student dorm in Lichtenberg, Berlin and aldi, netto, lidl and rewe were all pretty equidistant for me. Aldi was the closest. Though I always preferred lidl. Even over rewe. Though after a while you develop a roadmap of which store is better for what. I went ro rewe only for cheese, milk and ready to eat foods. And this insanely cute cashier that I *still* have a crush on though its been 3 years since I left Berlin. Lidl for produce and most other raw materials. The aldi near me was DEPRESSING though that particular branch had some of the best croissants I ever had in any store. So I went there for those. And I went to netto pretty much never ever 😆

Great video. Very informative. I like the way you cover this topic. One idea for you is food preferences by country. Like in the US, juice preferences are orange, apple, & grape. I hear carrot juice is popular in Germany. All countries have their preferences. Fav veggie broccoli 🥦 or cabbage 🥬
@julinbelle Жыл бұрын
Apple and orange juice are the popular choices in Germany, followed by grape and multivitamin (fruits + carrots) probably. Carrot juice is sold here but I've never actually seen anyone consume it, so I don't think it's that popular?
I love that you can make every topic seem interesting, funny, and engaging! I hope you will keep making videos, Erika! Have a great day.

I learned something new. I heard about Trader Joe's in the early 2000s at the same time everyone in my area was talking about Whole Foods. I always thought Trader Joe's was associated with Whole Foods, a smaller version. Turns out. It's not. So, I will stop avoiding this discount store, especially since it's similar to Aldi. Thank you for improving my knowledge about my local stores in Georgia, United States.

Small correction, Aldi Sud is a pretty recent entrant to Italy and they go by the "Aldi" branding. The "Hofer" mark might be used in Sudtirol/Alto Aldige which is the German speaking region in the northeast of Italy. There are not as many Aldis in Italy compared to Lidl who is the big leader followed by Penny and then Italian discounters like Eurospin and MD Market. The three big German discount chains have been expanding rapidly in Italy. I tend to split between Lidl and Penny depending on which is closest to me at the time.

I watched this to see what other people thought about the two super markets. Our ALDI closed for refurbishment so went to lidl instead. I definitely prefer Lidl because the shop was tidy well organised and the isles were wider . Our local ALDI has constantly blocked narrow isles with staff filling shelves in multiple places at the same time. You also have to watch out for staff flying out of stock room doors at 30MPh / 50kph with a pallet truck . Lidl definitely felt nicer and more inviting. 🇬🇧

Very astute observations - making your videos high quality and educational to watch! Content-wise, you already mention that many of the discounter brands are just absorbing the overproduction of the more known brands. I.e. that quality-wise, the only real difference is the packaging. My personal preference is that no music is even better. Also, it means no annoying announcements 😉

In the Netherlands finding a cheap supermarket hard. Allot of them have discount brands and sometimes the discounts brands from a high end supermarket is actually cheaper. But obvious, they do that to get you there and spend more money on other expensive stuff. I remember 4 years ago or so, that the lidl was actually the most expensive when it comes to discount brands in all of the supermarkets. So yeah its difficult to make a choice.
@j7ndominica0514 ай бұрын
I don't see any issues with the aesthetics or selection. It looks like a normal supermarket to me. Except if I wanted to find some rare import good like vegemite or spam, the basic ingredients is all I need. The goods are still basically on shelves. The boxes are barely there. They are not like brown cardboard on the floor (except sometimes). I don't like the treasure aisle. Those cheap plastic items will only last a year. I didn't know Trader Joe's was related. Is it true that Security Guards watch you more closely in Lidl? Steep tea until all of it is extracted and compress the package between two teaspoons when done. Add sugar. Then it will more than "a bit" of flavor. Music in stores is an annoying noise when it mixes with other sounds. There are too many supermarkets. We are spoiled with choice.

Lidl is great here, I shop there all the time. So cheap 😄 But quality is great, at least here in Sweden. They sell many local Swedish vegetables, meat,eggs and stuff. Even organic tofu. I think Lidl concept is a good one, but yeah long lines almost always... I swear, no matter when I go there it's packed with people, that's the only annoying thing, compared to my other local store. Music in food stores? We don't have that in Sweden, thankfully. I would be superannoyed at that.

Was this a Raffaello liquer at 3:33 ??? 😳 also totally agree for Aldi in foreign countries...I visited one in the Netherlands and it was kinda depressive 😞 although when we had aldi in Greece some years before (because they didn't last long and close all of their stores 😢) they were really welcoming !!! 🥺 And if i remember well in greece they had the orange logo while the one i visited in the Netherlands had the blue logo 🤔 Also had no idea that Trader Joes were brothers with Aldi 😳 And finally how goooooood and cute is your editing and animations 😍 once again loved it !!! 🤝👏 and thank you for all the infos and searching and comparing 🥺❣️ ps my favorite vegetable will probably be avocado if that counts as a vegetable 😅🥑

At least in Germany Aldi North, South and Lidl are very, very close in: price, quality and offered items. Most if not every product of their own shop brands are as good if not better than Name Brands. Where you shop depends on your personal preference. Some prefer Lidl’s Coffee, others Aldi‘s Pizza. It really depends on your own choice. In the end the difference is really small. I shop in all of them alternately (different items) as they are all in the vicinity.

The no music thing is a major reason to shop at a discounter. Music is dangerous. ANYTHING could play. Even cognitohazardous garbage. Even if the music is nice, which rarely happens, it's much nicer to not have that constant background noise straining my mind. Truly, the discounter is the autist's best friend.

No music? Lidl US has music .. my breakdown of American versions , aldi feels cheap, lidl is weird and Trader Joe’s is up there with Whole Foods .. lidl in ny bought out a grocery chain called best market, and that gave them an advantage.. aldi and Trader Joe’s don’t have license to sell alcohol but lidl does because of the grocery chain they bought..lidl ny also has a fresh sliced deli department with land o lakes meats and cheeses in the bakery..also near me there is 4 lidl to 2 aldi .. ny lidl also do not require a quarter to use a cart.. I’ve been to aldi in Vermont and New Hampshire and they have that icky dollar store vibe , but they sell booze and I love their irish cream and wines..don’t get me wrong, I always will love aldi , been shopping there for 10 years , but lidl has them beat.. the stores are double the size of aldi, they sell beer and I love the fresh bakery and deli land o lakes cheeses

in the US, Aldi has no in-store bakery but tends to be cheaper than Lidl and the stores all seem to have a similar layout, I find Lidl usually has larger stores with more products and more name brands (and a bakery), but the stores are difficult to navigate and have a more cluttered feel with boxes displayed set at odd angles in the middle of the aisles; almost feeling like a hybrid of an Aldi and a standard grocery store. I enjoy shopping at both, as well as Trader Joe's.
