I had an AK for around a year and have now upgraded to a Kamado Bono.... Noticeable differences - Top vent is heavier and doesnt close everytime u close open the lid, bottom vent on the AK never seemed as though it was aligned correctly, the thickness of the AK isnt as big as the KB. Ash catcher works really well and overall build quality is alot better. Also the amount of accessories you receive it is a very Noticeable upgrade.

Just got a 2022 Aldi Kamado and it does have a second half moon grill to give 2 levels. My delivery was free.

I think you mean the grill extender. This is a useful tool. The multi level grill in the bono has more options then the AK. I believe aldi are now running a free delivery promotion too.

@@BBQLIFE I’m a beginner to all this :-) And I think that is exactly where the AK sits. Cheap enough to dip your toe. If the bug bites, save your pennies and you will know what matters to you when you go look at upgrades. Thanks for your videos - I’ll be studying your back catalogue :-)

I bought an Aldi Kamado in April this year and I’ve just had to send it back, because the internal fire bowl cracked below the heat expansion slot after the 8th use. Unfortunately Aldi couldn’t replace it until September, so I decided to get a refund. I think I’ll definitely look into getting the equivalent sized version from Kamado Kings soon, the reported upgrade in quality and the life time guarantee (I’m guessing that only covers ceramic parts) is a nice addition.

Good video. I ordered an AK on 25th may purely after watching your videos for a while... it only turned up last week after getting emails saying it was getting dispatched twice and then another email saying their was problems... when I built it the deflector plate was broken in the box, aldi now want me to send the whole thing back even though it’s useable without the deflector and won’t let me just send the broken deflector back to them! Also said their was supply issues so my replacement might not be delivered for weeks/ months! Their product is good for the money but the customer service isn’t! Use the sun as a backlight then use anything big and white ( poly boards, white sheet or a dust sheet ) to bounce in some soft frontal light

@@BBQLIFE ok you can either shoot it the other way round probably not idea, shoot it at a different time of day again maybe not possible or deal with the frontal key light ( sun ) so if your stuck with the sun you can try to diffuse it or flag it off altogether again depending on the angle both can be hard, either way you need a frame to stretch the Diffusion to or black cloth to flag the sun. It’s easy for me is I’m a lighting cameramen so spend all day doing this. You will never ever look great in bright direct hard light. It also makes the background look dark ( bright subject lens stops down ) background dark. You can get luck if you have a look at the sky and can see some clouds about. All in all it’s often better and easier to just film it at a different time.

This is the issue. I can't film during the day because my neighbours are noisy, dogs barking, motorbikes so I have to do it while they are quiet. Ie 7am just as the sun comes over the houses. ☹️

@@BBQLIFE ok so basically you’re stuck with the sun 🌞 when the sun ☀️ is out. On the plus side the problem will go away in the winter 🥶 as it will be dark at 7am. That’s a whole load more work with lights. If the sun isn’t high in the sky and it’s not at 7am you might be able to just hang something between you and the sun ?? Maybe 🤔. If not life’s to short to worry about it.

I had the AK since Jan 2019. Yes kamado kings a d the company who's media range fit the AK. The new kamado is a bigger size so all accessories are new

A bono grande is the same size as kj classic 2 for less money but as you say the classic 1 is now cheaper. You will get a better gasket and wooded shelves and handles on the bono. So they look nicer Than the classic

Hi Tom, brought my aldi kamado 10 days ago, cooked 3 times on it after stringently following your many videos from scratch and I now find that the firebowl has cracked. In your experience is this something yhst happens often and is aldis customer service willing to supply a new bowl ? Impressed but frustrated as I love it

Unfortunately this seems to be a common problem this year. You can still use it unless it's broken in 2 speak yo la hacienda and you can claim a new one under warranty. However they are out of stock at the moment

Great video, I mentioned B4 that I bought a Boss grill EQXXL instead of a ALDI Kamado, however I received the grill set of the Bono plus an additional grill and stone deflector. Proof that your videos are fantastic.... I have a pot holder and never knew that, that was its purpose 🤦🏻

Thanks for the Vid, the bono looks great. I’ve been ummin and arrrin about getting a Kamado but my Weber kettles (57cm and Smokey Joe) are still going strong and they are 25 years old! I did a 7 hour Lamb shoulder cook today on the 57 and the temps were rock solid at 125c and only used 3/4 of the snake, I’ve also made a SS deflector plate for both BBQs for indirect cooking. I know the Kamado will use less charcoal but the cost difference in the systems are vast, I haven’t discounted getting one but need convincing they are 7 times more efficient. I look forward to your further vids on the Bono, hopefully that will convince me, thanks for taking the time to produce good content.

End product no not at at after all a kamado is a kamado. The process of getting there is nicer and the extra space is wonderful

I have had to replace my Aldi Kamado and there is an issue with the slide vent on the new one, which is really annoying. Moreover, Aldi customer service is very trying. The life time guarantee on the Bono is a real bonus and hopefully their customer service is better than Aldi’s as well. Nice review 👍
