Prices are better at Aldi, but it’s the quality of the food that makes them stand out to me. Meats, cheeses, desserts and produce are exceptional.

After a long period of reluctancy, I finally decided to give Aldi a try three years ago. I've been doing 90% of my grocery shopping there ever since. But I never noticed the oversized barcodes on their packaging until I watched this video. Lol!

This is a very insightful and well presented video. More people should see this as a lot of people look down on Aldi simply because they don't know much about the companies practices.

This is so funny to me! It's always the people griping, who have no idea what they are talking about, and are totally uneducated on the subjects that they insult! Research PEOPLE! Then you can make an "educated" judgement! Gossip is evil! This is a great video! If you pay close attention to what the lady says in the tour, Aldi has contracts with well-known manufacturing companies for most of their products! It's mostly name-brand products with different (Aldi) labels, i.e. Delmonte, Libby, Kraft, Totino, Kraft, etc. This is the same concept as any "Generic Products" that you buy in any grocery store that has a generic label. You may be more familiar with other Generic Labels like, Best Choice, Always Save, etc. I've been shopping at Aldi's in Marshall, Missouri, for about 30 years. I have saved a ton of money there, so that I could raise my 9 children and spend my money on other things. You don't need coupons to save money at Aldi! It's awesome!

Their loss, our gain. Once I learned about Aldi I try to buy everything I need there. Unfortunately they don't have everything, but I believe they are working towards that whilst retaining their price advantage.

In Germany the cashiers are rotating very fast while they are also responsible for filling the shelfes. Ever tried to do some shop lifting? I see your point, but not everyone agrees. I don't mind GMOs. It shouldn't be the store's place to decide what is best for their customers. They should only remove items that they personally don't wish to carry, so if the store has no issue with GMO, then it should be their call not to remove it.

I do most of my shopping at aldi now. They have the best chocolates right from Germany, they have awesome cookies and other snacks, those veggie root chips you eat at the end are delicious, they just have great products. They don't have as much products as a regular giant grocery store so if you want a wide selection of stuff like hot sauces, rice, international food items, you're not going to find that at aldi. But for the every day stuff they're great.

I live in a smaller, rural area about 2 hours Southwest of Chicago, so ours isn't as big. My dad used to stop in our local Aldi for a few items some 30 years ago...back when all they carried were canned goods & cheap soda. I really started shopping there about 17 years ago because their produce was always so much better than the other stores in town. Their oranges were so good. (Always disappointed when I paid for dry, mealy, sour oranges.) That led me to shopping there for a lot more items. It's a try & buy...you may not like some of their branded items vs. the name brand, but you'll for sure find many that you do. It's so worth it & can save you a lot of money. They've really amped up their items & quality in the past couple of years, too. I do the bulk of my shopping there & then fill in w/ the other stores where needed. They've even gotten much better toilet paper now, too...just like the name brand...one more thing I can get there...yea!! I've gotten my sister that lives in a suburb of Chicago shopping there, too. She's an avid Aldi fan for a few years now. Whoot-Whoot! Love saving money & running across their non-regular treasures you're also sure to find.

Aldi is German and also has owned Trader Joe's in the US since the 80's. ;)
@Velerios8 жыл бұрын
That's not exactly right. Aldi Nord (Aldi North) owns Trader Joe's while Aldi Süd (Aldi South) owns the Aldi Stores in the US. Aldi means Albrecht Discount. In the 1950 the two brothers had a different view how the stores should be and so they split up. Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd are 2 completely different companies, only the name is the same. Aldi Nord took the north of Germany while Aldi South went to the south until now. And except in Germany and in the US they are never both in the same country. It's the same Family, but they are still completely different companies.

Why do they have PLU codes instead of barcodes on their produce. Barcode are clearly quicker to scan..... Flawed logic.
@TheStarStrangled9 жыл бұрын
+Michael Fairley I work there, and we don't scan produce, we have codes memorized for each produce item. That way as soon as we see a produce item we just type in the code and press enter, simple as that. :) It's actually much quicker, especially once you get to used to it. Though at the beginning it's definitely a bit intimidating having that many numbers to memorize. Lol.
@erikawilliams62048 жыл бұрын
becayse produce is by weight not a set price. you cant capture weight if you just scan a barcode. so we put said prode on the scanner/scale and enter the PLU.

In Austria Hofer = Aldi IS on almost every street corner, at last in my city. One if about 5 minutes away from me, another one about 10, another one about 15 - 20, a second one 15 - 20, oh, and there is even a third one that is 15 - 20 minutes away. They are almost everywhere here. And most people who go there go for those specials they get every Monday and Thursday, sometimes it can be certain food items, even name brands that they have until they run out and then maybe half a year or a year later they have them again. But most of the time it's things like clothing, kitchen items, yarn, things for school and office, seasonal decorations, even small furniture, etc. I don't find a lot of food that I like there, but like to browse their specials, and that's also what they really make their money with because they are not really much cheaper than when you buy them somewhere else or might even cost about the same, certain items though are definitely cheaper. But if you see something that you need then you won't really compare prices if you have 10 of their stores in walking distance.

Check out Bar codes on Aldi products This is worth knowing, so take the time to read this, especially the 2nd bit.... A week or so ago, Current Affair did a Report on frozen vegetables imported from New Zealand. As it turns out if it is a Coles or Woollies home brand there is a more than good chance that the product has come from China. Products made by McCain’s, Birdseye and other supposed reputable companies from New Zealand are now purchasing vegie products from China and selling that product under their name. Basically check where it is produced by the comments on the back of the pack and if it says produced from New Zealand and Imported product it has Chinese vegies in it, put it back on the shelf. I would even go as far as to say, even if it has product of New Zealand on it, I would be suspicious about where those vegies in that pack come from. I suppose to play it safe unless it has been grown and packed in Australia stay away from it unless you don’t mind digesting poisons. Pretty scary stuff!! Learn from BARCODES This will cheer you up, hope you're not having chicken for dinner Please remember.......the Australian barcode prefix is 93 PLEASE NOTE - if you love Australian produce and the thought of keeping jobs here, AND you like to eat healthy foods and buy quality products, then please read on. Please also note the Australian barcode prefix is 93. DANGEROUS IMPORTED FOODS There are no food inspection regulations of foods grown or processed in China, Vietnam, Hong Kong or Thailand. Other world countries are scared of China making 'black hearted goods’, but can you differentiate which one is made in Australia, the USA, The Philippines, Taiwan or China? For your Information ... The first 3 digits of the barcode is the country code where-in the product was made. Example: all barcodes that start with 690; 691 through to 699 are all MADE IN CHINA. 471 is Made in Taiwan . This is our right to know, but our governments and related departments never educate the public, therefore we have to RESCUE OURSELVES. Nowadays, Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products 'made in china', so they don't show from which country it is made. However, you may now refer to the barcode. Remember, if the first 3 digits are 690 through to 695, then it is Made in China. Don't forget, Hong Kong is now China, too. 00 ~ 13 USA and CANADA 30 ~ 37 FRANCE 40 ~ 44 GERMANY 49 ~ JAPAN 50 ~ UK 57 ~ DENMARK 64 ~ FINLAND 76 ~ SWITZERLAND and LIECHTENSTEIN 93 ~ AUSTRALIA 628 ~ SAUDI ARABIA 629 ~ UNITED ARAB EMIRATESs 740-745 ~ CENTRAL AMERICAa All 480 Codes are Made in THE PHILIPPINES.. DO NOT BUY FOOD PROCESSED IN CHINA, HONG KONG, VIETNAM or THAILAND!!! Remember, there are no food inspection regulations!!! WATCH WHAT YOU BUY. ESPECIALLY 'HIGHLINER' FISH PRODUCTS; all come from China, even though the box says 'product of Canada', it is from China and'processed' in Canada, that is, only the coating is added and packaged in Canada. The fish are raised in pens using chemicals that are banned in Canada as cancer-causing but legal in China. This was exposed on CBC TV's 'Marketplace'. Please think before buying anything from China. Avoid buying all processed food packaged in China. Anything goes! We just don't know what else is in those packages. Unlike the United States and Canada (and Australia, Germany, France, Italy, Great Britian et al). China does not have laws regulating food processing. Basically, do not buy any processed food from China. This includes Hong Kong. MANY companies are using a Hong Kong address to avoid this type of image reputation. Send to as many people as possible. Do NOT buy food originating in China (or Vietnam or Thailand)! Take the time to read the labels and look for country of origin! Your Health is at Stake! REMEMBER THE AUSTRALIAN BARCODE PREFIX???? IT IS 93
