Leaving the quarter in the cart or asking someone walking in the parking lot if they need a cart is always my random act of kindness at Aldi. I've had people say that they'll pass it on. :)

Yes indeed. I always offer my Aldi’s cart to someone in the parking lot.

I do this as well or just leave it by the main cart section outside so someone can enjoy a free cart.
@uweschroeder2 жыл бұрын
@@stacyrussell460 The carts are free - you just have to return them. That's the point of the system. Leaving the cart with the coin in it will have the next homeless take the cart and wheel it off to who knows where and these carts cost over $100 each, so you'll be paying for the lost carts in the future.
@veggielovinaccountant2 жыл бұрын
I do this also. And I always tell them to pass it on. Also, I had someone try to give me two dimes and a nickel once - smiled and said no it’s yours. (Also, if you are ever in that position, the checkers inside will give you a quarter.)

Guys, it’s a German concept. All our supermarkets have that little thing where you need to put 50 cents or 1 Euro coin in in order to take it out of the cart pile. That way we never have issues of shopping carts on parking lots. Everybody want their money back and return it ;-) also there are some small plastic or metal chips in the right size of a coin that you can use on your keyring. so even when short of change and you have no quarter or 50 cents to enter, you can use that key chain thing to get your cart. And of course you return it because you want your key chain thing back. Easy system, no more mess.
@venusgal27062 жыл бұрын
Lol I love Aldi and have for year but I don't return the cart for the quarter nor am I worried about the quarter. I just do it because they use the quarter to encourage cart return. I know they don't need to hire people to go out and get carts or have someone for that particular job and that they want them returned and chained. At a regular grocery store, on the other hand, I know they send an employee out as part of his or her job to get the carts out of the corral and then I don't return them but only to the corral, I don't want the employee losing job security. It's just being decent and doing as the store wants :) I can live without the quarter and in fact usually hand my cart off to someone heading into shop for free.

Yeah, it's also funny to see people complain in the areas that now have to charge for a plastic bag. In Germany plastic bags cost 20 pfennige (cents) when I was a kid - we're talking 70s here. The cart with the coin is such a good idea. If all American stores would do that they could not only save a lot of money from carts not stolen, they also have the customers returning the carts to a defined spot, thus requiring less people to push carts around. But of course, returning a cart is inconvenient in this country and therefor forcing it would be bad customer service and too much to ask from the average shopper. (end sarcasm)

Ah, the Aisle of Shame! Caw caw 🤣. There’s even a Facebook page where things are discussed…..is this good! My local Krogers have curtailed somewhat their Clearance (compared to yours) so Aldi has the lowest prices for me. But IMO the best thing about Aldi is their small footprint. I can get in, get what I need, check out (they are super fast at checkout), and get to my car in record time. Other grocery stores are so big that I wander and spend too much time! Also, you need your own bags at Aldi. But I use the heavy, canvas tote bags from LL Bean and Lands End (collected over the years from garage sales). Perfect.

I live in Poland and I usually shop at the Aldi store. At the beginning, it was a store mainly for older people (they still offer a lot of products that grandparents like, e.g. certain types of cold cuts, jams, chocolates by weight, etc.), but last years the company has been investing in marketing and changing its image. At Aldi, they make sure that there are no long lines. They attach great importance to the cleanliness of the store. You could say that it is this German precision and love of order. Thanks to this, purchases go faster. As for the products - as you said, some prices are good, some are normal, and some of the products are quite expensive (textiles, household appliances, what's in baskets). But it's good, because you buy only what you came for, and not dupes :D
