We started buying spiral sliced ham for sandwiches instead of deli ham. $1.49 a pound(or less on sale!) versus $10.99lb and we get slices, chunks for soup, and a ham bone out of it. Definitely worth it

Hmm, to be honest I can’t remember. What I remember most was her impressive haul. Good question! I realize I could have made a faulty assumption about her. We’re all making assumptions everyday whether we like it or not, but cool if you to point that out as I could always use an opportunity to challenge what I think I know. And if nothing else you might have a part in keeping me from turning into my mother-in-law. And for THAT, I thank you!

My kids are preteens and growing like weeds too. I have resorted to stocking hundreds of Kind bars and GF protein granola bars (all from Costco) that my girls can bring to school or leave in their sport bags as snacks. During softball season, and especially at all day tournaments, we as a family of 4 can go through 40 bars in a weekend.

It's funny, because you see someone else's cart and think, well that person lives alone. Not to do with groceries, but my mother was a hoot. Hi Christine. I would love to see the once a month grocery haul with the budget tally. Personally, I think $437 for the month of January for a family of 6 is excellent! @@wendoxia I have to agree with Robin. This is how I roll, too. I keep a stocked pantry, stocked freezer, and grocery shop twice per month and rarely need to run to the store in between. I meal plan, use up what I have and keep it rolling. With prices being what they are now (at least I know they've gone up in Canada) I find it very realistic for a family of six. Christine did a great video long ago about creating a starter pantry for students just starting out and compared from Walmart and Dollar Tree. It was really great. If you dont already work from a pantry/stocked freezer that would be a great place to start. There are also great older videos where Christine only cooked what she shopped with on a tight budget.

Love your haul. When I was a struggling single mom, making too much to get food assistance, and no child support, I often had just $20 for groceries a week With two teens (stomachs that walked)I learned the time of day my two local grocery stores marked things down, I learned to freeze milk, and always had fresh fruit and veggies. Lots of trimming, and lots of banana bread…lol. I also shopped at the bread discount store. On Wednesdays they sold garbage bags filled with everything imaginable. It was sold for chicken feed. No, REAL chickens! But was fine for peeps (can’t help myself). Once a month I would buy 2 for $6. And store in my freezer. Never heard of the teas, but I love peach tea! Would love to try!

I've lived your life too. Two children, deadbeat dad after we divorced, no help, no child support but I did it all, worked for a pretty low wage but apparently too much for most assistance which I wouldn't take unless I had to anyhow. No other parent to help in any way, it was me 24/7 and work on top of it. I love her frugal tips here but I already know how to make a dollar stretch in a food budget just as you do but times change and prices too so I watch for that reason and she is fun and does a variety of shows. I don't think I need to say more other than to say I know how hard it is with like a $20 grocery budget for a family (and that's even having to cut other bills at times or go without something else to even have $20). Two children as well. Kudos to you. You made it through. So did I.

@@sams517 Yes! It was a bread discount store. When the discount bread reached the “sell by” date it had to be pulled from the shelves for sale for human consumption, The bags would have bread (sliced white, wheat, rye, etc,) it was past the sell by date but we all know how long a loaf of bread is edible if stored properly (never lasts that long in my house) I . Rolls, single package pastries, etc. it was sold for animal food, and called chicken feed”. Rarely breads might be stale but I used it for toast, croutons, bread crumbs or I found wrapping stale bread in a damp paper towel in the microwave for a few seconds could revive it (if I absolutely had to have a soft slice, there’s always one picky kid who won’t eat PBJ on toast…LOL). It was A LOT of bread. Some months it was more than I could store so I shared it with other folks. I still go once in a while, usually around the holidays when I know I will be making recipes that need dry bread (stuffing, dressing, bread pudding, etc)

This was so interesting! I notice that if I'm being super careful about utilizing my pantry/freezer JUST our food can cost as little as $30-50 a week for just my husband and I. HOWEVER... I've also noticed that since I started doing KZbin videos I've been buying a lot more "recipe" ingredients which has definitely increased our food budget over the last several months. I can't emphasize enough how important it is for people on a budget to shop their pantry/fridge/freezer FIRST when making a weekly meal plan. You do an awesome job keeping yours stocked and your budget really does show that!! Awesome video as always!!

I am a professional grocery shopper and here are a few tips for you. When ordering, you can add notes to items. For avocados for example tell the shopper if you are using them today or a few days from now. Also if you need green bananas or ripe ones. For your cauliflower example let them know this is a main dish not a side dish so please select the biggest one. If you are cooking a certain recipe and need a specific thing like 1.25 lbs of meat let them know that. Also a lot of people say no replacements but if you just ask for chat photos, the shopper can send you a picture of what is available and you may see something on the shelf you would like instead. Lastly know what things weigh. A lot of customers ask for silly things like a 1lb watermelon or squash. If you really saw what 1lb of grapes where you would never order that little.

In 2018 when I first opened my daycare my grocery bill was around 250$ a month (Family of 2 adults + babysitting 6 kids a day). In 2021, my grocery bill has reached as much as 665$ a month (Family of 2 adults and 2 children under the age of 3 + babysitting 4 kids a day). I make more food from scratch than I did before and shop almost only sales (I built a food pantry at the beginning of the pandemic and restock only with sales). It's crazy how much it has gone up I can't believe it. For 2022, my goal is to go vegan for lunch in order to save on meat, and move to dried beans instead of canned ones. This summer we are getting chickens and building a garden for the first time!

With my oldest we used to look at food magazines from the library and have him pick out meals by photos. I am looking forward to when my 1 year old is able to help pick what's for dinner once he's a bigger toddler. As of now watching him eat the random things has been entertaining to say the least.

I've seen a few "food budget experts" and they all say you should spend $100.00 per person. So your family would spend $600. That is to include all cleaning stuff, shampoo, soap everything. So your doing good.

We make homemade chorizo with Ground pork, apple cider vinegar, cumin, paprika, chili powder, oregano, salt and pepper. It’s really good and taste much better than the store bought tube kind.

When my boys were teens, they each got assigned a day of the week to make dinner. Sometimes I was hesitant to eat what they came up with, but in the end, they all learned to cook and no family members were lost in the process. :)

We buy organic for everything possible. Basically if I can’t find organic, I don’t buy it or I make it myself. $800 is my budget, and I struggle. I have a small surplus and no backup meat. I think you did great for non organic. God bless 🙏🏼❤️

This is why I love your videos! As a stay at home mom, one income, feeding a family of 5 is tough sometimes. Even though my twins are 5 and my daughter is 2, they go through so many fruits and veggies. Last week we went through 9 lbs of apples and 10 lbs of bananas.

No sugar free peppermint in two stores today!! I hadn't noticed a big change here in SW Missouri until today. I buy a months groceries in two trips. Some prices went up a little and some just went through the ceiling. We have deer meat in the freezer. So grateful for that. I did buy some extra things for my pantry, dog food, paper stuff etc. The whole order today was $300.Only meat was a whole chicken, 4# bag thighs, and a 6# bag of breasts

The most insane thing about groceries is that things that used to be considered "cheap" are now really expensive. Like even the "cheaper cuts" of meat are really pricey

437. for 6 people, is excellent! Food here has gone up, paying a third more on some things, meat can be scarce, or very expensive. So have been making a lot of homemade soups and stews that require no meat or very little. I believe we are spending about 500, for our family of five, but have been doing a lot of prepping for the future also.

I just added ours up. For a family of 4 living on a military base in the U.K. We spent $640 which includes(diapers, wipes, soaps, toilet paper and stuff). The food here is crazy pricy. Especially if you want American type food like Mac n cheese at the commissary is $2 a box since they don’t sell it off.

Your cost for the month of January is AMAZING! Helps you have a stock of other foods. We are a family of 3, and spend more than $400 per month, every month - more like $550 and it's much more than that now. You did great and give some great options and suggestions!!

Ooh potatoes are Brian that's awesome I should look for that bag the ingredients sound great. I like it in those tri-colored peppers Frozen and then just adding them to stuff. Frozen vegetables are the best. I've been into taking a sweet potato and grading it and then cooking it up in some coconut oil and then once it starts getting crispy I crack eggs in the middle like a bird's nest It's super yummy. This would be great to crack an egg in the middle of.

Family of 4, in Belgium, i try to stay at 800 euro, for everything: dishwasher soap, shampoo, toilet papier, cleaning products, drinks and food. We do buy 1/18 of a cow every year. But the last 3 months it's hard to stick to that budget, i'm stretching a lot of things.....pantry and freezer are running low... it's hard sometimes. Love your video's, you give me lots of inspiration!

Thank you for teaching your boys to cook. My brother never understood the time/energy it took to make a good dinner. He'd come home to a meal and 2 sides and say "that's all you did while I was gone for three hours?" Well ya, prep, cook, cleaning takes a while. Later his wife was sick for a while and couldn't cook for a while and I think then he understood.. hard lesson to learn later!

I am from Canada. The prices of your groceries trips blows my mind. When I ear all the american moms on youtube talking about the prices increase, I found it sad, but your grocery is still wayyyyyy cheaper than where I live... A freakin good price for eggs here is 1.99 a dozen.

Shelves at stores looking sparse, recipe ideas are limited because of this. Doing the pantry challenge in February if I can get some frozen veggies. My $300 month whole food plant based budget is almost $365 a month for 2 people. I am revamping my menu plan & will be eating more pasta, rice, beans & seasonal fruits & veggies. My winter garden is a good subsidy & my neighbors lemon tree hanging over my fence is supplying me & another neighbor with lemons. I really am paying attention to the prices now & coupon for personal care & household items as much as I can. Crazy times!

Grocery prices are going up here in Bama. However, I have a great Bent and Dent discount store right up the road from my house. I’m able to get a lot of stuff I use weekly from there. For my family of 6 I usually spend less than $400 per month on groceries.

One of my favorite ready-in-a-hurry meals that my entire family loves is boxed mac&cheese with chunks of ham mixed in. Make the mac according to directions, but add an extra TB of butter and 2 extra TB of milk, and a 1/8 tsp of garlic powder. Toss the ham in, stir, put in a pan, top with cheese of your choice and bake for 5-7 min.

My grocery budget plummeted when my kids moved out. I do have quite the stocked pantry. My total spend for January was $20.00 as I needed fresh fruit and vegetables. I also don’t cook everyday but maybe twice a week and eat left overs often. When you are used to cooking for a family of 4 now it’s just me there’s always leftovers.
