I remember when these first appeared on the shelves early 1970's. Made by golden wonder and cost 7& half pence. My brother's and I spent some of our pocket money on them instead of our usual sherbet dibs & Tom thumbs etc. That was my first and last pot noodle. 🤪

The so called original "Pot Noodle" aren't even original, they are now manufactured by "Unilever" but they were originally made famous by "Golden Wonder" the potato crisp manufacturer.

Unilever is a corporate shit-show and they really don't care about their customers. I was a production manager for a cosmetic company and Unilever is one of the biggest soap mfgs in the world. They branched out into many subsidiaries...one of them being Ben & Jerry's ice cream. As much as I loved "Cherry Garcia", I will never buy their products.

I've had hundreds of Pot Noodles in my time, & I've had the line up from Aldi, not really impressed with them to be perfectly honest, I ALWAYS end up coming back to the original Chicken & Mushroom proper one, my tried & tested way of making one of these is to add a teaspoon of curry powder, maybe a dash of Cayene Pepper, some salt & black pepper, then the soy sauce, fill with boiling water to a tiny bit over the line, give it a mega stir to get up all the bits from around the bottom, & then THE IMPORTANT BIT ---- pop it in the centre of the microwave for 30 seconds on full power, it really does soften the noodles up perfectly & all the juices get well soaked in, leave for at least 10 minutes & enjoy, trust me, you will NEVER eat one the old way again.

Definitely the original every time. My fave’s would be chicken and mushroom and curry. My partner’s is the curry, and my son likes the curry one as well. They may be nearly twice the price but definitely worth it. They were a favourite of mine back in the day… or Smash and meatballs in gravy in the tin 🤦‍♀️ Anyway, another brilliant review 😘 xxx

I like the flavour and mouth feel of the original pot noodles, there more sturdy pots make them easier to hold and keep the contents hot longer. I keep the pots and reuse them with maggi noodles and the missus uses them as plant pots for herbs etc after i drill afew hole in the bottom. I always get the bog standard chicken and mushroom pot noodle and if i am at home i use PRB or LKK gold soy sauce rather than the supplied sachet as to me and the missus it has abit of a metalic after taste from the hydrolyzed soy sauce they use rather than brewed type.

Hi Gareth. We do get a big selection of Pot Noodles here, but our boys big favourite is Carbonara, which is sold in an envelope pack, with two small liquid packs to add. Do in a wok, heat 400ml water with the noodles until they are soft. Drain some of the water out and put in a dish, add the flavouring and oil, about 5 cc of each, mix and enjoy !!

I tried the curry and chicken and mushroom Aldi pot noodles over the weekend and I quite liked them. When I made the curry one, I added the water and then got side tracked for a good ten minutes and when I came back to it the pot noodle was really thick. Maybe try leaving them a bit longer to thicken up and see if the flavour comes through more too as I found it quite tasty?

Another interesting and unbiased review Gareth. I rarely had them and when I did I didn't rate them, that however; was my fault as at the time I didn't stir all of the spices that were stuck at the bottom of the container, duh! I've since learned, and if I have one now, it's the Bombay Bad Boy (black container) which is quite spicey, the little sachet is chilli, apparently it's 10 MILLION Scoville units ? The calories are from the noodles and palm oil, full of sat fat for such a little pot. Then full of salt too. Packet noodles are the same, but I throw the packet away and make my own mix, or if im doing a few packs ill add one satchet then some extra bits myself. Can get simple dry noodles with no added fats which are better but alot more bland so need to add the right amount of flavour yourself

I bought a pot from ASDA a few months ago, but it wasn't by Pot Noodle, but ASDA's own brand. It was probably chicken and mushroom flavour. Anyway, it was horrible. I threw most of it in the bin and that's unusual for me, as I have eaten many pot noodles over the years and they are always tasty. However, since I discovered Japanese Nissin noodles some time ago, they are my favourite instant noodles now.

I ate pot noodles in the late seventies and even bought whole trays from a whole sales warehouse and sold them on at work. There were quite a few imitators around by then, some better than others. Curry and the beef and tomato was my favourite then. Years went by and I had stopped eating them up to recently when I found that a pot noodle in winter made a break from a cold sandwich at lunch. Sweet and Sour is my favourite and I Always put a splash of lemon juice or vinegar in to make it more sour. I like Bombay Bad Boy and beef too but not the chicken. I don't dislike the sticky rib but its not enough flavour for me. Noodle on and keep the salad and rocket munchers at bay, lol.

i like the chicken and mushroom one from Aldi but i have to add 1/3 of a chicken or veggie stock cube also from Aldi and a splash more soy sauce to make it a great pot noodle snack.

Asda and Iceland usually have pot noodles on promotion for 50p or something along those lines. I like king pot noodles Bombay bad boy for Sunday at work because I need to break before shop opens at 10am. I usually get a few of them in one go. Iv tried Aldi and Lidl version of pot noodles and there is absolutely no comparison between them. My own findings very much the same as yours. Get pot noodles on promotion and stock up that way you’re getting a good deal.

I've not had a pot noodle in years, I go for the Nissin Soba chili noodles... theyre made different because after the 3 mins, you tip the water out then add the sauce, the lid of the nissin noodles has drain holes

Pot Noodle's allergens were in capital letters, WHEAT and MILK :) They discontinued my favourite, the chilli beef flavour :D So now I take the sachet from a bombay bad boy and add that to a beef and tomato one, not the same, but nice :D You got away with that, went off camera to say 'Alexa' and then came back and said it 3 times haha!!

'Pot Death' 😏. Haven't ever had one and am not really inclined to start now. That long list of 'ingredients' makes me nervous .. the more 'E-whatevers' and stuff ending in 'ates' and 'ites' therein, the more so. I do occasionally scoff down the packet 'Instant Noodles' (without the Flavour pack .. I add my own concoction) and then mostly as a 'filler' with something else. You're correct, the Aldi version, can be boosted with flavorings gleaned from most kitchen Spice Racks. A good Channel this, with valuable info therein .. thanks for taking the trouble. Take care ..

I used to buy the Aldi chicken and mushroom snack noodle in about 2008 and it tasted just like the old pot noodle's before they changed the recipe to cut down on the fat and salt. But I think Aldi changed the recipe. Aldi snack noodles and pot noodles used to be about 40% fat.

When it comes to Pot Noodles, my go to flavours are chicken & mushroom, and beef & tomato. Always add a splash extra soy sauce or tomato ketchup. Plus I add just the tiniest bit of garlic powder for another layer of taste, but really not much otherwise it ruins the flavour. In terms of my favourite instant noodles as a whole, Nissin chilli Soba noodles are fantastic. They taste gorgeous but are a bit lacking in serving amount for the price. I only get them when they're on a deal. The yakitori chicken flavour Soba noodles are good too.
