"The gang culture has infiltrated high schools." It was like this in typical Alabama towns twenty-five years ago. All the celebrities, activists and reporters converge on Selma every year for an anniversary but ignore it and its conditions every other time.

It's shameful. Leave it to Dems to fail to revive something dear to them. They care more about Selma the metaphor than Selma the people.

I'm a 65 year old white guy and seeing young people of any background acting like this is a shame. Especially since what their parents and grand parents had to go through and fought for. You never know or hear about all the decent black people that are trying to survive in these neighborhood war zones. One friend of mine who grew up in a neighborhood like this said that joining the army saved him.

It’s poverty. And this is what you get as you continue to let it be a HUGE problem in our Country. They keep saying gangs. But never anything about the extreme poverty and hopelessness people feel living in these conditions every single day, while you look on tv and see the leader walking out of his mansion. Saying it’s the poor’s fault that this is going on. Gtfoh

Horrible but policing is not all that's needed. We need to reduce poverty Helping these poor single mother families in the ghettos. Until poverty is reduced and education is improved we will continue to see an increase in crime.
@YSLRD

We've been trying that for 50 years. At what point do we stop beating that poor horse? The answer is morality, honor and intact families. And some serious, heavy duty law enforcement. I've seen the U S Marshals in action. Bring in a hundred of them and let them stay long term.

Oh for the love of brake fluid take that BS Democrat talking point and blow it out your ass! Being poor is no excuse for this and in this country people have more opportunities than anywhere in the world in human history. These people revel in their inhumanity and many of them have more cash in their back pocket than I have in my savings account! But good to know that if Inget broke I can start waving guns on youtube, assault and murder people then some democrat bozo fucktard will come and offer me some money!🤯 Dumb idiot stop believing everything you are spoon fed by the communist, left wing media and subverted left wing college "professors"!

The majority of the violence precipitated from the sad and ugly history of Selma's racist past with instances such as "Bloody Sunday (March 7, 1965). J.L. Chestnut's book "Black in Selma" provides a very insightful perspective of living in this city; he was raised there and became its first Black attorney.

Selma is dead, Craig Air Force base shut down around 1980. Took all the businesses with it. Real jobs are gone. The only places left at the time was , candy factory, lawnmower plant, cigar factory Nothing much left after that. Had to chain down the hood of your car to keep battery from being stollen. I could go on. I went to SSHS. South side high school in sure it’s a war zone now GO PANTHERS.

Exactly, I agree with you. I can give you and update on what has happened here. We were recently hit with a bad tornado and the city is torn up real bad .The companies that you mentioned the candy factory, lawnmower factory and cigar factory have long been gone for several years. During the storm large metal sheets of tin from the old candy factory were wrapped around trees like tissues paper. The Selma mall that was popular is like a ghost town. 😂 It seems like only 3 or 4 stores are there. I went to Selma High, I had friend at Southside.
