While tragic and easy to focus on, it honestly doesn't matter. After watching the case I can say without a doubt if someone more competent and cared about safety was in her position (even if there were live rounds on set) the safety precautions she was supposed to take would have prevented the gun with live rounds from making it to anyone who might have pulled the trigger. We like to focus on the live rounds because you are right, they should not have been on site, but like who cares. If the armorer literally does their job it shouldn't matter.

How about the rule: You never trust another person to check your gun for you. Would you drive your car into a busy intersection at the direction of someone else in your car, or or would you look at what is going on in the intersection for yourself. Gun checks, especially with a simple revolver, are quick and easy to do. You don't need to be a 'gun expert' to do it. Alec Baldwin knows the protocols for weapons, his father taught him when he was younger, he has worked with many many armourers and weapons over the years of his acting career, plus he lives in a state where there are open carry laws so i would assume that he probably has weapons personally, therefore he should be well trained in gun safety protocols. Being on a set makes no difference. If you are handed a gun you follow your NSP's (normal safety precautions). It was the very first thing I was taught when i was an armed forces cadet in my teens, it doesn't matter who hands you the gun, you check it yourself, you never point it at something you do not intend to shoot even if you have checked and cleared your weapon. You can't tell me that every armourer and weapons expert that Alec Baldwin has ever worked with failed to teach him basic gun safety, if they didn't then the entirety of hollywood armourers and weapons experts need firing and retraining, and every actor needs to undergo weapons handling proficiency testing prior to being offered a role where they are expected to handle even a prop weapon. I honestly don't think he intentionally fired the weapon, i certainly don't think he intended to hurt let alone kill someone, but here we are, he was the one in control of the weapon at the time, he pointed towards where people were standing and he shot two people, killing one. He was also the producer of the movie, meaning HE was ultimately the person responsible for everyones safety on set, HE was the one responsible for hiring an under qualified armourer, HE refused the training. So yes HE is guilty of unintentional manslaughter. Just like Hannah was, SHE was the neglectful in her job, SHE didn't check and remove every slightly suspicious round, SHE let others handle the weapons and the rounds, SHE did not make sure the weapons and rounds were ALWAYS either in her possession or locked away with her being the only one able to access them, so although she didn't fire the weapon, she didn't point it at anyone, she was however responsible for live rounds being missed, live rounds being loaded, and responsible for handing a loaded weapon to Alec. So BOTH are guilty. There is no excuse.

I am bewildered why Court TV brings on legal analysts for a trial about guns and manslaughter who a) don’t know the manslaughter statutes in New Mexico and b) cannot articulate the ultimate issue with respect to the negligent use of a firearm causing death. The negligent use of a firearm creates criminal responsibility whenever the actor points a gun at another human being then pulls the trigger resulting in death. There are no legal excuses for this type of murder. It is similar to strict liability where only actus reus has to be proven. The state of mind of the actor does not matter and neither does any assumptions about whether the gun was “cold” because ALL citizens are required to treat every gun as if it is loaded and never point a gun at anything you don’t intend to destroy

I sure hope he does the same amount of prison time I'd do or anyone else without his recognition. He has been well trained for safe firearms use over the past few decades and he knew better than to take aim (call it what it was and stop trying to make it sound like an harmless act of pointing) at this lady, manipulate the arms action, pull the trigger. He broke far too many safety rules to claim it wasn't his fault as it most certainly was his fault! If someone else would have perpetuated this act they'd still be sitting in jail waiting for trial.

@@onelifedontwasteit8568 I actually shouldn't be posting my opinions due to my bias, but my concern has been the pickings of a soft fan based jury. His charges are involuntary manslaughter, but probably should be voluntary IMO. Regardless I don't know for sure how the state would decide charges depending on an individuals knowledge base, but being an arms and ammunition expert I may for example be charged with second degree...IDK. There's a lot of things that were overlooked in the Reed trial due to lack of knowledge or they simply thought it irrelevant, but if a high profile person were on trial (O.J. comes to mind) I'd have thought they would have researched things more.

I'm still extremely shocked that there hardly is any discussion about the discruntled crew that quit and left that morning. Here is, from what I understand, some crew members who were extremely, extremely dissatsified ie., mad, and pissed and who complained about safety issues, most notably about stuff like this happening on set Then they all quit, and hours after they leave, the exact thing they complained about, happens. It is like an employee complaining about wet floors in the bathroom and that people could get hurt. But his boss says stop complaining and we are not going to pay you extra hours to come clean up wet floors cus its no big deal. Then the employee quits and as he goes out, he pours water all over the floor to prove his point. One of those crew memmbers could so easily have just planted the real bullets in. Maybe not put it in the gun (wouldn't be out of the question) but mixed in real bullets with the dummies, and they did it in spite. WHY was this scenario ever not seriously looked at? That crew was very disgruntled over safety issues pertaining to weapons, and then they quit, rolled out, and next we know, this happens.

With Hannah unknowingly loading a live round and failing to notice, she was charged w/ involuntary manslaughter.
