I started it before Corona hit the US, so late February early March, which, living in Utah, means it was cold outside when I started, and my neighbor's workshop is NOT heated lol I've yet to go back over to finish hand sanding and filing, after which we're going to heat treat and temper then finish the handle. Once it's done, I'm going to make a leather sheath and I'm really excited, but I just haven't worked up the drive to just go finish the hand sanding. Will, I have a new appreciation for all the hand sanding you had to do on the Zweihander (I'm only fourth gen German and never learned the language, my apologies for the spelling as I'm fairly certain it's wrong lol) thank you both for the inspiration you've given me!

The basic difference between oil & water is cooling rate for the quench. I believe oil cools much slower than water, which means the resulting steel is less brittle from the quench. You all would be a riot to hang with - so the Bear Grylls (Alec) vs Les Stroud (Will) would be a fantastic series. For maximum fun it might be cool to throw in the twist of scenarios that might require some form of skill crafted solutions. For example, make your own survival kits with tools each person has made then test who wins each challenge using your tools. Bush crafting, shelter building, fishing, fire making etc. This is more of an "Off the Ranch" kind of theme but maybe you can have a "Forge Ahead" mini series where you use the things you make in practical applications. Just brain dumping - it all sounds fun though, love seeing your energy on camera despite all the hard work it is for your production!

Love this kind of content! I’ve been watching for years now, and I’m really inspired by all the stuff you guys have made. But getting to know Alec and Will and the team better, as well as behind the scenes content, is some of my favorite! Keep it up!

Do a tour! Rent venues, charge people who want to set up booths at the event, charge admission, offer short classes, give demonstrations, sell pieces, have competitions, etc. I believe in larger areas it would at least pay for itself, plus would get your name out to the uninformed.

I like watching you make swords even with using the same techniques over and over. Watching it come together is fun to see also.

Ok for reals... You guys should have a competition with each other where you both make your own stylized personal set of survival tools and then see who can implement theirs with the most ease and proficiency. Items you could make: spile, flint striker, multi purpose knife, fish hooks, camp axe etc... Let us vote (your subscribers/viewers) at the end of the competition for who we think was firstly the best survival tool maker and secondly the best survival tool user. This would be soo entertaining!

A blacksmithing event would be really cool. A chance to get together a bunch of talented blacksmiths, have classes, share tips, etc.

Alex, you always seem so happy talking about helping others learn, and advocating for the blacksmith community in general. Can you see yourself hosting courses, or public events in the future to further these endeavours?

Certified Mexican here, fajitas or "fajitas de pollo" are usually chicken cutted in stripes and then grilled with various vegetables, Tacos are made usually with corn tortillas filled with pork of beef meat sauce other stuff and then just FOLDED in half (hard tortilla tacos are not a thing in here), and finally burrito is made with wheat flour tortilla filled with chicken or another kind of meat and then ROLLED and close into their known shape.

This has been a wondrful post. It gives so much insight into both of you and brings you so much closer to your friends on the tube. It is right that you both keep your private lives private. and the part that relates to the workshop is public. In the question of on and off screen personal, Yes, Alec does present a more manic personality. And speaks a bit too fast. But when he is working, you can see the calmess and concentration he devotes to the project. You guys make a wonderful team. Yes, owing a small business is difficult. You do have to turn this into an income producing venture as well as demonstrating the art of making knives, swords and other interesting objects. I have noticed that several other "Forging" people had ceased to be on the tube - most notably the fellow who bought your English hammer. Mr. Pilcher. Good luck to both of you. Better yet, good management and forge a great future for your enterprise.
