If its Russian, my guess is that that rubber part can be replaced with some commonly-available sturdy rubber stuff. My bet would be old tires. Remember, the USSR wasn't about up-selling spare parts etc. It was about making things simple, functional and field-repairable.

You are on the right track. 3ply conveyer belt material . Rubber and cording. Definitely has the thickness probably needed. Almost the same as what they use in bias ply tires. Just in flat sheets.

As an electrician, I would pull new motor leads. the amount of vibration that thing has is going to eat that cable up coming out of that metal plate. Potential arc to ground and damage to the motor. I would also not use a cable. If it was mine, I would use pipe and pull regular wires up inside. Forge scale and cable = potential for failure down the road from melting the cable. Other than that, it's nice to see it smashing metal!!

As a sparky as well I would recommend the same. This power hammer is a beast and needs to make sure the electrics can hold up to the day to day usage Alec will put it through. Alec please get a sparky in to do electrics, you said it yourself your not an electrician so let a professional make sure it is up to the task. I'm sure with your following there is a local electrician that would be keen on helping you out, I know I would but wrong country lol

Spend the time and money wisely on someone who has done their time who knows what they are doing so you don't have to revisit the same problem in short order - best case. Worst case electric shock.

That matting looks like graphite-impregnated, fiber-reinforced 5mm gasket material; its 4mm now, after getting the borscht pounded out of it for 30 years. The Stanko looks to have been the recipient of a ton of informal maintenance and upgrade procedures over the years, but its still got a ton of life left in it. I know that Alex can get it back into the best shape it can be, it might take a little while. Great video and Happy New Year, Alex!

This power hammer has a sign of “high quality” on it’s side (a pentagon with a partial star and the «СССР» word in it). Thus, no surprise it still runs just fine. All it’s problems are a result of neglect.

In my experience with soviet machinery it is usually a lack of basic maintenance so i completely agree with that, but I did not know about that mark. I'll keep it in mind the next time I look for sovielt tools. Thanks for the tip!

I know nothing about forge hammers, but many STANKO machine tools, milling, lathes etc came into the UK circa 1970/80 via a bartering system or correctly named "factoring", whereby UK machine tool manufacturers could only sell to the USSR by accepting items as trade. Roubles were not internationally traded, so goods were exchanged, from shoes to hydraulic jacks, and machine tools. Great vlog Alec. Thanks for sharing.

Alec, in the US, at Tractor Supply Store, you can get a Stall Mat, it's for Horse stalls, its 1/4" fiberglass reinforced rubber, it's dense without a lot of give. May work perfect for you fix.

I have something very similar in my shop to your dial-a-hole but use it for making nice 90deg bends in 1/8" to 5/8" round rod. Hot or cold. You can add adjustable depth stops to the underside of the holes for repeatability when doing production work.

"Stanko" is short for "Stankoimport" ("Станкоимпорт", literally "import of machine tools") - the name of a USSR ministry tasked with import/export of machine tools. It became sort of a brand for most of the USSR exported machine tools.

Reminds me of Ward 2A lathe restoration, the bed is bolted to the headstock pedestal up through the pedestal and there are no access ports, you have to jack the whole body up. Love the videos.

and for the paint job, you so need to go for a Soviet Naval paint scheme. They used a greenish anti-fouling paint for below the waterline and that flinty grey color up top. Pick a fleet number for her and color that star in with red and gold.

I love old soviet machinery - a must, living here in the former union states - but the main issue with them is, is that there has always been a mechanic before you. I guess that's an issue everywhere with old machinery but as it happens to be, not every worker in the soviet union took good care for the equipment they didn't even own.

If you cannot find a specific material, you could try the rubber pad that is used under petrol compactors, for settling down block paving. That is usually about 6mm thick and clearly designed for absorbing vibration. There are eBay sellers that offer them in a range of sizes under search phrases like "Wacker & Compaction Vibrating Plate Rubber Paving Pad"
