Just by watching his channel (and others), I've been sort of able to give advice on the Baliscissors (butterfly scissors) project. Probably not great advice, but I do get a feeling why the scissor halves warp unpredictably after machining and grinding in the bevel. Alec too learned from the best, and following his channel (and That Works) gives a great insight into basic metallurgy without having to follow engineering courses. I'm not sure I could do half as well as Jamie though, but I do love the process of crafting and manufacturing.

This clip shows it very clear how big difference does it make to start from a scratch and knowing nothing and how you perform when you watched someone doing that work (and document it) for some time. Comfort with tools, catching hints, knowing the process... It takes time and practice. He had his time watching, just needs a bit of time feeling how it's done. And it goes fast. Really good job.
