Alec, here's to you. Thank you for showing us how many times you fail. Thank you for showing us just how much effort goes into your work, which has gone from rough hammers to fine art. Thank you for getting up every single time you fall and for starting over when it just isn't good enough. For those who you inspire to do a little bit better every day - thank you.

I know absolutely nothing about blacksmithing. I know very, very little about woodworking. Yet your channel has quickly become the single most entertaining thing for me on KZbin. Incredible passion, workmanship, thirst for knowledge and drive for perfection. You're an absolute pleasure to watch Alec, your commitment and good humour is immensely refreshing. Keep up the excellent work, I hope to be enjoying your videos for a long, long time (and I'm going to buy a tee shirt). Thank you for the entertainment, education and for reinvigorating my own passions.

Just Sara Eli O'saile I have been a day one subscriber on this channel and have seen all of his videos. I know that Alec does most of the filming and editing by himself, occasionally a good friend of his helps him, but he started the channel by himself and he even mentions it many times in his personal vlogs that he is learning and teaching himself how to film and edit. Even if you watch this entire series, you'll see static shots on tripods, he has an automated dolly which he has also shown us in his vlogs, and the rare handheld shots are done by either his buddy in the shop or a good friend or someone he's collaborating with, I believe that 98% of all the camera work and edits are done by himself.

Unstoppable Tramp My comment is pretty much self explanatory, if you know how to read it...Thank you for pointing it out again.Alec makes about $6-10K per month on average and I don't think it's within his budget to pay someone a serious sum of money just to film him every day. If any filmographer would make about $200 per day which believe me would be a bargain, he'd be spending about 3/4 (30x200=6000) of his earnings just to pay the film guy. He is still paying rent about £1200 if memory serves me right and that's without utilities, so he wouldn't be left with much now would he? Any shot is his manufacturing vids are either dollied or on a tripod, why would he need anyone for that. He might have an occasional pro when a project ends, but believe me, he doesn't have him on for everyday he's in the shop. he does most of it himself...even Mike Boyd with whom he collabed was amazed at how much work Alec put into his videos. So now you know.

Hey alec, I'm not a craftsman. I don't work with power tools, I don't spend hours poring over little details in things I create with my hands. I am, however, a musician. Upon first glance, what we do could not be more different. But this series taught me that behind every piece of art, every stunningly beautiful blade, every hour of practice, is a few things: a plan, the mistakes, the learning, and the follow-through. Thank you for showcasing your creative process and how these mistakes not only broaden your understanding of your art, but also prove how much you love your craft. Cheers

Alec, I can't wait for you to hand forge the frame, inset the satin, drop in the tempered glass, and mount your newest work in a proper frame. It is not a dagger. It's not a knife. It's not a Kris. This is nothing short of pure art. As the camera glided along its contours I couldn't help but pause at least a dozen times to just take in the beauty. I've watched every minute of video posted during the transportation of raw materials into this stunning work of textures, colors, natural beauty and crafted facets. But somehow I was completely unprepared for the end result. When you first showed the facets in the handle, I forgot to breathe. While I've certainly seen pieces from bladesmiths with more experience, more know-how, more technical implementation, and much less uncertainty in their craft, I can say definitively that I've never seen a blade that so completely left me stunned by its absolute heart-stopping visual impact. Extremely well done, Sir Alec. You have exceeded every expectation and did so with absolute class.

Your closing shots of it with the pieces from the failed handles gave me a thought. If you shortened them on the square end and cut slots in the top just deep enough to act as a display holder it would make an awesome presentation display for your mantle. There is often a level of comedy involved when an expert metal worker looks for the same level of precision in wood. Wood has a personality of it's own, it pushes back, it shrinks and swells, and is very sensitive. You can't just heat it and beat it: it's got an attitude. Beautiful work and you caught pretty much all of what I was yelling at the screen lol Love your work, brother. Keep it up.

Oh. My. Goodness! Watching through the whole series (not skipping all the handle work!) gives such a profound sense of accomplishment and pride at seeing the final product! The stain and angles on that handle are GORGEOUS and I stopped the video just to show my wife the craftsmanship in this incredible project!

That handle really did push the finished product over the top. I am curious to see your take on a serpent in the sword style damascus. It involves a mix of normal damascus and twisted damascus waving up the length of a sword. It is normally done on Viking style swords which I would also like to see your take on. Keep up the awesome work!

ALEC! My name is Jake I was a machinist for 40 years and 33 years of that was for Domino sugar which was owned at one time by Tate&Lyle some years back. I watch you all of the time and I respect you for your pride, talent and mostly your craftsmanship you show. I never operated a cnc but did make a couple of knives while I would Babbitt some bearings ranging from 1" thru 6. For some reason they frowned on me making personal stuff while I'm supposed to be working can you imagine the nerve. I enjoyed your repair of the Bridgeport mill which brought back some challenging memories. I really enjoyed the work I did but it got to be challenging when using a 12 pound maul to drive a 4-7/16" shaft out of a gearbox I would get stoped to make a half of dozen 10/32" turnbuckle screws with a 12" Chuck. Keep up the craftsmanship and I will continue to watch with all respect.

Now THAT is a beautiful blade. Ornate but simple, not overdone, very balanced and pleasing to look at. It honestly looks like something you'd find in a video game, almost too good to be true. Gonna have to go binge-watch some more series builds, they just keep getting better and better.

Very nice project. Your attention to detail really showed up in the final result. I don't need a Kris blade, but really this is a work of art I'd still love to have (something for your grandchildren to fight over). Display box next (maybe with Damascus elements)?
