Making a Damascus Fighting Knife in Under 19 Minutes!?

In this video, I'll be making a sweet little Feather Pattern Damascus fighter/everyday carry knife! My favorite part of this knife build was making the tapered tang as thin as I could on the end. The Composite Feather Pattern Damascus came out really cool and makes me want to experiment more with different kinds of Feather Patterns. The handle scales are fossil mammoth ivory with natural colors and two little Argentium Silver Pins!

As you may know, the video and audio production has gotten better, that is because of all the people buying our courses. we were able to upgrade some of our equipment and it makes me really happy to try and make each video a little better than the last!!! Thank you for your support! Also, shameless plug. If you want to level up your knifemaking, get one of these courses. This knife was inspired a lot off of our Beginner Bladesmith course. you can check that out here. www.learnknifemaking.com/pl/2147586190 Or if you rather make a more advanced knife that will challenge you to enhance your skills, check out the Take-Down Bowie course here. www.learnknifemaking.com/pl/2147585940 Lots of love, ~Josh Royer

I am sorry if this upsets you, you made a work of art, I would not be able to use this knife as a functional tool for fear of marring the surface.
@RdeneckTech
@RdeneckTech 5 ай бұрын
It is made to be used. My stepdad made beautiful chopping blocks for several family members one Christmas, and I was the only one that used it. To this day(about 8 years later) I use this chopping block everyday. It is art, but it's also functional. An unused tool is a useless tool. Just my opinion, however, I do understand your point. Using a beautiful tool sometimes feels like destroying art, however, the use adds character to the art.
@jeffreyallen6449
@jeffreyallen6449 5 ай бұрын
@@RdeneckTechI also think the way you do. I can understand his thought process and logic and it is completely fine but it's kinda like having an absolutely beautiful car and never driving it. I'm not saying to drive the car into the ground or use the knife until it brakes,I'm just saying why not appreciate it in every way possible,even if only on special occasions. I have some very beautiful, rare, expensive and one of a kind possessions and I feel like if I let them sit in the same place and just simply collect dust forever, it is doing said objects a disservice and letting it's full potential just go to waste. With that being said,I'm a true believer of the saying "to each their own" so by no means am I judging you friend. Good day and happy new year to all who read this.

Every other feather damascus pattern knife I have seen (including your dad’s) puts the feather the opposite way-with the “v” in the center pointing towards the handle. Yours point towards the tip, which looks much better to my eye, and I would think you would have less to fear of cold shuts at the critical tip of the knife. I am guessing that this is intentional, and if so, is just one of the attention to details that set your work apart from everyone else. Bravo!
@KyleRoyerKnives
@KyleRoyerKnives Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks Tom. We extremely rarely get a cold shut, then it manageable to eliminate. Either direction works. Just preferences. Dad just started running his feathers in a different direction just to mix it up. Good eye my friend. Cheers Dad

I love watching you make your knives. I think you make some of the nicest knives I've ever seen. I was wondering what a feather Damascus knife would look like if you cut the billet half like you did in this video but instead of welding the split back together where it was cut you instead turn both pieces on hundred and 180° and welded the outsides together. I would love to see a video of you doing that.
