I ran cross country in high school, and as one might expect, this show really clicked with me. Especially in the more recent episodes, you can see the faces of our protagonists as they finish the race. They're gasping for breath, in severe pain as they're pushing themselves just a little bit further. That of course rang a bell with me. But more than the physical similarities was when the show told me "running is a way to free yourself from the burdens of daily life, even if only temporarily." I was neither a fast runner, nor very motivated to do well. I stuck with it because of my friends, and because multiple years of a sport appealed to colleges. It's not at all an exaggeration to say that a lot of the time, I hated the sport. But after watching your video, I deeply, deeply regret that I never put the work in for the team. Even at the time, I knew that I was slacking off, not doing everything I could be doing to get better. On one day in particular, something happened before practice with a friend of mine that pissed me off, and I channeled everything into the run that day. I was fuming, emotional, and just wanted to forget it all, and so I ran much faster than usual, and found myself up with the varsity guys. I stuck with them that day, just running the stress away, and afterwards, I felt great. Little moments like that happened occasionally, but I never managed to boost myself up consistently to the level I might have been possible of. My coach knew it too, and he told me that he believed I could become a great runner. Every time he said that, I felt ashamed that I wasn't doing everything I could to live up to his expectations, but inevitably fell back into my laziness. There was camaraderie waiting for me with everyone running together, but I never took it upon myself to embrace the hard work necessary to get there. Your video, and Run With the Wind, brought back all those regrets, and showed me what was waiting had I simply taken another step towards it. Thanks Aleczandxr, I'm really glad that you took notice of this show.

Thanks a lot for watching, and I'm super glad I took notice of the show as well!

I relate so much to what you've said because I was also that guy. I ran cross country cause it was something to do and because it didn't require the coordination that other sports did. You just need to keep going, something I was good at. But I didn't put in all the effort I could have either. I choose the easier route of minimum effort and settled for good enough. What I hadn't realized was that this defined my attitude towards everything I did and would lead to a great failure later on. But that failure was exactly what I needed. It encouraged me to reflect on that lazy attitude I had and start to change it. I like this anime a lot and it makes me want to run again, haha.

This show is truly *grounded, breath-taking, and fast-paced* (I'll stop with the puns) I suppose I'm a full on weeb as this show was the catalyst that motivated me to start running again. Sometimes all we need is a push, a desire to run towards something personally meaningful, and the sense of genuine achievement that comes with it - no matter how small. Thanks for covering this series in a video, you perfectly articulated the reasons why this show is so emotionally resonant to myself and others. I. HAVE. BEEN. TRYINGGG. TO GET PEOPLE TO WATCH THIS. Sadly I won't be able to simply forward this video to others cuz spoilers, but heck, you've read my mind. RwtW is hands down one of my favourites this season and for good reason. The fact that it's set in a university with NO HIGHSCHOOLERS is so so refreshing. It's about running, yeah, but it's not like that. If anything I think the moment when Prince needs to get his official record is exactly what sums up the show: to try new things, to be entranced by it, to push yourself into extreme discomfort, and with the encouragement of your friends, simply run "forward!".

I hated running. Throughout my time in high school and through all of college, i don't think I was able to run more than a mile. Afterwards, in the midst of fruitless job searching, stress of expectations, and my own unhealthiness, I was pretty down. In terms of perspective, I looked at it this way. One of the only things i had complete utter control in changing was my body and health. I started running and working out. At some point, I discovered my form was absolute shit and I changed it up, and eventually was able to hit 3 miles pretty consistently. That was absolutely ecstatic for me, as someone who thought a mile was this unimaginable distance to run and was consistently overweight. Eventually I did find a temp-ish job and met some great people there and began running with some of them too. One of them encouraged me to run a race with them, so I signed up for an 8k. I trained up for it and ran it. My times in running were never really anything great, but the fact that I was able to run a fucking 8k when literally a year before I could barely do half a mile because of being so out of shape was amazing. By the time I started running and working out to the time I ran the race, I had lost about 30 pounds and my self confidence and image of myself was great. I felt like a new person. Everyone can take control of their life in some way shape or form. Running definitely helped pull me out of a bad spot and helped me grow as a person, truly life changing.

I think one of the things that Run With the Wind does different from many sports series, is that it doesn't exist in a bubble. Previously my favorite Sports anime was Haikyu (it's still near and dear to me) but it, and most sports anime, are somewhat in a bubble. We see this addressed a little from time to time, throughout series, for example in Haikyu it is touched on when the 3rd year students are told they should quit playing to focus on the things that come after high-school, but after that it's mostly forgotten, and the thing is, it's not that the characters are necessarily too invested in the sport. Most series just don't turn it around to the angle that Run With the Wind brings. Run With the Wind is expressly the opposite. It shows how being heavily invested in something that is mostly separate from everyday life can actually drastically improve it. For Kakeru, it was escape from his past and later just feeling the camaraderie of running with a group For Haiji, it was doing something that seemed unattainable, and overcoming his injuries and feelings of the world betraying him. For the Twins it was.. well, girls, and eventually the camaraderie For King, it helped him find perseverance and showed that employers can appreciate someone who can show so much dedication For Prince, it helped him be more confidant and healthy, and do something he didn't think himself capable of. For Nico, he could feel clean and free from the dirtiness of smoking For Yuki, it brought him discipline as well as (implied) brought him and his family closer together. For Musa, it brought him confidence and recognition For Shindo, it helped him find camaraderie as well as overcome a painful break-up and find something to believe in and fight for. Some of this is a little redundant but basically, what I am saying is that it takes this almost OBSESSION that the cast has, and shows how it doesn't have to mean that they abandon real life responsibilities or don't address their problems. I love this show and how deep and philosophical it gets.
@ThePmod6 жыл бұрын
Ever since episode 3, I just knew this show would become one of my favorites. Not only is the cast endearing, but there's also just something empowering with how Haiji pushed the team to try running towards a seemingly unnattainable goal, even if it's out of lowkey blackmail lmao. A lot of people called it Haiji manipulating them and stuff, but for me sometimes it's those, er, "encouragements" that help me even consider the idea of attempting the impossible. I find your point at the start in which just changing the meaning of running from escapism to a chase really, really good. It more or less sums up the message of the show and its execution.
@Aleczandxr6 жыл бұрын
Haiji's incredibly lucky that the team eventually gave in, haha. But at the same time, I'm convinced that he's an absolutely amazing leader, so maybe it's not luck after all..

I really love Shindo's line about choosing to run instead of being forced to (starts around 5:02) cause I feel that it applies to life in general. When I choose to do something that may not necessarily be fun but is beneficial to me instead of feeling like I have to do it, it becomes easier to do. A simple little change in the way I see it can have a big impact. Another great video Aleczandxr, keep up the great work.

Production I.G Studios just keep proving they are the reigning sports anime creators. I go out for a run once in a while(I do it daily in holidays), and I can tell you just how weird running is. It hurts, it itches you are out of breath and I usually heard 2 voices in my head. One that says I wanna die stop, the and the second louder one keeps answering saying "nah keep running". Even though common sense is telling you to stop you keep on running, because you believe there's a finishing line,somewhere. In the last episode Fujioka asked Haiji that, I do believe there's some sort of a finishing line we all chase, whether it is in running or not.
@doraaaa06135 жыл бұрын

When you first posted this video, I had never heard of this anime. Because of my natural instinct to watch and analyze every video you post, I had to watch this anime. It took me a while, and I almost cried when I found out that it wasn't a complete anime yet, but every aspect of this anime spoke to me. I'm Prince. When I run at school, I run in the back of the pack, all alone. Everyone laps me, and sometimes, it feels like I'll never get better no matter how hard I try. Instead of running being an act of freedom, I always associated it with self-hatred and disappointment. Somehow, after watching Prince grow and evolve throughout the story along with the rest of the group, I've been inspired to try to change my perspective. Instead of giving up when I don't make the times I need to for the grade, I should run until I'm satisfied. I've never been satisfied with myself after running. The points you made in this video really solidified that need for me, and I can't thank you enough for finding these amazing shows. I can't wait to see what you do next!

My doctor said that id probably never be as fast or able to go as long as I did in my younger years, but when Haiji said "If its about speed then why are you running? Take a train or a car if you wanna go fast" or even Kakeru saying "Just because you know you're gonna die one day, does that mean you'll give up on living?" Those moments reminded me a lot that there is more to this sport or any sport really than meets the eye. i wanna say, anytime that i feel like running away from something in life, the moment i put on my running shoes, i feel grounded and feel like instead of running away from it, i can run towards it and face it head on. i only started running properly in january this year (before it was just halfhearted jogging whenever i felt like i was putting on weight) and it's changed my lifestyle and my approach towards a lot of things, and im just a beginner but it's the most freeing feeling ive ever felt. i cant count the amount of times ive teared up towards the end of a run in euphoric glee because of the endorphin rush lol. and running taught me about having a good work ethic, and a lot about perseverance. anyway i just finished watching the show, i started it two weeks ago and between studying for finals that start tomorrow and all the assignment submissions i havent been able to run for a month now so watching them run made me feel so restless haha. the show resonated so deeply with me on a very personal level, it was such a great experience. love it a whole lot!

I always thought about running at a very surface level but this show really gives a much larger and intimate meaning to what it means to run. I also love just how easy it is to connect to the characters and want to see them grow and improve. People like Prince who give their all and go out of their way to improve, not only so that he doesn't weigh down his team but because he WANTS to. Seeing characters like him grow is so endearing. Great video man, its pretty nice that somewhere one can talk about this show!! For me this show is also about perspective but its kind of different from you from what has been aired. For me is like a counterpart for a rational life. Reason can make you better, it can make you crave things more, but only when a deep emotion has taken over you, its truly wholesome. Emotion is the core of everything, they can rationalize the reasons they think they run but at the end is not that. Its just doing a thing whith your whole self that makes you want to do it again, the hard part of it is to find what your reason can accept or the processs to make it acceptable.

When I was younger, my family put me in a running club and I thought it was a great way to spend time with my friends. As I went into highschool, I left it but did cross-country and it felt amazing and I did really well but there was people who did better than me so I trained and trained until I got 3rd in my second to last year. On my last year, I was winning and just enjoying it in the spurr of the moment but a boy named Charlie beat me so I resultingly came 2nd. I am now in my first year of college and know a few people but now I want to swim and run again because it's my love so mabye I'll try for the college team because otherwise I'll just go through life with regrets but I don't want to live like that. Ty for this amazing video

I hope I'm not late, I just found this anime last night and I just finished it today. I love it but I'm kinda torn between wanting another season or not because the ending was soo goood. I love sports anime so much, very very inspiring like you ever watched an anime that it's so good you wanna do what the mc is doing? Yup this one right here is one of those animes hahahaha. One of the best sports anime out there. I'm really glad I was able to watch this anime and what's more satisfying is that I found this anime on my own without anyone recommending it to me!!

When you uploaded the video yesterday, I watched half of. Instead of watching it till the end, I decided to watch the anime first. Around 10 minutes ago I finished the latest episode. It's the same for me, it somehow spoke on a very deep level to me. I feel like I actually need to start running. Abound half a year ago, we had a race in our school. I wasn't too bad, but I wasn't the fastest either. After the race finished a friend of mine came to me and she said "You should run more often, you're good at it." Right now I feel like I should try it. It's not that I think I can become super good, like the characters in the anime did. But I feel like I may regret it, if I don't at least try.

Have been watching your channel for years but for some reason I can't explain this is the first time I have watched this video, which is doubly strange as Run with the Wind is one of my favourite sports anime ever, I funny enough came across this video while rewatching highlights of the show while writing the script for my own video on the subject but had to hold out on watching this vid till now so my video wouldn't be influenced by your own, a great video as always even if it is a year old

As a runner for a few years now, this show was like looking in the mirror and my mirror image speaking to me. All of the steuggles the guys go through in training and in daily life, especially college life, it felt like the show was made for me. I also really liked the navigation of the meaning of running, that running is not an endeavour for your fastest self, but a tool to find and dictate your best self. The emotions, the imagery, the music, all intertwine into such a cathartic experience, and I would not recommend this show to people who do not like running because it will definitely give you a running bug!

Running helped me wash out stress and anxiety. Depression was my biggest fear to knock my door. Did not want to do what I love like lifting weights etc. One day I could sleep and at 3 am I started running, since then I never stopped. Running game me a peace of mind. It helped me stabilize my mind. It helped me to have once a gain motivation to live. Still running early morning when everyone still sleeping.

I just finished this anime and was looking for reviews, but found your video instead which is even better. As a university student and runner myself, I felt I could truly connect to the characters in the show. For many of the characters, they just needed a reason to start running, and once they started they ended up enjoying it more and more as they invested more time into it. The moment I resonated with most was when Shindou wanted to keep on running after his girlfriend broke up - run until he was emotionally satisfied. To me, running is an escape from the burdens of real world; a way to relive myself of stress, anxiety, and any other problems I'm facing, even if only for an hour or two. The anime does a great job at attaching an emotional connection to running and elevating it above it just being a simple sport. The show was quite motivating as well. Seeing the characters struggle with their runs, make sacrifices so they continue to run, and the exhaustion along with their feelings of achievement motivated me to run myself. I often found myself watching the episode at like 1 in the morning, then going for a nice run right afterwards. I'm mostly a distance runner, but I found myself doing second runs some days (short 5ks usually), and I ended up setting a new PR in my 5k time from the sheer adrenaline and motivation the show injected into me. Your video did a great job articulating the reasons so many of us viewers. runners and non-runners alike, were captivated by this show. Immediately after finishing it I knew it was going to be one of my all-time favourites and an anime I'll be recommending to many. Looking forward to more videos from you! Off-topic, but I followed you on Twitter and I saw you're from Toronto too! Go Raps!

This is de facto , one of the best anime i have ever watched! The characters are relatable and their journeys are revealing and therapeutic , almost as if you yourself went through the metamorphosis and came out from the other side and became something different. It made me feel that this show has the ability to transform the viewers, just partaking the journey and absorbing the view. Isnt that what running is all about? " So, Hey! Do you like running? "

For me running is about the freedom of my body and spirit. The health improvement the feeling the rush and the literal freedom to go anywhere you want. It also removed my social anxiety and removed that mental barrier for me. It's also always a goal of mine to have exceptional endurance too so it improves my body and mind too. But ngl especially starting off with no stamina or speed when you taste that speed and the wind flowing through your body and catching up and overtaking just other people even if they're walking is so damn satisfying too it like activates some primal predatory feeling/ instinct too that is so liberating. When running that is that sense of being alone and mental peace and tranquillity which kind of links to letting my body take over and letting those primal instincts that makes me also feel free too because I become so focused on one thing and it shuts down my brain, which I love because I overthink the fudge out of everything and so running is one of the few moments i can actually switch it off and just see and feel my surrounding and its honestly one of the best feelings ever. And because of all this experience I can really resonate with this show and love it to bits even the team aspect of when i used to play for a sports team for my highschool, seeing all the guys work together and support one another just brings back alot of nostalgia and is a big reason I love sports animes in general but this one is really up there with haikyuu and hajime no ippo for me. 10/10 and I couldn't agree more with this video too!

Running is a motif to life. You put everything I was feeling and thinking into words. You know, I recently started running again after 8 months - that's part of the reason I started this series after stumbling on Prince's story on KZbin - to motivate myself again. I've always kind of liked running, even as a child. I could never could place my finger exactly why, however. Yeah, it was something you do "to burn calories, to lose weight, to be healthy." But I felt like there was a another reason as to why I liked it, I couldn't place my finger why. I mean, why run when I could just as easily use an elliptical? (I would burn more calories this way right?) This show made me realize why I liked running. I'm with Nico on this, when I run "I feel perfectly clean." And I also feel like when I'm running, I'm chasing something as opposed to away from it. And yet at the same time, I feel so free. Honestly, I don't think I can see running the same after watching this series. My appreciation and enjoyment just got that much more deeper. It's about pacing, endurance, determination, improvement, distance, focus, perspective, self-reflection, breathing, freedom, seeing, comradery, setting goals... and finding meaning
