I love Alek Shrader's voice. At this point he's a tenore di grazia. At no point can his voice be compared to that of Domingo's (even when Domingo was in his twenties). Domingo BEGAN as a Dramatic Tenor because he had power, heft, and was already singing Canio and Calaf in his early thirties. Two completely different voices. Mr. Shrader's vocal coaches and Mr. Shrader himself it much too intelligent to even imagine his becoming a Dramatic tenor. It will never happen.

His voice is wonderful. But it's his interpretation, his voice acting which really really impresses me. I can actually hear the excited young Tonio and not just the great song with high c's.

I do not agree one bit that he will exclusively sing rossini. He is not a pure leggero sounding tenor to me. I dot see him not singing Verdi and Puccini in a few years. He is an incredible talent with an incredible old school technique. Chest voice from top to bottom. This is my favorite version next to pavarotti.

The beginning is rushed, but face it, what most people want to hear is the high C's at the end. :) Mr. Shrader loves this aria, and with good reason - it made a name for him in the Met Council auditions, as seen in the film "The Audition." I'm ok if he has a little fun in recital. He's a charmer with a great future.

That boy's gonna scare the breeches offa Juan Diego, and I'll give him a lot of leeway because of the poor quality sound and his rhythms were kind of off. But it reminded me of how Pavarotti would crack the air-"spaccatura per l'aria"-I think they call it-and he has the same squillo and "throw" to the voice.

Alek Shrader will NEVER sing Vesti La Giubba, or Nessun Dorma. Both of those arias were written for a much heavier tenor voice ------- a Dramatic Tenor. Alek Shrader is a LYRIC tenor, and the arias you have alluded to are way, WAY too heavy for him. He'd kill his voice trying to do those arias. I'm sure that you will eventually hear him on You Tube in much more stuff that suits his voice ===== a lyric tenor.
