One thing I always do that customers really appreciate: When it’s hot out, this especially applies. I alway bag all cold and frozen items together (this may be a no-brainer, I realize). However, when I leave the bags at the customer’s doorstep, I always locate the frozen and refrigerated items, and place them apart from all other bags, in front, closest to the customer’s front door. This allows the customer to get them into the freezer/fridge right away, without searching for them amongst a dozen paper bags. It’s the little things that maintain a 5* rating.

I was a shopper support agent, great to see the actual shopping process. When you wait 10 minutes we give a wait time bump of $5, 20 minutes $10 extra. Also, some customers are very picky so pay attention to the type of replacement, whether default, no replacement or specific. They complain about that a lot. EDIT: I quit after 3 months.

Hi I’m a customer and I just wanted to thank all you shoppers! I always tip well over 20% because I appreciate your time! Although I understand not every customer can do that. Personally I agree with the no produce bags, I recycle all plastic bags at the grocery store and I wash my produce so I’m not afraid of bagless. Also I usually accept replacements but I’m highly lactose intolerant so I do appreciate when shoppers take the time to get a replacement that works for me. Thanks again!

As a shopper, I’ve memorized all the layouts in the stores I’ve gone to which makes it easier and faster. I always go to the produce section first and get all those items because most of the other items are on the other side of the store so you don’t have to keep walking back and forth. Also, customers always appreciate good communication, it helps with a better tip and good rating. Lastly, at checkout when unloading the cart I always put all the cold stuff together, produce together and light stuff together and save eggs and bread for last which makes it easier for the bagger.

For #1 & 12...I am just finishing my first week and I really needed to hear this. I was sent a double shipping order for Aldi's and I am not familiar with Aldi's aisle style. When my 'time' turned red, my heart sank. I finished the order, but, on the way to the first drop off, the apartment was tricky to find. Both customers were SUPER understanding! Still, in the car on the way for drop off, I teared up...felt like I was a failure (which is SO unlike me!) and just wanted to cry. 😢 It only lasted for a moment, but, still. Hearing someone say, "Don't worry about the time..." makes all the difference in the world for me. Thank you for a great "tips" video. By the way, that slow-motioned walk, while putting your sunglasses on, from the cart corral....toooooo cool! 😎 God bless you in health and all prosperity.❤️

Excellent idea! A personal note once in a while, stuck in the grocery bags may be a nice touch too. Just curious, do customers request you use their bags? Can they request a particular instacart shopper? If you pick-up their bags each time you drop off a delivery, it might be a good way to get loyal customers. Have never ordered on instacart, so Im a complete newbie. :)

Hopefully, the person is still there, and you get to apologize and see their relief when you place the cart back where you found it. Honest mistakes happen. No one gives a sh!t about your cart. I'm a vendor and most customers have no idea we even exist. Constantly mistaking us for store employees and taking their sweet time while shopping, always blocking the aisles but that's to be expected. Now we have to deal with shoppers from outside companies in addition to order pickup and delivery store-employee shoppers constantly blocking the aisles up leaving their carts in the way when we are trying to merch shelves with u-boats or 2 wheelers. Just be considerate is what I'm saying.

I am a customer, not a shopper. I appreciated seeing this side of things because I have often wondered. I think Instacart should provide you high-quality cooler bags for free because it reflects on the company also. I recently received an order of frozen fruit that had been out so long it was squishy and mushy. The poor shopper was so frazzled I didn’t worry about it but I noticed he did not have cooler bags and I wondered why not. No I know he will have to get some himself. I do have a tip, however: make sure you get the right order! LOL this guy with the mushy frozen fruit at first brought the wrong order to my house. LOL I laugh, but I realize for him it may not be a laughing matter.

I really appreciate your customer’s point of view. Being a new Instacart shopper I can say that for me shopping for customers is like shopping for myself. I’m unhappy when I can’t find the desired item or it’s good replacement. Not mention my worries when smth goes wrong with payment card… I always get the freshest products and separate the frozen and cold items from others. I’m shopping with cooling bag all the time and get frozen items just before the checkout. In the car I have xxl cooler bag with the containers with frozen liquid, it helps to keep the temperature of the refrigerated or frozen products). Maybe I’m not as fast as the shopper in the video, but I hope my customers are quite happy with my service. And my point is: you have to do your work well, so the other person will be okay with the service you provide to. But it’s good to communicate as well. I never thought that some people don’t want the produce bags. It takes a great amount of time to wrap all produce in them, and it seems sometimes it doesn’t worth it 😊

Great Tips! Another tip of mine, don’t be afraid to go to a different location than the one suggested for full service orders. In the 6 months I’ve worked for Instacart, I’ve had several instances where it’s told me to go to, for instance, a Wegmans 20 minutes away, when I’m actually right next to another Wegmans. In general, all locations of the same franchise will carry the exact same items and although they may have a slightly different layout, going to the location closest to you will almost always save you time and you should have no problem finding all the customer’s items.

As a customer, my tip would be to use a little subtle reinforcement with your customers to encourage them to use the specific instructions for each item to anticipate and answer whatever questions the shopper might have such as "Pick green bananas, organic if you can, but regular is fine." I find it this to be the biggest thing I can do to help you, so you won't spend time guessing and won't need to take time to call me. It feels a bit like being a control freak though so if you find this helpful just let your customer know "Hey those notes on the bananas were great, I love when my customers give me detailed instructions for their items!"

As a cashier, please bag all your produce. You’re actually not saving time because we struggle at the front trying to scan and bag all your “alike” produce. It makes checkout longer and backs up our lines. What you can do to save bags and the environment is to bag all QUANTITY items in one bad and let the cashier know many of each item you have. For weighted items, bag separately from one another. Ahhh, and don’t forget to recycle ♻️ all your plastic! Just a tip from a cashier’s end:)))

To better find items ask yourself (what is it) then read the isles when scanning shelves point at your target and move in a zigzag, look back and forth then move on. Divide different orders into different carts it helps loading. Definitely walk fast try to be in and out I have seen instacart people in giant for up too 2 hours if it takes you more than 15 minutes to complete an order start asking associates to help you !

Walmart sells these bags that attach to the carts in a way that allows you to divide the cart if you have multiple batches. Ive found that putting the bag in the middle of the cart gives you the ability to break the cart into 3 sections for 3 different customer orders. This makes taking multiple orders much easier and prevents any confusion. I also recommend a divider in your trunk (or back seat) to put each order in it’s own spot. Again, helps prevent confusion.

All 3 orders were 25 + items but all customers communicated great and I made great tips

Great Vid! My Tips: Before starting batch, gather produce bags and stand in an aisle like can goods or water aisle. Once your order begins, you'll be able to gain good momentum by picking up non perishable items first(takes less time than produce, deli, etc.) Also, some customers follow the shopping in real time and they'll be happy that you're picking non perishable items first.

truth about working for instacart is that you are not told that you can sit for hours and not make a dime, also when asked to do more hours does not mean you will get a batch even though there are red blocks all around you. If you are going to work for instacart make sure you do not need a steady income. This is a very good video with a lot of great tips that I had to learn on my own not a lot of training for this position, unless you are an experienced shopper at every store in your district. I 100% agree with this comment!! I have had insta cart ask me to work extra hours multiple times... just about every week they do this to me. I alwayss accept it but then when it comes to those hours that they asked me to work, There will be 3 or 4 red blocks all around me but somehow I will not get one batch... NOT EVEN ONEE!! So I don't understand why they are asking me to work these extra hours if they are not going to give me any batches at all. Most of the time, where I live anyways, I will be scheduled anywhere from 30 to 42 hours ans sometimes even moree then that allll in one week. However, Out of all of those scheduled hours I am very lucky if I get 3 or 4 batches for that entire week!

I know exactly what you guys mean but lets be honest, I dont think this warrants the negative comments about instacart. Keep in mind the good instacart is doing for those old folks, handicaps, stay home moms etc who don't have the time to hit the grocery stores. Instacart isnt perfect and so is anything other company. Be greatful for an opportunity to make a couple of bucks when they are available to you. My girl friend and I have been doing instacart late january of 2019 to present. 20 to 35 hrs a week, bringing home between 300 to 600 every wednesday. We both have full time jobs and are parents to 2 boys and we noticed the issue you guys complain about so we just stay home and if a batch comes while at home, we head out. If not, then oh well. Go about your day and plan accordingly that you might receive a batch because you are on the clock that you picked up. Instacart i dont think is designed to be main income stream. It is extra income stream. All im saying is take the good with the bad. Stay blessed. 💚

Good vid. Another tip would be that as you locate your next aisle take note of the ounce size, item specifics and go ahead and open the app to the camera as you walk so that you know exactly what youre looking for and you can scan as soon as you find it. That may seem like common sense but when I first started I'd wait until I found the product to open up to the camera. Taking a mental note and having the camera ready really helped me get through faster.

Also, if unfamiliar with where something is, sometimes the customer can help you locate it if they're familiar with their store and where they usually find it. I'm currently a customer, but joining as a shopper since I usually like to do my own shopping (I'm pretty particular with a special diet), but have had to give up control and allow others to help me out after my twins were born. This is awesome! Totally agree on everything except 2: First, I ALWAYS wait for a missing customer. Most of the time they will say "oh yeah i forgot!" or "oh yeah im running late just leave it at the door" BUT I have had accidental duplicate orders and orders placed on the wrong day. In these cases I have either returned items the next time I am at the store or kept them if not returnable. (The few minutes spent waiting typically increases customer satisfaction either way). Second, I always get produce bags. It saves time at the register (cashiers don't have to round up 6 apples rolling around to place them on the scale. It also keeps produce from encountering chemicals or raw meat juices.

Another valuable tip is something that I practice right now is you want to make your groceries as easiest possible going in and out of your car quickly and without wasting time doing Tetris. My solution to this is I got what is called an elastic tarp strap with a dozen hooks that come with it and filed all of them for soft edges and now it holds stretched against my driver seat across to the passenger seat. This has made securing bags quickly and easily whether it's plastic or paper loops. My car's trunk also has a space for additional straps to do the same thing and I've been considering putting it back there for now on or use both for big orders. Outside of club stores and other large item stores, this provides most of my solutions. Easy to put together, just need a few tie downs of green ties from the produce section for friction and interlock the hooks between two green ties, give each one plenty of space, and you're ready to go. Doing multiple orders is much easier now

I only use apple maps for delivery. Apple maps will show you the outline of each house on the street so that way I can count the number of homes instead of looking for an address, I STILL confirm the address to make sure I’m at correct house. Example, on the apple map I can see the customers home is the 6th home from the start of the street. Much quicker than looking for addresses

Hi. Im a new "shopper" have yet to do my first. I've been watching videos for 4 hours now lol.... got lots different tips...which is awesome. One thing that is being said over and over, know the layout or store where you're shopping. I intend to print store layouts if they are available, laminate them to save from wear n tear, if they arent available, I will create my own with notes and all. This may help with being able to complete more batches quickly. You can also mark the laminated sheet with dry erase markers anything to keep in mind. Also, for hot items, ordering a pizza delivery bag would be best and use the lined ones for cold foods. i delivered pizza for 30 years, hot foods in those bags that are plastic or silver looking on the inside make the boxed wet from condensation. Im looking forward to starting instacart shopping! Will be a nice change from working in a pizza restaurant.

More Tips! 1) Invest in a Batter Pack phone case and utilize Low Power Mode on your phone, even if you turn the node on at 98%, your phone will always be likely to die SUPER slow, saving you a lot of juice, and sparing you a headache! 2)Get all of your cold items (juice, milk, seafood, meats, ice cream,) LAST! That way items stay super cold for customers, and you don’t have to risk anything being room temp or melting, especially if you’ll be Instacart’ing in warmer upcoming months!

This is so important when you shop at Costco. Also, if you notice too many people in line with big orders at Costco call a supervisor and ask for assistance to help them unload their items. The cashier is supposed to do this and for whatever reason doesn't. The floor supervisor will always appreciate being alerted about stuff like this. I also want to add - be polite and courteous. Always ask nicely and in a professional manner. It gets very frustrating dealing with staff members who have an attitude or just don't care about their customers. I try to remember that responding to rudeness with rudeness never resolves anything.

i did what i call dry runs after I was sent to a store that I got a bit lost in. after the order I would temporarily stop accepting orders and I would go back to that store and just walk around and get familiar, so next time I had a general idea of the layout and product placement. most of your orders will have you returning to the same stores over and over so 1 dry run to take your time and REALLY get familiar with it goes a long way when you get an item on your list that's a bit of an oddball item. 1 dry run will speed up all future returns you make to that store and is worth your time in spades.

Excellent strategy! That's how it's done, this is key to moving faster and lowering your time. Less complex if you have a single order batch. However, if you grab another cart, move out of the way of customers, you can scan and sort. I don't really do this now after 3 years of experience but this actually works and it helped me learn the store layout, as well as, increase my productivity and accuracy. If it's 15 - 20 items, or even as many as 40 items, I grab everything first, then scan them all at once.

I’d say that carrying a basket with your cart can speed things up if you go to the dairy when your last aisle is 17. You can grab more items in the basket and bring them back to the cart. It’s a hack I’ve been trying.

This is a great video! The only question I have is about the "not waiting ten minutes" recommendation and leaving the bags and notifying customer. You cannot leave bags at the door without the customers direct instruction to do so- most times I call Instacart, they tell me to take the bags back to the store. It's a huge hassle and very frustrating. One time it paid off pretty well as they told me I could keep everything, not in those words but they said to make sure it wasn't wasted. That was awesome! Otherwise, I have been told you can be deactivated for leaving bags without the customers instruction- just my two cents!

@stephaniehorn270
@stephaniehorn270 4 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely correct, any shoppers reading this, do not just leave the groceries at the door, you will be deactivated. There's a button for customer not available on the delivery page of your app. Follow the prompts and only if the customer says ok do you leave it at the door. Otherwise return the non-perishables for a bump or keep it.

So do you get paid to go back to the store and stand in line to do a return, etc
@stephaniehorn270
@stephaniehorn270 4 жыл бұрын
@@onenationundergod8, you get an extra $10 on top of the instacart pay. But stores won't usually take back the perishables and some stores don't accept instacart returns at all. If you can't get back to the store, you're actually allowed to keep or donate the items. I think they write it off or something.

That is the downside of instacart, then they can rate you bad after that when an item they wanted wasn't in the store.
@ChimereASmith
@ChimereASmith 4 жыл бұрын
@@KVStarStruck22 omg yes, I have also had customers rate me bad on missing or replaced items after I had a whole conversation with them about a requested item either not being in stock or not having enough to fulfill the quantity they are requesting. They either state they want a replacement or its ok if they dont get the 10 bottles of water and settle for the 5 on the shelf. Only to turn around and give me a thumbs down stating missing items or wrong item picked when its what they told me they wanted in the text conversation. So moving forward I will make sure to take screenshots of the convos and provide them to instacart to dispute the thumbs down reviews when warranted.

Best tip is go with a partner, i was a delivery driver for 2 years i can drive in any situation and no issues with parking. literally will knock most of these tips out by bringing someone with you. The best is a wife or husband because then you dont split the earnings. Screenshot half the list and you both go and grab items in different parts of the store 😎

I am an instacart Shopper and they sent out emails about this .... Shoppers are not allowed to have anyone with them while they are working. It is a liability to the company. Instacart sends out rules and regulations to everyone who is signed up to shop with the company. Basically anyone who brings a significant other/spouse/child/ and/or friend along with them to make the process quicker is a liability. If the shopper gets reported they will automatically be deactivated. They don't want anyone who they haven't done a background check on or anyone who isn't signed up to have access to customers personal phone numbers/addresses/ or names for safety reasons. Also now due to this Coronavirus they don't want to spread.

Just scan the bar codes which tells you if you got the right item and then takes it off the list. Its better to have to scan each item otherwise you'd screw up the order for sure.

Nothing against you, because you seem to get the quality/speed aspect of shopping, but this is why 9 times out of 10 I would want a woman to be my shopper. Men just don't have that quality eye when shopping, like check the eggs for broken ones, or get healthy looking produce. I use Instacart and I've always gotten that rushed feeling from my male shoppers that left me a little uncomfortable that my order might be wrong. Whereas, the female shoppers didn't make me feel like it was a race they were trying to win. Thank you for sharing your perspective on the process and giving me some hope in my future Instacart orders.

Tip #6 i waited yesterday and made $10 for waiting and $10 for returning the stuff and since it was a "delivery only" order i just left the bags back at the sataging area... so $20 total on top of what the order was paying is better than leaving them and waiting for another order
