my DIL is mexican and she is here in this country legally. last march I got an early morning call from my son that his brother-in-law had been murdered the night before while walking in his own neighborhood, a portland oregon suburb. several hateful people suggested that he was killed by another illegal. actually, both he and his sister are legal immigrants. it's difficult to understand how people can be both so ignorant and hateful towards others. and if they fear for their lives, it is a realistic fear. and now I'm sure that the hateful comments to my post will ramp up again and be out of control. hate is no way to live. last spring my son and DIL went to juarez to work on her citizenship status. Given the reputation Juarez has, I was frightened the entire time for them. apparently one day they took her to the consulate and gave her a complete physical, presumably looking for gang signs and tattoos. she is a nice quiet 29 year old young woman who has a good job at a portland contracting company doing payroll. she is not now, nor has ever been a gang member. spreading hate and misinformation is never the right thing to do or the right way to live.
