FlyLo is doing the music for the upcoming anime “Yasuke”. Its based on the life of a man known as Yasuke in Japan. Not sure what his actual birth name was. What makes his story interesting is that Yasuke was one of the only known Black samurai (of African descent, specifically) in recorded history. Yasuke came to Japan in 1579 along with some Jesuit missionaries. He was eventually noticed by the legendary Japanese warlord Oda Nobunaga, who made Yasuke one of his samurai. Apparently Yasuke was a really big dude. Not sure how historically accurate the anime is going to be, but bet im gonna watch it. For the music alone it’ll probably be good...but the subject matter seems pretty damn entertaining too

willstreet22 Yes, more or less, except Yasuke was a real person. Afro Samurai is very loosely based on Yasuke. I don’t expect the Yasuke anime to be historically accurate, but there is also a movie about him coming out that will probably be a little more true to his actual story.

I saw Flying Lotus at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

As unique and interesting a producer as FlyLo is, the reason I like this album because it because of how heavily it channels J Dilla. Compared to his other work this album just feels like straight Dilla worship, and it's cool to see how he built on that sound and developed it to where it is today.

FlyLo is really unique artist in African-American culture and in whole worldwide scene, he is already a Legend
@Kaleki935 Жыл бұрын
Where in Africa was he from? I thought he was an American? Regardless, black culture is American culture. They played a major part in building the modern world, we gotta stop degrading them to the world of tribalism they're clearly not a piece of. I'm not a pilot, nor a sailor, nor am I a self identified 'german-american', though all of which is in my history. I'm not my ancestors. Why do we associate an entire demographic with their tribal roots, if not for subconscious reprogramming? It's this programming and lazy categorization which leads people to unironically call this genre "black people music". Is that "inclusive", or is the subconscious bigotry probably not the best outcome, so we should analyze why we do and say what we do and switch it up a bit? If the entire world remains this ignorant, we don't stand a chance. Bigger changes are coming, in case the food shortages and price hikes alongside neverbeforeseen social 'laws' like masks weren't enough of an indicator. And those bigger changes will affect generations whose parents were unobservant today.
@oldramon980 Жыл бұрын
@@Kaleki935 the fact that you are not proud of your heritage says more about you than about others. You are your heritage and it’s absolutely ok to be proud of it, this is how culture preserved for centuries and passed down from generation to generation. When someone comes and says that we are not our ancestors, this is a step towards the degradation of culture.

The very first track is my joint... it's got a heavy oldschool 90s NY sound.

I can dig it. This kind of music fuels my writing. It's like rapping. The beat fuels the lyrics.

1989 & Orbit Brazil are my favorite off this project..if you liked Cosmogramma you might also like the album Wormholes by Causmic. Leigh McCloskey who did the art for Cosmogramma also did it for Wormholes. Dope animation too.

Super late but glad i ran into this comment. Considering Cosmogramma is one of my favorite albums of all time, this one hits a similar spot. Thanks!
