A few notes about this video now that it's picking up some traction: This video is not sponsored by Alesis This review is mostly geared toward *new* drummers needing a quieter alternative to an acoustic kit Alesis has recently updated the Nitro Mesh kit, I'm not sure if the updates are cosmetic only or if some are functional, but the drum set featured in this video is not the most current model version I realize that the last recording of the room mic should've had a higher gain to get a good idea of the sound bleed. It seemed to be loud enough while I was editing the video but once I was watching the video back online, it seemed really quiet. Unfortunately my laptop died recently so I'm not able to correct this problem, but the idea still stands: you should be able go use the drum set quietly to practice and record your performances in the comfort of your bedroom/studio Something I forgot to mention in the video: this drum set will easily accommodate very young drummers until they're able to "fit" a full-sized acoustic kit *Some cons about this drum set that I've noticed*: Faster double pass passages (e.g. continuous 16th notes around 190 BPM and beyond) may not be fully triggered. I didn't include this in my review because I wasn't sure if it was a problem with my technique or an issue with the trigger. You can play extremely fast on the mesh heads with no issues triggering all the notes (a fast double stroke roll will have no issues), but on the bass drum pad with a double bass pedal, it may start to "skip" some of the notes that you play. As I said, I'm not sure if this is an issue with the trigger pad, or something to where I should be playing more "off" the head with my beater rather than burying it. Either way, it is something to be noted. HOWEVER, here is a link to a video I made using the Iron Cobra 600 double pedal in a tempo range that is very comfortable for this pad, and at this speed, you should have no problems whatsoever with a double bass pedal instagram.com/p/CBwTDtvlYjD/ I have had some issues with one of my kits not connecting my headphone cable properly. I suspect there's simply a piece of metal in the connection not touching correctly because with some light spinning of my headphone input in the module output (jiggling it a bit), the problem goes away. I've only had this issue on one of my Nitro drum sets, the other has had no problems whatsoever like this You also cannot import any samples or songs to this drum module, but there are fairly easy work arounds using the "AUX IN" jack on the back of the module to play along and using a DAW to set up samples to be triggered using the drums Last updated: Nov 18, 2020 As always, if you've got any questions, comments, or concerns, let me know and I'll be more than happy to address them

This was my first kit. Spent about 4 months learning to play, playing all the time. Finally I was like "this is just too small", so I upgraded to the Alesis Strike Pro. I'm so glad I did. The Nitro Mesh forces you to hit the sweet spot on very small drum heads, so much that when you upgrade to larger drum heads I found drumming to be incredibly easier than before. I say, start with this for sure and you'll appreciate it so much more when you step up.

I gotta say brother, this was a well thought out review. It happened to show up in my feed and as I've had a curiosity about these types of kits I took the dive into the video. Really appreciate how thorough and honest you were from the tech all the way down to the rigging. Was cool that you threw in the addition of the noise level comparisons for those who may be considering this for apartment life or possibly even as a gift for a child etc. You have a knack for giving a great product demonstration and review and I hope to see more in the future. I feel that companies such as Alesis would be doing themselves a service by sending you products to review.

Considering an electronic kit in the near future, after a lifetime of acoustic drumming. This is the best review on youtube, for sure. Great informative video. I have the expansion pack with 1 extra cymbal and tom, as well, and on top of that, I bought a 2nd Alesis Kick Tower pad for true double bass. To do that, one only needs a 1/4 inch mono Y splitter, since both kicks will be at the same exact settings. It works great! (much better than a double pedal, since both hammers were only hitting the edges of the pad, not the center).

In the Hvac industry they have these things we call waffles. Because they look like waffles but there’s anti-vibration pads you can put under the whole setup. In addition to the rubber that is on the bottom of the setup. Also if you get a few acoustic foam squares and put them on the wall near the set and on ceiling and if there’s carpet or throw rug in the room you should be in good shape. Some google searching will find examples of above. Hope this helps.

this is a great little kit honestly, very customizable. the onboard sounds are awful though, and the kick seems to be WAY quieter than any other pad. luckily, you can just connect through midi to your computer, I have a Mac book and even the basic drum kits on GarageBand sound pretty decent, which it also automatically routed them pads to GarageBand properly, i'll probably eventually get superior drummer or something though. my 1 real complaint is the hi hat pedal, the spring has way too much resistance and if Im trying to play with the hats closed, if i'm not pushing really hard on the pedal there's a deadzone right before the trigger is depressed completely. I managed to fix it by cutting the spring for the pedal a bit shorter though, so it's easier to fully depress now, and I definitely recommend doing it.

You can adjust the individual volumes and the sounds per pad. You can also adjust the sensitivity, reverb, eq and you can go through and change each individual drum to whatever is in there plus adjust the pitch of each as well. Very helpful once you got that.

Yes, the Nitro on board sounds are not good - if you're used to something like Roland, which I am, there's just no comparison, but using MIDI to your iPad or laptop allows you to use better quality instruments, but not without hiccups sometimes. Better to just save for longer and just get a decent 2nd hand Roland. Edit: I'm now using Drum Session with ios, which is not very expensive, and it makes this kit sound like a high end kit. Also, the back up service from Drum Session is also very good.

@@backintogear9071 midi cable from the MIDI at the back of the module into a ios camera kit/adaptor into your ipad and open GB Drums. Simple. It connects very easily to gb. Also, on the module turn local (loc) off and GM on.

Nice job! I used Walmart 4" furniture risers (in house) for mine, and I'm sure I didn' spend more that $15 for 'em..

Nice setup! I have had my Nitros for a couple years now and recently bought the expansion kit for like 300 bucks which gives you another cymbal and a dual zone pad. So now I have a 10 piece setup and I have the dual zone setup in the floor tom position with rim trigger set with the deepest tom/kick and the cymbal is set to a ride sound. Side note... I heard that if you use TRS split cables that you can actually make this kit huge! The cymbals that are single zone and the pads that are single zone will be able to be split. Anyways, Great video.

I'm no beginner but I need a kit to get back into playing where sound was an issue last 15 years not touching one. I played about 27 years prior. Ive since moved to guitar and need drums for recording. I'm in a little camper too so room is key. Hahah. Im sure a vst would help sounds. Would you recommend ?

It looks like the mesh heads are about a half inch below the rims.. do you find yourself accidentally hitting the rim often since it’s raised?
@Branyards
@Branyards 3 жыл бұрын
Great observation! I really only find this to be problematic on the snare drum, but there's sort of a built-in fix. To preface, I did have to set the snare a bit lower than I like because of the raised rim (otherwise I'd be hitting the rim a lot), but the rim thankfully has a rimshot sound effect programmed. Because of this, you don't really notice when you're hitting the rim as much if that makes sense, like at least there's a sound playing, rather than the rim triggering nothing, or just getting a really soft snare sound from the head trigger by proxy That explanation was a bit of a mess haha, but hopefully it helps. Cheers!

I use this mainly for recording demos for my band. It's great! Yeah it's a bit small, but for a guitarist learning and tracking simple stuff it's great.
